Better than expected! Since London is overpopulated with ethnic food you never really know what your getting yourself into. Until the first few bites of course! The meat is laid out in a glass display for you to see. You can also watch the chef grill it up as the kitchen is on the side of the tables. Disclaimer: THE REVIEW BELOW WILL BE BASED ON CHICKEN ALONE. Afghani Plate:: The chicken in this plate was my absolute favorite! And I tried ALL the chicken this restaurant has to offer! I found it most flavorful in this dish. Rice, Afghan Plate:: Really delicious traditional afghan rice. Soft, mildly flavored and simply yummy! Butter Chicken:: Reminded me much of a dish my uncle makes called KuKuPaca (coconut chicken), this is the most unique tasting butter chicken I've ever had but it's ok, 3 out of 5 stars, nothing too special about it however it had some kind of otherworldly appeal to my niece, this is her favorite dish! Lahore Plate:: All the meats in this platter are brought out steaming! This dish is definitely not Afghani. It's Indian/Pakistani. Spicer side but not too hot. Chicken Pieces, Lahore Plate:: Mid size chunks of chicken, tasted good in the plate over-all. Chicken Kabob, Lahore Plate:: To my surprise, this was my FAVORITE Chicken in the plate! Soft and supple, well marinated, the meat took on the flavors easily. Tandoor Chicken, Lahore Plate:: Medium-well done cooked, just the way I like it. The skin, well seasoned. Not my favorite though. Tasted like the usual Tandoodi chicken. We arrived at this joint in perfect timing however when we were leaving the line to get in was OUT OF THE DOOR! It's THAT popular! I would have the Afghan plate again! PS. I find it a tad bit disturbing that they ONLY serve tea by the pot and not the cup. However from an economical stand point I suppose for a business it makes sense.

Tasty daily thali and OMG the methi thepla plate that is so satisfying. Candidly, you can get better vada pau and pav bhaji at the nearby location of Sri Krishna Vada Pau. Pau is the small square loaf of bread so well known in Mumbai and likely getting its name from Portuguese, reflecting Mumbai's Portuguese heritage. Only food establishments with an authentic Mumbaikar pedigree seem to get the Vada Pau and Pau Bhaji right. However, Thakers is a great find and in close proximity to a Sakoni (perhaps the longest chaat serving restaurant in London going back to its original Wembly location) and a few other great Indian restaurants. Besides Hounslow is easier to get to being on the Picadilly line just before Heathrow. I always wanted to try East African influenced Gujarati food and this satisfied my craving until, one of these days, I make my food pilgrimage to Mombasa and Nairobi.

Service was attentive, ambience was elevated yet casual and the prices and portions are very fair. I had the Char Kuey Tiew noodle dish (that we call Drunken Noodles in the states) and it was delicious! The noodles were cooked to a perfect chewy texture, the sauce had a really nice medium spice level and the sweet sausage gave a great complexity. Looking forward to trying more things on their extensive menu.

Come hungry as food portions are on the larger side of life, however, if you're ordering sushi, it's quality over quantity. The menu consists of reasonable prices, and covers a few options; Sushi, Ramen, and Rice dishes. You can find vegetarian options, and the staff are very good about you having food allergies or intolerances - so just let them know upon ordering. I love the raw juices and the sake/fruit on the drinks menu. There's a decent selection of wines, so if you're not up for drinking in a pub, it's perfectly acceptable to grab a bottle and share here. My husband ordered the Tori Katsu curry (R4) for mains, the rainbow roll (M14) to share for starters, and I had a salmon box (V3) and sake sashimi (H18). In hindsight, I could have left the sashimi as I was actually rather full from the other two dishes. I highly recommend you pop in if you haven't already, delicious food!!!
