The owner is one of few who understands excellent customer care and communication. He not only accepts the client's design, but his collaboration and insight to enhance our vision inspired the beautiful detailed bathroom that we have now. With every obstacle that came about, Louie communicated concerns and offered creative solutions to me and my husband. We could not have been more happier with the results and success of the project. DO NOT HIRE New Age Tile / Louie Mejia. I retained this contractor to finish a tub to shower conversion after the plumbing rough in had been completed by another company. He started work without providing the mandatory Certificate of Insurance (COI) required for building safety. His construction completely violated TCNA guidelines and manufacturer specifications--including embedding raw organic 1x4 wood screeds permanently inside the cement mud bed under the shower pan, spot-shimming a rigid composite shower pan (creating dangerous structural voids underneath), and using standard silicone on GoBoard joints which completely voids the manufacturer's warranty and prevents tile adhesion. When held contractually accountable and asked to email the COI PDF before resuming work, he refused, missed multiple deadlines, and attempted to bully his way onto the property by insisting on a face to face meeting. I am a single young woman living alone. To escalate the intimidation, he showed up to my private residence at 8:30 PM with a POLICE ESCORT, claiming I was withholding his property. The 'property' consisted of three scrap 2x4s and four tubes of glue, which I immediately handed to the officer. He is unprofessional, performs defective construction, and uses egregious intimidation tactics against clients when his poor workmanship is identified. A formal demand letter has been issued, Forest Park Police Event Number 2600070606 is on file, and legal action is underway. I am writing this review as a warning to anyone that looking for tiling services. After my wife and I had the experience with New Age Tile I have to strongly advise you to only trust someone who was referred to you by a friend or family. Letting New Age Tile ( Louie Mejia ) in you house and letting him perform work on our bathroom was the worst thing that can happen to you. Not only that he has zero knowledge of tiling, but his attitude and willingness to improve match the lack of skill. In hindsight I have to agree that it was my mistake that I did not kick him out on the first signs. Louis was extremely defensive when asked about every little thing and had the attitude of a disgruntled teenager. I will try to be short in the description of our experience with him as much as possible. Louis came and gave us an estimate for the work ( brand new framed bathroom with new floor, which I personally framed and measured and was as plum as possible ). We accepted his offer, no haggling or counter offers. This included $800 to put the drywall and cement board and $100 to primer. Rest was for pouring a custom shower bed and tiling ( $2400 ) , total of $3300. First he brought the drywall person. The guy came, unprepared, looked at it and said he needs a helper and he was going to wait for Louis. 2 hours later he left. Louis said someone else would come. The 2 guys that came next day did the job, but came completely unprepared, I had to provide for them paper to cover the floor. They took masks that I had in the living room without my permission and later I realized that they used and extension cord I had in my garage and took it with them. When brought that up to Louis he was visibly upset that I would even bring something like that up ( like it's normal that people he brings into our house would steal ). He then started the bathroom, which is where I will put these notes: Would come in about 11am-12pm and work for about 4 hours. Would delay or cancel appointments last minute Zero respect to our house, leaving dust and debris, leaving concrete mixer on the hardwood floor Leaving behind scratches to our walls, floor and debris in the front, stairs and around the front door. We had many concerns about the way he poured the shower pan, but after some conversations with him I decided to trust him and let him work ( big mistake ! ) After 2 days of tiling I went to take a look in the evening and I noticed huge lip on some of the tiles. I already new that Louis is very defensive and cannot take criticism, so I made sure I do my homework. I read the Tile Council of North America guides and regulations, I watched videos and inspected everything. Louis' work was out of regulation 2-3 times. Next day we brought it up to him and my wife ask him if he can make the tiles where there is no lip. Immediately he starting coming up with bs, saying how this is standard and this was OK. After some conversation he flipped and started saying how he made it crappy because we were on a budget ( something he came up with, we never argued the price or said we had a set budget.. ) In the end we told him that if that's the best he can do, he just needs to go. On his way out he removed the worst pieces ( hoping to remove the evidence ) We got a new tiler who almost had a heart attack when he saw the work of Louis, he said there is no way a tile installer did the job. He had to remove about 30-40% of the tiles and work around Louis's crappy work. He revealed to us about 15-20 issues that we never noticed, including the fact that Louis managed to created a huge curve at the bottom of the shower wall. It turned out he was too lazy to properly fold the shower lining under the concrete and stuffed it under the cement board, thus creating a protrusion behind it. I can pretty much go all day long about the lack of skill or the sloppiness of New Age Tile, but there is no point. We are still considering suing Louis about the crappy work he did, the damage to our bathroom and house and the time he has wasted us. Honestly I think we are just glad this person is out of our house. Louis has obvious issues with his temper and he was making both of us quite uneasy at times. In addition he kept making weird comments about us being dishonest and trying to trick him somehow, later on he even send an email that hinted towards resolving our dispute in a man-to-man manner. I was beyond satisfied with the quality of work and the timely matter in which New Age Tile remodeled my bathroom. The cost was within my budget and the owner took the time to answer my questions and was extremely professional. I would highly recommend him to anyone of my family members and friends. Luis is unstable. After he got his deposit for 30% he used every opportunity to increase the cost. There was some tile around the bar that needed to be demolished and once he started demoing he stopped to increase price because "there is sound deadening underneath" and he didn't have the right tools. He also stated there might be damage to our custom Irish bar. We were not comfortable with potential damages to our property. At that point he breached his quoted pricing and we decided to demo by ourselves. He got aggressive and frankly we felt uncomfortable with him working so we asked him to stop and wanted him to refund the difference. When he learned this he treated us poorly, blamed us and yelled. He took videos in our house without our permission. He them picked up his tools and left and wanted us to sign agreement in order for him to come back. Now we are out of luck on our 30% (~$3000.00) we asked him to pro rate and refund us the difference. So as of now we are waiting on him to settle with us. If we don't hear from him we will be forced to go to small claims court to plead our case. Avoid him if you want peaceful life. read more

Been meaning to sit down and do this review since I was so satisfied with the work they did for me but the holidays got in the way as well as my hectic schedule which made it impossible until now to take a moment to complete. So basically I hired New Age Tile back in November of 2018 to remodel my kitchen in my new Lincoln Park home. I needed to get the kitchen done since we were going to host the family in December and my wife as well as her whole family loves to cook. As you can see it was urgent that I find someone. My friend David from work recommended New Age Tile when he overheard me complaining about the struggle I was having finding someone. David had used New Age Tile to do some cosmetic changes to his kitchen and remodel a bathroom a year before. Therefore, I decided to give New Age Tile a call. The owner was very accommodating in setting up the appointment given my busy schedule. He quickly sent me the quote which my wife and I really liked. New Age Tile was efficient in completing the remodeling of my kitchen within the time stipulated in the contract and the quality of the work was outstanding. Louie(owner) took the time to answer the questions my wife and I had during the course of the project. We felt very comfortable having him in our home. My wife loves her new kitchen thanks to New Age Tile! I would highly recommend New Age Tile to my family and friends. I have a couple other projects I need to get done and I will be calling Louie again since my first experience with him and his company met all my expectations. read more
