We called before we went to see the prices per person, they told us it was $16.99 per person and when we got our bill it was about 20$ per person. I think the reviews on new China are disgustingly outdated. The past few years new China has really stepped up their game and are very clean every time I go even with it being a buffet. Also the food is always fresh and warm unlike most buffet I go to where they're foods burnt on the bottom and have a weird films on top. Also in regards to the service, they're not amazing at English but the waiters and waitresses speak clearly and fluently enough for you to understand them easily enough and they're always so sweet. The only downside is how expensive they've become for the buffet coming at around $20 a person but I understand because of how hard they were hit during Covid. read more

I enjoy Asian food, and buffets. The variety and options appeal to me. My visit for the lunch buffet provided a mixed bag of impressions. Neat and clean, with a pleasant ambiance of cultural connections. Both the hot and sour soup, and the egg drop soup, were very good. Beef was consistently dry and slightly tough, across the board, in all varieties. Chicken was good, tender and tasty, except for the General Tso's chicken, which was also dry and tough, and tasted nothing at all like the traditional dish found elsewhere. Seafood was a mixed bag, some being quite tasty, others tasteless. Lo mien was excellent. Limited available greens were very good. Egg rolls were okay, spring rolls were substandard. Price was fair. buffet servers adequate for their purpose. I departed full, but disappointed. I expected a higher overall level of quality of the food. I suppose I've been spoiled by better Asian buffet restaurants elsewhere. read more

Just ordered like 6 meals, 3 being general tso's and they all 3 were so overcooked my wife chipped a tooth on her chicken. I have been going to New china for decades always loved it but this is ridiculous. Tried to call and talk to them but they just argued or didn't understand.. Ok, I from out of town and I eat this type and cook this type of food. The fare is varied and tasty. This is a clean buffet. My family has been nourished here for many years. I have been treated to lunch here numerous times. We enjoy the set up of the buffet. The diversity is the perfect balance for the Kentucky taste. The diversity is for this area. Just know you will leave full and happy. This place is packed every time I have visited. That has been a plus, fresh and vibrant trays of creative dishes. The downside is large. The people skills are horrible. The feel is one of extreme stress. I leave every time feeling so sorry for these people. We went into this restaurant knowing that from the reviews it was going to be hit or miss. We went at noon on a Saturday. Really big selection of food, something for everyone. Food was delicious. No one we went with found anything they didn't like. Big selection of desserts and sushi. Only reason I took one star away was it could of been cleaner. Little dusting goes a long way. Even after hearing about their "C" health department rating, I will still probably eat at New China. I absolutely love Chinese buffets & I believe Owensboro could do with a few more. They do have a lot of non-Chinese foods on their buffet, but I believe these are great when taking younger or picky children out to eat with you. I love their General Tso's chicken & their noodles. I have had a few experiences when coming in later at night or when they're not very busy that the food has not been very fresh. I don't believe these reasons are excuses for this though, maybe they should start putting smaller trays of fresher food on their buffets instead of letting full pans just sit & sit. As far as service goes, I believe it has gotten a little better. In the past, I always felt rushed as I have had waitresses come to my table & literally say, " You pay now." I don't like being interrupted as I'm still eating my dinner & have to stop to pull out my wallet. But, this hasn't happened in a while. Even with the few mishaps, I love their food when it is fresh and will continue to eat here, even though I must say I don't come quite as often as I used to. But, you can't beat the prices for all you can eat. read more

The soup was good and the fried chicken was delicious (yeah they have an American food cloning section). They also have great-tasting ice cream, and the fortune cookies taste fine. This is a giant chinesee buffet. they have crab legs, sushi, and every type of chicken & beef you can think of. They even have some sweet rolls and other desserts if you still have room. I work nearby and this is a pretty good pick for lunch. You can walk in, grab your food, and skate out really quick. Perfect for a quick break from work. If you get buffet on Saturday it's 8.95 but if you don't notice the sign above the crab legs you think that's what you pay if you do happen to notice it it hikes the price up to 19.99. Seemingly a fair amount of choices, but it is nothing more than a poor skinny chicken sliced and sauced different ways. New China used to be my favorite Owensboro restaurant. I have eaten there hundreds of times. I crave their food. I defended them for years as they went down hill. But I'm out too. I usually don't do buffet, but order 4 or 5 entrees to go off the menu. The last 3 times, there were objects in my dishes that were not food... pieces of plastic, pieces of cloth. The final straw for me? The last time I went, i felt seriously drugged and had nystagmus. It was crazy scary. I got into bed closed my eyes and passed out. I have been a fan of New China since their opening weekend. They were my favorite Chinese buffet hands down for years. New China was the Chinese buffet I would take friends visiting from Florida to because I know Florida has some pretty amazing large Chinese buffets in just about every city. The quality of new China has steadily been going down as other Chinese buffets in town closed down. The quality issues got so bad I stopped going at dinner time because adding frozen fried shrimp and chicken on a stick didn't change the buffet enough to justify the increase in price. So I started sticking with the lunch buffet. The price on the lunch buffet has been steadily increasing while the quality and variety of food has been steadily decreasing. The lunch buffet is now how many ways can we serve chicken. The sushi is how many ways can we serve imitation crab. Literally only the cheapest ingredients. The green pepper steak is a pan of 98% onions 1% bell pepper and 1% meat that looks suspiciously like chicken soaked in beef broth until it's darker. I have rationalized this decline for years because of rising food costs. Well I went to Chinese buffet in Evansville a few times in the past months and guess what? Variety! Beef served in multiple ways. Pork chicken shrimp that's not frozen breaded. Sushi using more ingredients than imitation crab cucumber and carrot. The absolute kicker? Every single one of these buffets had an A rating, friendly staff, and was cheaper than New China! Owensboro is in desperate need of a new Chinese buffet.
