Not too bad! The Alaskan roll is just as expected and totally up to par. The actual Wasabi was sinus clearing and gave me a few moments to reflect on my choices after eating it (which I like), and the ginger was the natural colored non-pink variety that I like. They provide a massive bottle of cold yum yum sauce that want to douse all my food in and I am tempted to have double as a beverage. Self control. Will power saved the day and prevented me from doing so. The service was great with my server coming by to check in often and to top off my water and grabbing me some condiments as I needed. My fried rice came out after I devoured my Alaska Rolls and was piping hot and pretty well made. It wasn't greasy and it had that light crispiness to the rice that you get when you cook a fried rice properly. It wasn't my favorite fried rice of all time, but it wasn't bad. It seems a very side dish type of fried rice but a dang fine one at that. But to be fair you come to Wasabi express for the rolls and hibachi which is where this place shines. Fiev stars! You don't go to a restaurant specializing in burgers, order fish, then complain about the food. Next time, I'll get the hibachi and see this place really blow me away. The ambience is pretty chill. It was pretty busy, and guests were enjoying their conversations, company, and food. The music selection was pretty cool and caught my attention and bobbed my head a few times. They have tv's playing sports, a nice looking bar, and a sushi chef station where I assume you'd be welcome to watch the sushi chefs do their magic if you're curious and entertained by that kind of thing. This is my favorite sushi place that I have ever been to. The food is solid and the prices are unbeatable. Every time we come to Owensboro we plan our trip around coming to Wasabi. I spent the entire car ride going through their menu and deciding what all rolls I wanted. My fiancé was working so I came in by myself with the idea of ordering a ton of rolls and I would take half of them to-go to share with him. I ordered seven different rolls. I burst out laughing when the very sweet waitress showed up at the table with a literal boat full of sushi for what seemed to be just me. No shame, I worked through it, left very full, and brought a wonderful assortment of rolls back to my fiancé when he got off work. I love this place so much. The server did not write or the chef did not read correctly my order for CHIRASHI. After the appetizer (which arrived cold), she brought us both hibachi chicken. That's not what I ordered, so I sent it back and repeated my order. 35 minutes later, when my dinner companion had finished his meal, mine finally arrived. By then I had lost my appetite. If any meal ever should have been comped, that was it. She told us the manager had removed the incorrect item from our ticket, as if this were some favor she was doing for us. We dined for lunch on a Saturday at Wasabi Express. The dining room was quite full at 1:30. Our hostess was very pleasant and sweet, and seated us in a corner table by the front window. ( Note: this table would be good for anybody in a wheelchair, as it was spacious and open on 2 sides.) For a casual dining restaurant, the atmosphere felt quite upscale, with big crystal chandeliers and sparkling lights. There is a full bar in the back. Our server, a nice young gentleman, had a bit of trouble understanding our order. To his credit, it was only his second day on the job. We ordered the filet hibachi, the chicken hibachi and a roll from the extensive sushi menu. The portions are huge!! Definitely enough to take home for leftovers. The steak was tender and seasoned nicely. All in all, good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wasabi Express. read more

They prioritized being on the phone instead of helping a single customer. The restaurant was loud due to the space and music. My husband was happy enough with the sushi dishes that he'd ordered. My hibachi meal, however, was a different story. First of all, this is weird because Wasabi has always been our favorite restaurant in Owensboro. Last night, kids were craving sushi. We arrived after 8 pm, so I'm not sure if that has to do with the service that we received. But when we entered, the hostess seemed nice and seated us promptly. Here'a where it got weird. We kept sitting...and sitting....and sitting. Servers kept com by quickly but totally avoiding eye contact or acknowledgment. I would look at hostess who was wiping off menus. She'd just smile-- even though we were obviously being ignored. After about 15-20 minutes without any acknowledgement or drinks, we left. She just smiled and said, "Have a good night." I've been coming to Wasabi Express for several years and the food has always been consistently good! The portion sizes are huge for what you pay and that's what keeps me coming back. This time around, I ordered the steak hibachi plate which comes with steak, teriyaki noodles, fried rice, veggies, soup, and salad and comes to under $15. Considering how much food is on the plate, I always have leftovers for one or two extra meals. My friends got sushi rolls and they really enjoyed them. Their sushi is solid and I've never had any complaints with the sushi. It's 50% off for dine-in sushi orders. I personally haven't had any bad experiences with the servers or staff, but I understand that other people may. We came here while our truck was getting serviced at Champion Ford. Cool little place in a shopping plaza. We were seated right away and helped right away. Our waiter Juan was very polite and attentive. I ordered the hibachi chicken and filet mignon with veggies and fried rice. A soup also came with my meal. First off Owensboro's food scene is pretty poor. So, you need to take everyone's glowing reviews with a grain if salt. The restaurant is hibachi and sushi. First for the positives. The sushi is OK. Not great but not horrible. Stick with the nigiri or the simple rolls. They have elaborate rolls that are mostly just weird. Maybe its a local thing but definitely not authentic Japanese. I found that the sushi chefs at wasabi 54 in town were much better however. The hibachi is probably the worst I've ever had. Meat is dry, over cooked, and under seasoned. The majority of the ridiculously huge portion is bland noodles and poorly prepared fried rice. Most people's reviews complement the huge portions and cheap prices. I guess you pay for the quality that you get. I'd prefer smaller portions with better quality ingredients. read more

This place would've received 5 stars had it not been for the incredibly rude hostesses and hosts standing by the door. Finally we were seated reluctantly. When we got to our table, thankfully everything changed. The waitress, Stephanie, was amazing! She was so friendly and kind! For the price, this is probably the best sushi in Owensboro. I know that is saying a lot. That statement doesn't take into account the new Lure seafood place downtown as I haven't tried it yet. The restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall, in front a Walmart, in the same location that a Subway used to be. The owners have used creative methods to make the place look upscale. If you look hard though, you see the booths are made from 2X6s and covered with faux leather and ceramic floor tile for the table tops. It's a much better look than some of the other Asian places in town (ie Tokyo). The staff at Wasabi Express are always friendly and fast. They check on you often but not intrusive. I've never had a bad service experience here. They will always accommodate special orders when they can. They are known for their "Half Price Sushi All Day" which to me is a little gimmicky and annoying. I get that you're showing it a deal, but I just get frustrated that I have to do simple math to get the price of the roll. The sushi prices are good though, rolls from $4ish to $12.95, or $2ish to $6.475. They also have a lunch menu with some nice deals, $4.99 for a large plate of fried rice is nice to share. Overall, this place is great to get a good deal on some sushi and not feel like you'd get food poisoning from it. I've never ate a roll that didn't taste fresh or fishy. Wasabi has very good Hibachi chicken teriyaki. I ordered the noodles instead of rice and they were amazing! The vegetables were fairly good. Yum yum was just plain old delicious yum yum sauce. The crab Rangoon was crispy on the outside and perfectly crabby and creamed cheese on the inside. It was plated nicely. Clean and orderly setting. Quick service and food delivery hit upon arrival. Genuinely great service from hostess to servers. I'll be back without a doubt. The portion was large and I took half of it home for lunch the next day. I went here on the recommendation of the reviews here on Yelp. The sushi was great, even though it did take a while. I had the San Francisco roll, which is basically a California Roll with shrimp on the top. I was impressed with the roll, which, unfortunately, was the last good thing about my meal. My sushi had barely been delivered when my hibachi meal arrived. When I asked the waiter about the salad that was supposed to come with the meal, I got a response of, "I forgot that and the soup...sorry". The hibachi meal itself was uninspiring. The noodles were greasy, and the vegetables has been overcooked to death. By far the worse part was the shrimp still had the black line going down the back. How hard is it to clean shrimp?!?! The plate itself was swimming in sauce that was pretty sweet and gross. Needless to say, I left over half of it. My waiter then brought me salad in a to go container to make up for what he forgot. The lettuce was wilted and brown and obviously came from a salad bag. When I received the bill, the waiter "forgot" to take the 50% off for the sushi.
