We recommend Nested as a great resource for soon to be parents. It has been so comforting to learn through this resource - and to have access to the greater network it provides. My husband and I have participated in two courses through Nested and have been so pleased. Of course it is tough to gear up to spend some of the limited hours of your weekend at a child birth class - but for soon-to-be parents it is important and Nested makes it so educational and enjoyable at the same time. We attended both the 1) Childbirth Education Course and 2) Newborn Care and Infant CPR Bootcamp. While the Childbirth Education Course covered a lot of material, it did so efficiently and without overwhelming. I learned enough to then know what more I had to look into afterwards - and via the resource guides provided as part of the course. The Newbord Care course was actually fun. We learned the key skills of CPR and emergency response to a choking infant, but also swaddling, bathing, and diaper changing techniques. The class flew by - and again felt so efficient. The trainers and presenters were so great. Nidhi the founder of the program provided insights from her 13 years as a healthcare provider and mom. Other presenters included nurses and doulas - all of whom were able to share key techniques and bits of wisdom I had not heard or seen elsewhere. What I appreciate most of all is that this will be an ongoing resource - through the materials provided as part of the courses and via the community Nested provides. I can call on the staff at Nested and may of their partners - Doulas of Capitol Hill, the Greater Washington Breastfeeding Center, and the medical professionals at Reiter Hill Johnson and Nevin - who first directed me to Nested. This is exactly the supportive and educational community I need before embarking on this journey. read more

I'm pregnant and while my husband and I knew we needed a childcare class (we had zero baby knowledge), I had no intention of taking a childbirth class. Taking a friend's recommendation, we took the Nested childcare class and it was so fantastic that we immediately signed up for the childbirth class. We loved that the classes were taught by experienced (and entertaining) doctors and we left feeling confident (and well fed). Friends who took classes through different organizations in the area thought they were a little cheesy and dumbed down. Not these classes! No "describe yourself in one word that starts with the same letter as your first name" stuff, and all information was delivered in both layman's terms and proper scientific terminology. The childbirth education class was exactly what we needed. It geared our minds and hearts towards the upcoming event of our first child's birth. It was very comprehensive and gave insights into the process that we otherwise wouldn't have been exposed to. Given the challenging circumstances of the coronavirus, Nidhi and the nested team did a great job transferring their content into a virtual video that we truly enjoyed watching. While it was sad not to have the experience of the class in person, we felt the care and time they had taken to produce quality instruction/information in the video and supplemental resources materials provided. Nested is one of a kind when it comes to childbirth education classes, as much of the fees collected for classes go towards buying/sending medical and dental equipment/services to underserved patients in Ecuador. All instructors are healthcare providers including physicians, physician assistants, and lactation consultants. The classes are very casual and fun, and the material is so comprehensive! They even have a support group/class for parents which is complimentary. They offer childbirth, newborn care and CPR classes, and breastfeeding classes! This is where you want to learn, trust me! We went to the Preconception Class at the Ballston location. This is our first time trying to get pregnancy, and I totally don't know what will happen. There is a lot information covered in the class, anatomy of reproductive system, how egg becomes fertilized, and practical questions like how often and when to try, nutrition, and what to do after you miss your period. You will hear scientific answers to some legendary questions, too. The class was in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Bonus point that they use the money you paid for the class to help women in third world counties. Highly recommend to any first time trying- to-be-parents. read more

Any parent or parent-to-be should attend one of the classes that Nested offers. These classes were so helpful for my husband and I, who before having our first child, were commonly researching a lot online and reading books to prepare for our baby. Nested classes helps to eliminate the extra worry and condenses the information you need into a few easy classes. It's so helpful! The teachers are industry experts and have a wealth of knowledge; they are very easy to talk to for advice and guidance. I attended Nested's Newborn Care and CPR bootcamp a few weeks back with my husband for my new baby that we are expecting in December, and honestly, Nidhi calmed all of my nerves. Sounds so silly, but my biggest concerns were the lack of sleep and how our dog would handle the new baby, and these were two issues that were surprisingly addressed! It was also interesting to meet other soon-to-be parents and talk through our concerns together. I honestly highly recommend Nested for any new patient in the DMV area, and honestly might start seeing Nidhi as my OBGYN as a result of her being such a compassionate and amazing teacher! read more

Our OB recommended taking childbirth education classes with Nested. It was a great opportunity for us to walk through labor and c sections with a cohort of other expecting parents. It was also great for us to do some childbirth education as a couple, as opposed to reading books on our own. I liked that they had a diverse group of staff: a physician's assistant, a doctor, and a doula, so we got a variety of expertise and perspectives. I definitely would recommend this class for folks expecting! Also, since the ACA, childbirth education classes are covered, so take this class and get your insurance to pay for it! read more

We took the Newborn Care and Infant CPR Bootcamp, and we were completely satisfied and then some--Heather and Marti were excellent teachers: patient, comprehensive, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. We left not only having applicable skills like when and how to perform CPR, how to swaddle, and how to change a diaper, but also with information I would not have known to ask about, like what certain common newborn rashes look like, when to worry/to call a doctor, what milestones to look for, and how the actual birth and delivery will play out depending on several variables. My husband and I took two courses through Nested to help prepare for the birth of our first child. We learned vital information about infant CPR and assisting an infant that is choking. I've had to use those techniques and because I had practice at the class it helped me to feel more comfortable in assisting my own child. The stages of labor were helpful as well. They have great teachers who keep things exciting and give such great tips. It was money well spent. My wife and I absolutely loved the recent Newborn Care class! We found them on Instagram, and have a friend that took the class, too. My wife delivers in a few weeks, and we loved how Nidhi gave us the real deal on things like breastfeeding, baby first aid, and what to do if we think our baby is choking. We are completely new to the baby world, and she made us feel like we could ask her just about anything. Also, it was really cool to meet other younger couples who are in the same boat. The small, in-person class is as intimate and the session was tailored specifically to address the questions / concerns of those of us in the room. There was a staff of 4 for 8 total participants, so plenty of interaction and opportunities to ask questions. The Childbirth Bootcamp course was great! We had excellent facilitators in Heather and Angelica, a PA from Reiter Hill Johnson and Nevin. My husband and I learned a ton about the signs of labor, what to expect throughout the childbirth process (including complications that could arise), and early post-partum period. They were able to answer a lot of my specific questions and the whole course made me feel more reassured and knowledgeable heading into the last few weeks of my pregnancy. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, and both classes covered a lot of good information. We did a newborn and infant CPR class with Nidhi. She is a wonderful instructor, very knowledgeable, and willing to answer any question. We went over CPR and baby holds until we were comfortable and practiced different scenarios. Another helpful topic was how to talk to family, especially about things that may have changed from the last generation and can cause some weirdness among family members.
