Their Shahi Chicken Jeera Massala is fabulous. The premises are decorated in the 'curry house style' without being kitschy and the Indian muzak played is not too loud - actually I've become quite fond of it! Thanks to the division of the place into three separate areas it is possible to accommodate couples as well as larger parties without the one disturbing the other. The customer service is second to none (hot towels and complimentary chocolates) and the staff are very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It does however get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, so there may well be quite a wait in between courses. On these nights I recommend visiting after 8.30pm. The menu offers a great selection of traditional dishes for both starters and main courses, as well as a selection of specials - I can heartily recommend the tandoori mixed grill (served with a naan bead), the garlic lamb and the chicken chana. The vegetable side dishes, rices and breads are all of exceptional quality. Everything is served in very generous portions. Don't leave room for dessert, it's not worth it. There is bottled and draught beer available as well as wine and softdrinks. The full menu is available to take away for which there is a 10% discount and only a half hour wait from order to collection.

Service. They are busy. Very busy. It's hard to get anyone's attention. When we did, the young women was in a constant rush and a little rude. As an example - I placed our food order and also asked for chai. She abruptly said "no too busy go somewhere else for that." Later, I saw other people order and get chai after their meal at the table next to us. There was another guy running back and forth. I must have asked for water 4 or 5 times before he finally just dropped a bottle off on the table while running by with no glasses. Getting the check was an ordeal. So finally I just walked up to the counter and asked for it at the take away register and the same rude women said "just pay here". I gave her my Amex and it wasn't going thru she just kept saying "decline". She did it two or 3 times. Then I said "do you take Amex". She says "no only visa MasterCard." I don't expect white glove service at spots like this, just don't be rude. Maybe say I'm sorry we are too busy tonight. Anyway. The food. That saved the day. Seekh kabob 5/5 Afghan Naan 5/5 Chicken tikka 4/5 Saag paneer 3/5 Nihari 2/5 Chutneys - 2/5 I normally take an average and round up. They get a 3.5 on the food only. I'm rounding down this time because of the service.

The server was a great help in guiding us through and helping us to order a good sample of items. The food was brought out a good pace. We had ti.e to eat each course and never felt overwhelmed. In a related and very lovely gesture, the server brought me a complimentary mutton roll (with chilli ketchup) and said they usually send something on the house for solo diners :) The roll was delicious -- savoury mutton without a strong game-y flavour that went really nicely with the mildly spicy ketchup. I decided to have an order of the Lankan chicken kari paired with a hopper. I did not know what a hopper was before then (let alone seen one), so it was an interesting surprise when I was served this unevenly thick, bowl-shaped rice pancake. Fortunately, I did not go wrong with this choice, as the hopper was so delicious. The light rice-based flavour of the hopper paired so nicely with the rich, slightly spicy curry and the tender and savoury chicken, and I really liked the textural variety of the hopper itself (thicker, spongier base and thinner, crispier sides). The ratio of hopper to curry was not quite right, though, so I ended up ordering another roti to enjoy the remaining half of my curry and chicken. The roti was really delicious -- fluffy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside -- and similarly paired super well in carrying the curry flavour. All in all, price point was pretty solid for the quality and amount of food. I thought the hopper was pricier than expected, but conversely the curry was less so -- so overall it all seemed quite reasonable. I would love the chance to come visit again and try more of their deliciously fragrant curry options next time.
