If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault!! This restaurant is about 45 miles (approx. 50 min) away from my hometown, and my family visits quite a bit!! In fact, many times the trip is made specifically to eat at Wasabi 54 and go back home... They have such an extensive menu, full of endless sushi and hibachi options, as well as other dishes to choose from. The chicken teriyaki hibachi dish is my personal favorite, and it is more food than I can ever finish! It comes with a small salad and bowl of soup, noodles, rice, vegetables, and pieces of teriyaki chicken. I always leave with left overs to take with me to enjoy the next day. The restaurant is very clean and the staff members are always welcoming and friendly. The booths are so spacious which makes for a very comfortable seating situation. om. We got there and it wasn't even ready. This is the 2nd time this has happened. We were told there had to be 15 people there or we would be charged for the room. We had exactly 15 but because one was a baby they said we had to pay. There was 14 meals ordered to eat there and 1 more to take home. So they had 15 meals. On top of all this several orders were messed up and appetizers not brought out. So, when they tried to charge for the room we brought all this to their attention. They got the manager and she came and argued to no end and making rude comments. Very unprofessional! I frequent Wasabi 54 but this will be my last time ever stepping through their doors. My friend and I popped in for an early dinner on a Wednesday evening. The parking lot was already quite full. Always impressed by the decor in here, with the wavy ocean ceilings. We had a female server with a young man who was training. They were both very sweet, and attentive to us. I had to take away one star, however. I asked if they had and hot sauce, and was told it was 50 cents per cup. Why not just have a bottle on the table, and let customers enjoy? A small medicine cup of sirracha and a 50 cent up charge????? Never experienced that before. My steak hibachi was a bit tough, but tasty. My friend got the hibachi salmon.... I went here for a work lunch and had a great time. Service was quick and friendly. There was a half off pricing special on the menu which I appreciated. I got a cucumber roll, a spider roll, and a Sonny #1. Great portion sizes as I was full for a while. And they were all great. They put wasabi on the plates but not ginger which I thought was interesting. The bathrooms are kind of awkwardly placed but honestly the layout is cool. Overall I recommend. Great spot! read more

I usually use a lot of yum yum sauce but the sauce on the hibachi chicken teriyaki, fried rice and vegetables you don't need yum yum sauce, it is different than any I have ever had. I usually don't leave a bad review because I realize all humans have a bad day. This was the 2nd time eating there and having a waiter named August wait on me and my friend. The first time he was bad about giving refills. When we would ask he acted like he had better things to do. Then yesterday I ate there again with the same friend. He questioned the food order and how we liked our steak cooked and then scrastically asked if we wasn't sure if we just wanted to order chicken. What topped it off was when he took our debit cards he said, "Now remember ladies I only make $2.13/hr!" I was already seriously thinking about not tipping and I always tip at least 20% & more if I think it is deserved. I ended up leaving $2.00 in cash on a $21 order. No it isn't 20% but he is lucky I left that. As I left the table he picked up my tip and said wow awesome. I should have turned around and grabbed my tip back. If I decide to go back I will refuse to have him wait on me. I'm surprised you even have him represent your establishment. He is very rude! Don't even consider ordering via phone and picking up through the drive through. Called 60+ times. Received a busy tone for all but 3. The 3 times the phone actually did ring, it rang and rang and rang and no one answered. Went to the window to see if I could order there on account that their phones must be messed up. I was told that they could not take orders at the window and that I would have to come in. At the time of the incident I was sick and on antibiotics. I didn't not want to come into a crowded restaurant for that reason. I also had my small child with me and did not have a mask for him. Not to mention I do not take him into crowded restaurants because of COVID. Staff was incredibly rude and insensitive and I will not be going back. I WOULD NOT recommend them. We were in town from Hernando MS for a quick weekend getaway with our boys to Holiday World. We hadn't eaten anything all day and sushi was calling our name. We saw this place on the list and it had great reviews and decided to give it a try. I am SOOOO glad we did! We have two growing boys that eat a lot so we don't do sushi much with them because we usually spend too much. The sushi is apparently always half price so all of us got a roll. We had the KY Roll, TN Roll and the Hawaiian Roll. The KY Roll and TN Rolls are both deep fried and were amazing!! My husband had nothing but rave reviews for his Hawaiian Roll. He said it was like nothing he had eaten before. It had a thin slice of mango on top which he said perfectly complimented the rest of it. Our meal started with soup and salad. The soup had great flavor and i absolutely loved the dressing. Im not sure what set it apart from other Japanese restaurants but the fact that the ginger wasn't overwhelming made it so yummy. The hibachi chicken and hibachi shrimp we got was so big that my boys ate their chicken fried rice and tried to help me finish mine but couldn't. The veggies were perfectly cooked and had potatoes with it which was not anything I had before. The hibachi also had noodles and fried rice which was also a surprise for us. The entire hibachi meal was perfect! All of the food was brought to our table so quickly too! The service was quick, fast and friendly. Wasabi would have 5 stars if they didn't switch to serving lower quality chicken meat last year. The yum yum sauce is very tasty. I LOVE their noodles, rice, and soup and could eat it every day if I wanted to gain 20 pounds. They also have an excellent sushi selection. I would recommend staying away from the chicken though as it is not the best quality. I have switched to usually ordering hibachi vegetables because I don't enjoy chewing on each piece of chicken for 10 minutes. The restaurant advertises half of sushi all day, which places the price right around where most other sushi restaurants in the area charge. The sushi was okay, nothing really stuck out and the waitress replied ,"haven't tried it", to just about the entire menu. It would appear that the Wasabi Express on Southtown & Frederica is doing so well that they opened up a second location on highway 54. This location is located in a strip mall that isn't visible to 54, I guess people will find it from word of mouth. I've always enjoyed the food from Wasabi Express. Granted I've had better sushi at other places, but the fast service & low prices cannot be beat. I was looking forward to trying out this new location, Wasabi 54. We stopped in around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon. They places wasn't busy at all. We entered the restaurant & saw two of the teenage, female servers sitting at the sushi bar, both on their phones. They both looked at us & then back down at their phones. I walked over to the hostess stand & was greeted by the hostess, she sat us at one of the large, but very narrow booths. The decor here is a little fancier than the older location, but you can still see the DIY creations, such as the booths, the table tops & the ceiling decorations. I wished the booths had a little more breathing room though, I'm not sure how larger people sit there. They do have a couple tables with chairs, maybe they put them there. Our server was a male in his 30s & friendly. He took our drink order & we skimmed the menu. If you've been the Southtown location, you'll recognize the menu as its the same. A little gimmick they have is "50% sushi all day, every day" which to me is a little annoying. If it's going to be half price all the time, just put the half price price on the menu. Instead you're left to do simple math. Also, you're given a laminated sushi menu with the places to mark your order, but then you just tell the server your order. I ordered the yum yum roll (spicy crab) for $6.50 or $3.25 after discount & the spicy yellowtail (diced yellowtail & spicy mayo) for $8.50 or $4.25 after discount. Phillip ordered the fried shrimp roll (crab meat & avocado) for $7.99 or $3.995 after discount. He also ordered the hibachi vegetables for $4.99. Who said math wasn't fun?! It didn't take but about ten minutes or so for our food to arrive. I was a little disappointed that the sushi didn't come with pickled ginger. I cannot remember if the other location did ginger or not. My two rolls were on a golden plate that looked more like a decorative coffee table plate than a food plate. It gave the sushi an unpleasant golden glow on the rice. I think it was 50 percent plate & 50 percent the actual sushi because the spicy sauce they used on the crab & yellowtail must've bled through the rice. The appearance wasn't that great. The spicy crab was good, it is spicy. The yellowtail was even more spicy, I think the fish must soak in a spicy bath because on the bottom of the plate there was. A lot of sauce left. I tried the fried shrimp roll & was disappointed that there wasn't much crunch at all. The fried part of the shrimp wasn't crispy & the panko bread crumbs weren't crunchy. I tried the veggies and rice & they were good. On my way to the bathroom to wash my hands after lunch I noticed one of the teenage servers lying down in one of the booths. I'm not sure if this standard practice or just because there wasn't that many people in the restaurant, but that & the phone usage didn't seem very professional. I'm glad that they've had success enough to open a new location in the up & coming 54 area, I just wished they'd focus on making the rolls a little better. This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in town. The total experience is quite unique. The LED lights on the bar and the general low lighting of the entire restaurant adds to the experience. From the first time I tried wasabi, I loved it. I am a sucker for hibachi and theirs is wonderful. The chicken is quality - actually chicken breasts cut into nice pieces, unlike the stringy fatty chicken you can get other places. It comes with a huge side of rice, noodles, vegetables, miso soup, and a salad. If you can eat all of that for the price, you will be full for days. I've always received good service despite the place often being busy. If you order take out, there's a drive thru window! Love this new sushi place, conveniently located on Hwy 54. It's not easy to spot from the main drag and from the outside it doesn't look too impressive but the interior is absolutely beautiful.
