I may have mentioned in several other reviews that Indian is my favorite cuisine, and when I go for Indian for my lunch or dinner, I always make sure that the place is authentic, and that they know what they are doing. New Delhi Restaurant, in Quirino Avenue may not entirely be easy to find, especially if you do not have a car. The only way I know how to get there when I'm not with my friends who drive is to take a cab. You will this small gem behind the gasoline station with the Shakeys. You really have to know where to look since it's pretty easy to miss. There is also a "buwis buhay" factor to getting to the place, because the roads going there are always overrun by humongous trucks and cargo container vans.
My favorites from this place are chana and dal masala. Their curries are seriously fiery and good, they already have a big following from the Indian community. What I also love here is the masala dosa,or an Indian-style crepe, for the uninitiated. The dosa's pastry must be the right mixture of crunchy and pliant, and New Delhi's dosa perfectly captured that texture. The stuffing, made from peas and potatoes fill you up really quickly, and if that's not enough, pile on some more sambar or a thick lentil soup and top it with coconut chutney.
New Delhi is relatively inexpensive, though most may find it so out of the way. If you are in the area to begin with, though, then it is worth trying. read more
