This Funeral is the worst , if not the worst funeral home to ever exist. Their communication sucks a lot. They don't bother to reply to questions or inquiries. They took an Obituary down since November supposedly it is being re-Written and here we are , almost 3 weeks, and the my mother's Obituary page is still not found on their site. Sickening and people should look elsewhere for their families eternal place and service. This funeral home sucks big times. read more

Caring, professional, less expensive than most. It was a year ago this week we lost our Dad, and I am reminded of just how helpful our funeral director David and the staff at New Comer were. Dad was not much for fancy things, nor of putting money in the ground, literally, and he had made clear to us that when the time came, he wanted the most basic casket, vault, preparation, and closed casket service at the funeral home. Unlike the old school Albany funeral home that handled my Mom's services 4 years earlier, here there was no embarrassing hard up-sell, no pushy salesman, no attempt to shame us into spending more than Dad would have wanted. Instead, David simply explained our options, listened to us, took our direction with professionalism and care, and followed Dad's wishes exactly. The video tribute prepared for Dad was beautiful, and the simple service just perfect, down to the US Navy shield on the visitor log, memorial cards and even the hearse. Every staff interaction was courteous, respectful and helpful. At a terrible time for our entire family, David and the team could not have been more of a comfort. Last minute requests were handled with ease, and the result was that we all had time to focus on each other, instead of the logistics of burial. I have nothing but the nicest things to say about how this devastating time for us was handled by the staff in the Latham location. My son is 9 years old and unexpectedly lost his father. When I called last minute and asked for my son to have time in the room with his dad one more time before cremation they arranged everything for him to have his own time in his own chapel for as long as he needed. They brought us water and were nothing but compassionate. They then helped us in purchasing personalized necklaces and urns, and everything is beautiful. Thank you so much for all of your empathy and compassion- all of you, and a very special thank you to Justin who my son can not say anything other than how great you were to him. I would like to say that i just had the worst thing happen to anyone. I lost my son. I know its weird that i would want to leave a review so soon but honestly dont think i could have gotten through this horrible experience without their help. I would never send my family, friends, or loved ones here. They are a chain located out of state. Every services I've attended here, the building reminds me of a walmart, bright fluorescent lighting, sterile cold atmosphere and no character. Going through the horrific events that was the passing of my Mother, I truly hoped there would be a silver lining somewhere. Being out of state, it was suggested by my brother, familiar with New Comer from the passing of my cousin and aunt we go with them. Knowing nothing about this place, I rolled with it since it was very close to my Mom's house. The initial call was fine. I was asked if they had permission to take her into their care. I said yes and explained anything else would need to be dealt with my sister, who was in charge of the financials and provided her cell number. I was told it would be 1 hour to 90 mins. for them to pick her up. It strangely ended up being almost 30 mins. No big deal. Then they took my mom and our scheduled meeting was that Wednesday (she passed on a Monday). I had to call about money that was in my Mom's pocket and I was asked about her ring, which thank the Lord I was given. When we got there that Wednesday, everyone seemed nice, we were offered water. We met in a conference room and started going over the plans. To our complete and unpleasant surprise, we learned my mother was ALREADY ELMBALMED!! At NO point did we give permission to do this. HOW on earth did this happen?! Any hope of an autopsy went right out the door (We were contemplating it). So, we were basically FORCED to have a showing, but I wanted that anyway. Then came the cost. I was more or less okay with it, but my sister wasn't. The Supervisor of our Director came in and took off the embalming (as he should) but then once we decided to skip the viewing (I was reluctant but complied) and go straight to cremation, our Director's attitude changed big time. She was no longer sweet, but fuming. Once we finally got a decent service date, I was really disappointed in what I saw. There was NO picture of my mother, just her urn and the beautiful flowers we bought for it. The candles were red and a little grim looking. I had to ASK for a picture of my mother, which they had. What? There was NO hospitality whatsoever and I had to keep coming back and forth for things and issues with the TV where my mother's pic and looping video of sunflowers was timing out. There was no water offered, nothing to comfort me and my visibly grieving family and you would think since they really blew it with the embalming, they'd throw in the $65 guestbook. Nope. It is obvious if you don't spend a lot of money there, you get what you pay for. Had we gone with the original plan, I'm sure some hoops would have been jumped through. Very disappointing and unfortunate during a VERY sad time. read more

We have had New Comer and Cannon arrange a number of family funerals over the years. My father recently passed away and we of course went to New Comer again. This experience was not the same as the previous ones. Maybe it is due to the leaving of Cannon. Our funeral director we first made arrangements with at the beginning of the week did not tell us that she would not be available for the service or for contacting later in the week. We felt like we were left hanging with what steps needed to be taken as the week progressed. They placed our newspaper announcement with the wrong date of the service in it which we had to catch and tell them to correct. On the morning of the service a new person we had not worked with yet was officiating the service. It was not personal at all. We were not guided through the experience. The open casket cosmetics were aweful at best. At the end of the service I asked to pay our bill in full which I did. A month later they continue to contact me about added expenses which apparently they forgot to put in the bill I asked to pay. Yes, the price was reasonable but the service was not what I had come to expect from this funeral home. read more

I was a bit nervous w the choice of a " cheaper" funeral home. After , was not so great . My moms book I was told that would remain online , I had to argue w the woman there to keep it up and online. I was not treated well at all afterward. This was my Mom. Her family acted like morons and the funeral home treated me same I am not happy w said treatment . I am educated, I am also a Doctor. I understand the others in her family are not . I did not appreciate being treated like them . Talking about others who are in shock is not dignified nor classy. I would not recommend this place due to this reason . No staff should ever gossip lie and take away the child's rights and hand them to an extended member of the family and not tell me anything !!! I am not happy at all. I know they were awful I get it but I DID NOT DESERVE this NOT AT ALL!!! That is when I saw that when you go cheap you get cheap talk. Please take your loved one to a different funeral home. This is disgusting of the staff absolutely disgusting . Especially when I am the adult child . My mother's hair was a wreck as well. Imagine walking into a room to view your mom at her funeral only to have to do her hair fix her clothes etc. read more

My grandmother passed while we were away on vacation. We dealt mostly with Arthur. He was so awesome! He is in the right business. He was so kind, helpful and reassuring.
