Finally visited this park after sitting in my list to visit for a while now... It's beautiful as it is in the pictures. We visited last week on a perfect Ny fall weather day & we truly enjoy our mini day trip. It's only an hour drive from Nyc, no crowd during the week day & nobody was manning the entrance booth so we got in free that day. The view of the waterfall & the sorrounding area is so chill & relaxing. lots of good spots to take pictures. A number of tables & benches is available, so bring a picnic when you visit on warmer months.

This dam is so pretty! You have to pay $10/vehicle to get into the park at the bottom so if you go I'd plan to stay for a little while if you can. There is also a small parking lot towards the top of the dam that was free but not really much to do but look down on the park/at the water. Great for photos and a nice stop for someone who might not be able to make the small trek from the bottom to the top.

Beautiful place to spend an afternoon. Visited with a group of finds a spring afternoon. There is so much flat area to just settle down for a picnic, let the kids play around and get tired. We spend a couple of hours looking at the water fall and listen to the sound of water rushing down the dam. There is a path to go down to the river below. I'll be coming back this summer definitely a place to bring visiting friends in Westchester county.

The croton dam was definitely very well maintained and Worth sight seeing . You just need to walk up a dirt path which is about half mile not even and the walk down the bridge and boom there it is!! You do need to pay $10 for parking in the park which I felt was overpriced but it is what it is. They do have picnic tables, a playground and porta potties .

A beautiful location with stunning falls. Perfect for hiking, picnics, or just some serenity. There's tables and areas for bbq's, and a small playground for kids. Parking is $10, it's not usually crowded except for Holidays. There's a path to go down near the water, and you can also hike to the top (takes about 10 minutes).

Beautiful park and Dam. The scenery is gorgeous but the dam is in need of some repair. Lots of rust. There's a couple of spots the rust ate through the rails. The gorge, reservoir and the waterfall are quite spectacular. The hike from the park to the top of the dam is manageable, but driving is easier. There's a small lot on one side of the dam or street parking on the other side.

Went fishing at croton reservoir. Not many bites but peaceful and plenty of places to socially distance. Easily assessable by car and a short walk to the shoreline.

The top of the dam is just as interesting as the park below. You can hike up here via the OCATT, which originates here, or you can take the Croton Dam Road and park near the top, there are spaces at both ends of the dam. There's a lot of interesting architecture to see, as well as views of the reservoir and the spillway from the top. All in all a worthwhile place to visit.

Very Beautiful & well kept. Perfect for walks or just a relaxing afternoon! They have picnic tables & parking. I did not have to pay a fee when i visited, not sure if you have to pay but its worth paying if you are an nature and outdoor person!

Beautiful reservoir that has dirt whining roads for anyone who is fond of mountain walking trails! I loved the peaceful and less crowded wonder of this park. I prefer the warmer months to visit because the place can be icy, get really dark quickly(no lights installed on walking trails), and cold during the winter months. If you visit in the winter it's best to enjoy earlier than later.

The highlight of the park of course is the waterfall, which is a sight to behold. There isn't anything else like it in the lower New York area. I would highly suggest people from NYC to take the one-hour drive up here to visit it. The views of the waterfall from the park area great, but for some phenomenal views of the waterfall and hudson river from above, I suggest taking the Croton Dam Road path to the closed the closed bridge on top which is now a walkway. Set your navigation to the intersection of Quaker Ridge Road and Croton Dam Road and make the turn onto Croton Dam Road which will lead you to the southeast side of the closed bridge where you can park along the side of the road and take a walk on the bridge. You can also set your navigation to the intersection of Croton Dam Road and Route 129 (Old Yorktown Road) and turn onto Croton Dam Road to the northwest side of the bridge. You can park along the side of the road and walk onto the bridge.

I was dragged up here to Croton dam, had no idea of its existence till now but here it is. It was not a spectacularly sunny day but the weather was fair with some cloud cover at times. Walking around and below the dam we found the scenery to be rather picturesque. The fall foliage was rather colorful, can't equal that of Vermont and upstate New York but it is beautiful in its own way. Quite surprised there were only 3 reviews of this place. Certainly more delicious and invigorating than most restaurants with considerably more reviews. Browsing through the pictures posted in the summer, this place certainly looked very verdant and there was water flowing over the spill way which there was none today Whatever and whenever it is you will find the beauty of this place in your own way.

My husband and I stopped by this park on our anniversary trip. It's absolutely stunning in person. Navigation was a little confusing, but that might have been user error . The walk across the top of the Dam has beautiful views, and stunning backdrops for photos. Would love to come back in the fall to see the foliage.

Though the guide's knowledge was great, the house itself... Meh. Age and apathy seem to have settled the house down into a state not quite approaching disrepair but not far off either. What once may have been grandiose is now just old, jaded, faded, and big, but not fancy, while the conservation service running the show seems disinclined to keep up with the grounds on any level other than blowing leaves away from the walkways. Even the cars in the museum have half flat tires. Waste of time and money.

Great experience at the Kykuit Highlights Tour…read more This tour is about 1.5 hours and covers the first floor of the estate and outside. There are other (longer) tours that include more of the estate if you like. All tours leave from the Visitor's Center. There is a large parking lot there...but there is also some overflow parking around the corner ii needed. The overflow lot is a short walk to the Visitor's Center. The center has a large shop with lots of gifts and souvenirs. There are also some snacks and bakery-items (coffee, tea, pastries) available for purchase. There are bathrooms and the ticketing area. You check in at the ticketing area and are given a hand band. A bus (very nice and comfy) will take the tour guests from the visitor's center to the estate...the ride is about 10 minutes. The tour guide will also be on the bus offering some information throughout the ride, including information on the structures and facilities within the larger estate as you pass those by. The tour itself was great...but I can see some may want to visit the other floors of the estate, which is only included in the longer tours. Lots of information throughout the tour. They do keep the schedule pretty tight though as I noticed our tour guide checking the schedule regularly to determine how much time to spend at each room. I understand this is crucial in order to accommodate the various timed tours but it does leave little room for asking questions and some of it felt a little rushed. Photography is ONLY permitted outside of the estate. You cannot take photos inside the estate. You are taken back to the visitor's center when the tour it completed. Overall I had a great visit. I would love to return to view some of the other offerings...such as the Philipsburg Manor. All staff I encountered were friendly and helpful.

This historic site was home to pivotal decisions during the Revolutionary War, made by George Washington himself. The museum/buildings themselves have limited hours (which are listed on the parks website) but we were able to walk the grounds freely which was nice. There are gates/fencing surrounding the site, which were locked as we went around - but toward the opposite side of the site (where I believe their designated parking lot is? We weren't sure but it looked like their lot) there is an opening where you can walk a gravel path that will take you through the site. It was really cool being able to see the buildings here. Even though the park is nestled in a neighborhood/town, I felt pretty immersed in the history just walking along the paths. We got to see the buildings that George Washington was present in, plus the various monuments that were erected on site. The state parks put up informational signs around the area so we could easily read up on the history. It was a really nice way to get even just a taste of history while we were here, which was perfect for our constricted time frame. If I'm ever traveling this way again, I'd definitely try to make it for a tour of the interiors.

Made of huge blocks of brownstone, this lighthouse can survive anything the ocean and nature can throw at it. Great Captain's Island is frequently said to be named for the infamous Captain Kidd but it is far more likely the island is named after Captain Daniel Patrick, one of the founders of the town of Greenwich. The island is about 17 acres and a lovely place indeed. Noted for it's large population of birds, herons, ospreys, egrets and even some owls, the island is alive in the spring with nests and colors. The island was a very exclusive private club and casino but that all burned down in 1947. For many years it was open only to residents of the town of Greenwich but now anyone can go out there. A ferry runs during the summer months but since it is only about two miles off shore it can be kayaked to at any time. The lighthouse is no longer active but it is still a wonderful sight.
