Hubby and I did a road trip -- to central Illinois and back -- in one day! It was the end of a long day of sitting in the car. We stopped at the Michigan Welcome Center in New Buffalo, MI. It is just upstream of exit 1 on eastbound I-94. Yes, your read that right -- exit ONE. This is a very, very nice and clean rest stop. It's a "welcome center," so there are maps and brochures for things to do in the state of Michigan. The bathrooms were clean. There is not only a dog run, there is also a jungle gym for the kiddies. The planter boxes were well maintained. The flowers were just starting to bloom, so the place looked especially nice on this day. After washing up and walking around for a while, we were able to continue on our journey.

Pretty active rest area on Exit #1 near New Buffalo Mich. Walk your dog, stretch your legs, drop a deuce...you get the idea.

Perfect location on the 94 as you enter Michigan. Great place to stop, look around, stretch your legs and learn about this State.

If you are looking for a dog park with a lot of land, water available (minus the winter months),…read moreand fenced in, this dog park is highly recommended. An important note is that there are two parks here. There is a small dog park and the large one. The rest of this review is for the big dog park: There is a two tier fencing system, where you can open one gate, take your dog in, take the leash off, and then let them run into the park. There are also poop bags in this area, and it is expected that you pick up after your dog. It has two major parts, one being flat and where most people will hang out. There are benches for people to sit and hose water for the dogs. On the other side, there is a small hill with trees in which squirrels live, so some dogs like to chase them from tree to tree. There are also chairs throughout, so you don't have to be by people unless you want to. Due to the large size, it may take some time to get to your dog if you need to so keep that in mind and stay close to your dog if you are worried they could get into trouble. Overall, I highly recommend this dog park to anyone with energetic dogs that like to run!

We ALWAYS make a stop at this park, i can't believe it's free. So much room for the pups to play and my dog's favorite part is the pools. There is also a good amount of trees so you can usually find some shade if it's hot. I highly recommend

I'm not sure who runs the park, but I do notice a few people who take care of it and keep it running for us. Overall, its a great place for my dog to socialize. What's going on with Puptown lately? When I started coming here a couple of years ago, it was full…read moreof dogs and really attentive owners. Recently, it's maintained the amount of dogs, but the attentiveness of the owners has seriously decreased. I have left multiple times because I felt that dogs were being aggressive and their owners were either not paying attention, or were not picking up on the signs of their dogs' aggression. I have a fairly large dog (56 lbs), so I'm not just freaking out whenever any dog approaches my tiny pup. My dog is pretty submissive, and not at all aggressive, so it's really unfortunate that we're forced to leave because irresponsible owners let their dogs bully her. This is, obviously, not all owners. Let's get Puptown back on track people! If you're dog STARTS behaving aggressively, pull them away to settle down. It can't be good for you, your dog, the dog that gets hurt, or the hurt dog's owner if something goes down. You can't go to a dog park, sit down, and expect other people to regulate the situation. I'm not getting in the middle of a dog fight between two dogs who, although half my size, could tear me to shreds if they wanted to. That's why EVERYONE needs to pay attention to their dog.
