Assorted sushi in a boat platter
    Claudia E.

This is my favorite sushi place that I have ever been to. The food is solid and the prices are unbeatable. Every time we come to Owensboro we plan our trip around coming to Wasabi. I spent the entire car ride going through their menu and deciding what all rolls I wanted. My fiancé was working so I came in by myself with the idea of ordering a ton of rolls and I would take half of them to-go to share with him. I ordered seven different rolls. I burst out laughing when the very sweet waitress showed up at the table with a literal boat full of sushi for what seemed to be just me. No shame, I worked through it, left very full, and brought a wonderful assortment of rolls back to my fiancé when he got off work. I love this place so much. I am so excited to come back and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

    Alaska Roll

Not too bad! The Alaskan roll is just as expected and totally up to par. The actual Wasabi was sinus clearing and gave me a few moments to reflect on my choices after eating it (which I like), and the ginger was the natural colored non-pink variety that I like. They provide a massive bottle of cold yum yum sauce that want to douse all my food in and I am tempted to have double as a beverage. Self control. Will power saved the day and prevented me from doing so. The service was great with my server coming by to check in often and to top off my water and grabbing me some condiments as I needed. My fried rice came out after I devoured my Alaska Rolls and was piping hot and pretty well made. It wasn't greasy and it had that light crispiness to the rice that you get when you cook a fried rice properly. It wasn't my favorite fried rice of all time, but it wasn't bad. It seems a very side dish type of fried rice but a dang fine one at that. But to be fair you come to Wasabi express for the rolls and hibachi which is where this place shines. Fiev stars! You don't go to a restaurant specializing in burgers, order fish, then complain about the food. Next time, I'll get the hibachi and see this place really blow me away. The ambience is pretty chill. It was pretty busy, and guests were enjoying their conversations, company, and food. The music selection was pretty cool and caught my attention and bobbed my head a few times. They have tv's playing sports, a nice looking bar, and a sushi chef station where I assume you'd be welcome to watch the sushi chefs do their magic if you're curious and entertained by that kind of thing. Overall, a cool place to eat in Owensboro and I will be back! I'm happy this place is here adding to the culinary diversity of South Owensboro! Woohoo!

We dined for lunch on a Saturday at Wasabi Express. The dining room was quite full at 1:30. Our hostess was very pleasant and sweet, and seated us in a corner table by the front window. ( Note: this table would be good for anybody in a wheelchair, as it was spacious and open on 2 sides.) For a casual dining restaurant, the atmosphere felt quite upscale, with big crystal chandeliers and sparkling lights. There is a full bar in the back. Our server, a nice young gentleman, had a bit of trouble understanding our order. To his credit, it was only his second day on the job. We ordered the filet hibachi, the chicken hibachi and a roll from the extensive sushi menu. The portions are huge!! Definitely enough to take home for leftovers. The steak was tender and seasoned nicely. All in all, good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wasabi Express.

I could literally eat the Super Mario roll every day! I'm in sunny, warm Florida, and the first place I'll stop, when I get back home, is Wasabi Express for a house salad and my favorite sushi roll Service is always great, and everything I've tried is delicious. Another fave is the hibachi mushroom steak!

Evansville roll or the owenaboro I can't remember!

I was treated like a queen! Food was fast and fresh s. My special order tuna maki roll was perfect! The fried rice was delicious and had flavor (I usually have to douse it with soy and sriracha). We got the steak and chicken hibachi plate. Flavors were for real and perfection. I would request less onion and more other veggies next time as there were 2x onion to anything else. But, nice good hibachi!

Wasabi was great! I went with some friends and we all ordered different things that everyone seemed to enjoy. I got two different sushi rolls, spicy salmon and the rainbow roll, that were fresh and has great flavor. It also doesn't hurt that the prices are so low for the quality and quantity you get. I also loved that they just give you a bottle of yum yum sauce because that stuff is good lol The service was also very fast and the restaurant overall was very nice and cleanly.

I've been coming to Wasabi Express for several years and the food has always been consistently good! The portion sizes are huge for what you pay and that's what keeps me coming back. This time around, I ordered the steak hibachi plate which comes with steak, teriyaki noodles, fried rice, veggies, soup, and salad and comes to under $15. Considering how much food is on the plate, I always have leftovers for one or two extra meals. My friends got sushi rolls and they really enjoyed them. Their sushi is solid and I've never had any complaints with the sushi. It's 50% off for dine-in sushi orders. I personally haven't had any bad experiences with the servers or staff, but I understand that other people may. Overall, if you're looking for a good Japanese food (with heavy American influence), I recommend Wasabi Express!

This is what I got vs what I ordered. Pretty consistently mediocre. I'm local, definitely not my favorite Japanese place in the Big O

Great service and food. My wife and I always get the hibachi meals, with some appetizers...dumpling & half price sushi.

Old Hickory BBQ in Owensboro, Kentucky, delivers exactly what its reputation promises--and then…read moresome. I'd heard more than once, from both my girlfriend and coworkers, that Owensboro is a barbecue town through and through, so when she pointed me toward Old Hickory, expectations were high. Walking in, I was immediately charmed. The space feels like a cozy old cottage infused with unmistakable local pride. Awards and accolades from magazines and even the Food Network line the walls, setting the stage for something special before you ever open the menu. One of the most endearing details, though, is how deeply rooted this place is in the community. The tabletops themselves double as a kind of hometown directory, showcasing local Owensboro businesses. It's a thoughtful, almost nostalgic touch that reinforces the sense that Old Hickory isn't just in Owensboro--it belongs to it. To fully experience what they do best, I ordered the combination platter, a barbecue lover's dream designed for indecision. My lineup included brisket, baby back ribs, and a quarter of white-meat BBQ chicken, with baked beans and mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. The platter arrived surprisingly fast, and the portion size was nothing short of impressive--this is serious, no-nonsense barbecue. The brisket was a standout: fork-tender with generous pieces of that deeply flavorful, smoky bark that true BBQ fans crave. The baby back ribs struck the perfect balance--tender but still offering a satisfying bite off the bone, never mushy or overdone. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, cooked just right overall, with only a couple slightly drier bites near the edge of the breast--hardly enough to detract from an otherwise excellent showing. The mashed potatoes and gravy were rich, comforting, and clearly made with care. The baked beans leaned more vinegary than I personally prefer, but they were still good enough that I cleaned the plate without hesitation--a testament to their overall quality. I couldn't help overhearing a nearby table raving about the mac and cheese, and honestly, that might be my biggest regret of the visit. An elderly woman at the table--easily in her 80s--declared, "This mac and cheese kicks ass!" I laughed, briefly considered ordering my own, then accepted defeat--I was already completely full. One small surprise was the classic slices of white and wheat bread served alongside the platter. When I asked about it, the waitress explained that many customers use it to build their own BBQ sandwiches. While I would've loved a square of cornbread instead, the tradition makes sense--and fits the no-frills authenticity of the place. I tried their original vinegar-based sauce, which was tangy, bright, and perfectly suited to the meats. I do wish I'd had the chance to sample their other sauces, but that just gives me an excuse to return. Could I nitpick and mention the limited napkins? Sure--but at a place this good, I ended up licking my fingers clean anyway. Old Hickory BBQ isn't just a meal; it's an Owensboro experience--hearty, genuine, and absolutely delicious.

Owensboro has been vaguely on my radar for years due to the local specialty of mutton BBQ, and I…read morelove unusual meats. Unfortunately, I found the food, especially given reputation, to be disappointing. I'll start with the positives: one of the mutton ribs was absolutely sublime, with the fat suffused through the meat and a great flavor. The other mutton rib was somehow much drier. The sliced mutton was also okay, particularly with the black vinegar sauce. I was not a fan of the chopped mutton or burgoo, both of which has no discernable clear flavor and were closer to slop. Chopped mutton is kind of liked chopped liver but grainier and less tasty. Pickles, fries, bread, etc were all just commerical. I'd consider going back for a sliced mutton sandwich if in the area, but even as a mutton enthusiast I wouldn't make a special journey.
