We got carry outs. Called it in and said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I found that pretty quick. We took it home, and it was cold. I forgot that the last time we got food there, we had to take it home and reheat it. We do not live that far away, so it should have been hot had it been made properly. I had the beef and broccoli. The beef was stringy and not much sauce. My date had the Happy Family. It was good, but had to be reheated as well. I am not sure I will continue to go there as it has not been great lately. read more

I am hesitant to order egg foo young to go, sometimes there is an oily taste. NOT the case here. The shrimp egg foo young I ordered was not only not oily at all, but the shrimp was so fresh. It's still delicious and holds together the next day. I also ordered vegetable fried rice and was impressed with the variety of vegetables and the big chunks of mushrooms, which I love. I'm originally from Chicago. When I would go back to visit, I would stop by my favorite Chinese Restaurant there (Lee's on Diversey and Western), have dinner with my daughter and bring leftovers back. I broke down one time, about 2 years after I moved here, to Monroe, and tried Chopsticks. I decided I wouldn't be going back there anytime soon. Fast forward 5 or 6 years, thought I'd try out 'New' Chopsticks. I was with a group of people, they wanted Chinese, so I went. BESIDES, I told myself, it's been 5 or 6 years. It's the "New Chopsticks", I continued telling myself, trying to keep an open mind. Well, safe to say, I won't be going back to New Chopsticks. The food was horrible! I went there for pickup on Saturday Nov 13,2021. I ordered from their takeout menu, trusting it to be accurate, as I was later told it was the most recent menu. I ordered 4 items: 1) Four Season=menu price $11.95--I was charged $12.75 2) Pao Pao platter for 2= Menu price $10.95, and I was charged $12.95 3) House Lo Mein Menu price $9.15, and I was charged $9.95, and 4) crab rangoons Menu price $4.75, and I was charged $4.95. I brought it to the attention of Jessica, the cashier, and she said the takeout menu pricing was wrong. Then I inquired if the sit down menu had correct pricing, and she said no, those menus are not correct either. I asked where does one find correct pricing? She said on their website (since then I have not found a website for them). How convenient--hide you real pricing on a website that doesn't appear to exist. I then asked what they were going to do about overcharging me, I was told nothing--that is the correct pricing. Well I can do something--warn everybody who is thinking about eating here that you will be overcharged. The owner is aware of the pricing problems, and blamed it on an outside company that prints her menus. Sorry, lame excuse--you own the business--it is your fault you are ripping off customers and refuse to do anything about it when they complain. As for me, I do not appreciate being screwed over, and I will never come back, and encourage others to eat somewhere else. read more

The New Chopsticks is worthy of a visit. Great food, ample portions and nice staff. We stopped going here 10 years ago as the food was.. Well not very good. Great to have a Chinese option for lunch or supper again. BTW: Hot sour soup is pretty darn good and great egg rolls. I wish the new owners continued success. read more

I've eaten in Chinatown-- New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Had some phenomenal food, and some not so phenomenal food. Chop Sticks is as good as it gets. It's not upscale--they haven't remodeled since the place that was there before closed over 10 years ago. It doesn't matter. The food is so so good. I've asked for things not on the menu, and they are more than happy to make it. Meat and seafood are always fresh, and all of the sauces are awesome. Their black bean sauce is the best! I love it. Every time I go "home", I try to eat there. It's a small town (cute! visit!) I try to eat there. When they first opened I thought there was no way a chinese restaurant would last in Monroe (very German and Swiss area), but it's thriving! And...I'm happy. There's always good takeout to be gotten. We've only been for lunch so far. Everything was as we had hoped. Traditional Chinese menu in America. Egg rolls had actual flavor in the filling. Didn't taste like they were from a 5 pound freezer bag. Egg Drop soup was richer than many we have had and the Hot and Sour seemed house made. The lunch specials were a good value. I'd like to see more combinations on all Chinese menus on Wisconsin. Maybe it's a local thing. Anyway, we'll surely be back. I'll note that $4.50 seemed a bit steep for Tsingtao beer but I don't usually pay attention. Nice friendly people too. Great place. read more

This place is prime. As far as Chinese food goes, this place is top notch. I didn't expect much from this place in such a small town. I had come here on several occasions back in the summer of 2012 with a friend. I had the cashew chicken one time and it was perfect. The other time I had vegetable chicken with white rice. All was perfectly done and tasted phenomenal. The service was exceptional as well and I had a great experience here. Really my only complaint was the crab ranguns. They looked typical but did not have the sweetness that they should have to make them good. So my only tip here is to avoid the crab ranguns. Otherwise assuming this place hasn't changed too much, expect a great meal. read more

Chopsticks was recommended for us to try. I love Good Chinese Food, plus they have a small Beer and Wine selection. My husband ordered a Combination Platter with several meats. I ordered the Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce. They were both delicious. I love crisp vegetables, but It didn't indicate on the menu any came with it. I asked for no onions and I still got them. The rice was either white or fried white with your meal. I prefer brown rice. Lots of good food. I would have preferred a better wine selection. Overall the service was quick and excellent. Chop Sticks is on the beautiful Monroe courthouse square, next to Baumgartner's cheese store and pub., there's plenty of parking on the street. A local favorite and a favorite of GLJ. I've had the pleasure of eating in some of the finest little Chinese kitchens throughout the US, Mexico, and Canada. I have eaten in the large 'old style' dim sum places ( my fave) in China-towns on both coasts and in Chicago. Chop Sticks does a good job staying true with what it has chosen to offer rather than offering 'Americanized' versions that most of us wouldn't notice. Alll of their soups are very good (my fave is the hot and sour but as a family we usually compromise on wonton soup). I recommend going ahead and ordering in courses. Soup, dim sum, entrè and rice, and finish with a good tea and almond cookie. But plan on sharing if you're not a big eater. One caution (and a suggestion)... if your stomach is delicate, ask for Szechwan made 'not hot' but - if you can tolerate a little spice in your life... go for. It. The spice helps make the dishes authentic. Soon you will miss it when it has been omitted. I've not had a bad meal yet! read more

Food is reasonably priced and very good. The eggrolls are the best around. Their spicy is a nice heat. Not just a tang. I haven't lived in the area in a while. But when I come back to town and this is my first restaurant stop. Everything I have had on the menu I have enjoyed. read more

The food here is always good the scallion pancakes are simply the best though. My favorite options from the menu are General Tsos chicken, szechwaun anything, there sweet and sour chicken, and the beef and pea pod. if you are in the mood for oriental cuisine and in the Monroe are this is a place to check out. read more

This is classic example of a American fast food version of Chinese food. Hey have you ever seen a "Chinese" take out place fail? No? So they are all great? I guess so. Employees seemed nice here though. If you are unwilling to go to Madison this is awesome Chinese food. read more

Chopsticks is pretty good for the most part, I just wish they would use fresh real chicken in the lo mien and the fried rice. In both dishes it seems like deli chicken loaf is used. But, with that said, all the rest of the dishes we have ordered have been pretty good. read more

Went for my wife's b day. Haven't been for a few years, really gone down hill. Waitress was new, didn't know much. We started off with crab rangoon, way over cooked and very tough to chew. Would've sent it back, but wife was ok with it. Since this has been her favorite place, I think she was giving them the benefit of a doubt. After a long wait her Gen. Tso's came first, almost immediately she got a piece that was like shoe leather. Instead of rice, wifey wanted lo mein. There is an extra charge for that, fine we say. The lo mein is vermicelli, and it's $5 extra(?!?!). Mine seemed good, the veggies and sauce tasty, until I got the leather chicken too. Last straw, send it back, it's over cooked. The owner gave us a huge guilt trip, we should've ordered it the way we wanted it. What??! I've eaten this before, didn't have to say, please don't fry this so that I can't chew it. What? Then, she wanted to make us 2 more, we say 'no, just make us 1 and only charge us for one'. As she's walking back she actually said something to the effect of there are a lot of starving people that would like to have this. Ok, mom. The meal was $11.95, and then an extra $5 for the "lo mein" upgrade. What is that, like a 40% charge?? We are done with this place. Another thing, want carry out? Takes 45 min, no joke. Any other Chinese place, you order 50 things and they say, "10 minute". I thought I should add that I'm 'local', not sure if that matters, but when I'm reading reviews I like to know myself. Ordered food last night, I live three blocks away and it was cold when I got home. The shrimp didn't taste right so I threw what I had in my bowl away and left the rest in the container. Fried rice was cold, bland and not nearly as good as when the former owners of Chopsticks made it. I left that too. Ordered beef and broccoli, that too was cold. The chicken teriyaki sticks were tiny and almost burnt. I put all of it in the fridge and called Chopsticks today. She asked that the food be brought in so I did and right in front of customers, she fished a shrimp out of the container, ate it and said it tasted fine to her. Yes, the owner did that. She also said, "of course it's going to be cold, you put it in the refrigerator, you have to eat it right away." I told her again that it was cold when I got home. I didn't return it last night because it was late. They did remake the food and when she brought it out, she opened every container at the cash register to show that it was hot. Incredibly rude. There are too many great places to eat in Monroe, especially on the Square, to ever go there again. I miss the old owners! read more
