Dr. El-Gazzar and his staff are fantastic. I have been working with them to treat a wrist injury for the past year or so and they have been consistently attentive, responsive, and effective. Professional and caring doctor. I travel a ways to see him when I need to because he really is great and they are flexible. My issue is parking and wait time. There is a parking lot you can use and they validate for 2 hours. Problem is you may be there longer then 2 hours. Wait time is too long. I have been in the waiting up to and longer than 45 min only to be called to be put in a room for another 45 min or longer. Whoever is in charge of scheduling needs to revamp. Waiting 1hr or more is obscene and an inconvenient. We should be called within 15 min of appt time and then seen right after being put into a room. read more

I did a lot of research when I was considering surgery for my torn meniscus, I came across a lot of different doctors whom I visited before finalizing Dr. Elgazzar as my doctor. There are a number of reasons for my decision and I hope if you have the same questions or concerns, this will help. 1. I was not sure about surgery, unlike other doctors I visited, Dr.Elgazzar read my report and was able to tell me that surgery was not needed as long as I'm not active but was necessary for me to get back into sports and living healthy 2. He ran a full assessment and didn't show any signs of just forcing me into surgery but rather sat with me and explained everything to me. His analysis were new, no other doctor examined my knee the same way and this built confidence instantly. 3. He is super friendly and was very professional with the way he answers question. I HAD A LOT OF QUESTIONS. Other doctors told me that they know what they are saying and I need to do surgery without really answering my concerns (they were always in a hurry). 4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is a meniscus expert, meaning unlike others he will actually try his best to save your meniscus rather than cut it out like other have suggested. This is really important to consider as you don't want to have other issues as you get older. I received 4 orthopedic offices to pick from my primary doctor and, not knowing who was who, I just went blindly using Internet reviews to select Dr. El-Gazzar. I was a nervous wreck due to previous experiences with other doctors in general, but, by the end of the first visit, I was relaxed, trusted the doctor, and followed his directions. Thus far, my knee surgery went well and I'm currently up to physical therapy for several months before heading back to work. I had an appointment with Dr. El-Gazzar regarding foot pain. Post in house X-ray, he prescribes a walking boot and tells me to get an MRI. I get the MRI up in Boston, my wife drops the MRI scan/CD off at his office in JC and a few days later, I have a virtual appointment with him. At my appointment, he tells me that his office staff (who are very nice btw) screwed up and he doesn't have the CD/scan uploaded and he is not at the office to review it. He then tells me to stay in the boot for a month and that he will review the MRI and come back to me with specific prognosis. He never comes back to me. I call the office 7x asking over the course of a month for him to review the scan, I even tell them he can just send an email. Nothing. A doctor who cant even be bothered to review a patient's MRI - that he requested! Why bother being a doctor then? read more

Dr. El-Gazzar is an excellent Orthopedic physician. He surgically repaired my elbow a few years ago and now you can't even see the scar. I had to go to him again recently for my knee and he diagnosed my condition very quickly, with no surgical intervention necessary. This is the absolute worst place. They don't returns calls, doctor shows up 2 hrs late. Told me I needed surgery before he saw my X-ray. Seriously.? They never ordered my knee shots, never called me back. Literally no communication between front desk and office staff. A bunch of clown work here. First off, Dr. El-Gazzar saw me with very short notice. I had been given misinformation from my hospital after an emergency room visit. Surgery was needed but that information was not communicated to me. Without having even seen me yet the doctor scheduled an immediate appointment. Prior to that all of the other doctor's that took my insurance were booked up for over a month (by that point surgery would've been almost impossible). Dr. El-Gazzar got me into surgery within a week of the initial consultation and fixed my shoulder expertly. My shoulder is healing well and the scar is very minimal, maybe even a little badass. On top of that he's very knowledgeable and courteous. I can't thank him and his efficient, effective, and kind staff enough. read more

I went to Dr. El-Gazzar after spraining my ankle. First, the building is BARELY handicap accessible. It was exhausting to get in and out via the ramp on the side of the building. After getting an x-ray, I waited in the room for 20+ minutes before the doctor came in. Then, after barely saying hello and quickly examining me he listed off all the scary possible injuries it could be. I explained that I had never injured myself before and was visibly nervous. He did not seem to care. After the x-ray and waiting another 15 minutes, he came back in to examine it and determined that I have an injury that may or may not need a cast, depending on the MRI he wants to send me for. He said the decision was up to me, but I did not know anything and kept explaining that this is all new to me. Finally we decided on a cast to be on the safe side. Then he said since I was wearing tight pants I would need to cut them off when I get home since they won't fit over the cast, and made me feel stupid for being upset about that or for wearing them in the first place. Umm, no thanks?!!? So he let me us the disposable shorts they had. While doing the cast, he kept telling me to keep my foot straight and when I failed to do so, he scolded me. I'm trying my best here, buddy and a little sympathy and encouragement would be nice in what was a very overwhelming situation for me. Then I mentioned I had a trip coming up that was 2 months away. He said very quickly that I shouldn't go and that was that. I kept asking him questions and he kept dismissing me and that's when I began to cry. He didn't seem to care even a little bit. And lastly, I said I only have 1 crutch (I didn't think my injury was that serious when I came in, so I was only using 1 at that point). He berated me and said I was lucky that they had 1 available that I could use. And then sent me on my way and that was that. Needless to say, I found another ortho to read my MRI after I got it done, and when Dr. El-Gazzar called me to follow up (on a Saturday night, no less?!!???) I quickly dismissed him and said I had found someone better. That being said, I highly HIGHLY recommend Dr. Steven Sheskier at University Place Orthopedics in Mahattan. Lovely staff, and a very lovely, friendly doctor with amazing bedside manor! He got me out of that cast and sent me on a wonderful and quick road to recovery. 2 months later and I am healed :) read more

On Aug 28th Dr El-Gazzar preformed surgery on my left shoulder. Specifically repairing a torn rotator cuff, torn labrum and a torn bicep. The surgery went very well by all accounts and as I start my rehab process i have very little pain and feel that my range of motion is coming back very quickly. I really wanted to write this review to express my thanks for Dr El Gazzar and his entire office staff. They not only met any reasonable expectation but really went above and beyond to make this a smooth and comfortable process. Very late on my review as I moved from Jersey City but Dr. El-Gazzar deserves a five star rating and I'm here to give it. When I first met Dr. El-Gazzar, I was two weeks away from doing a partial knee replacement through another Dr. Something didn't feel right and I wanted a second opinion. I not only got one, I got a new orthopedic doctor. He took the time to explain, while I had lost a lot of weight, I was still too heavy for a partial. He said the physics of the surgery wouldn't help me. We set up a plan not of surgery, but of bettering the core strength in both knees. He'd get me prescriptions for physical therapy and a mobic for arthritis. This was exactly what I needed. He wasn't just all about another knee surgery. He saw what other doctors missed. He's up on so many new techniques for dealing with knees and we had discussed some before I moved. You will not find a better orthopedic doctor in Jersey City. You won't. read more

I went to Dr. El-Gazzer with a severely sprained ankle, in a lot of pain and distress. He immediately applied a cast, let me know his suspicions, and ordered an MRI to diagnose the issue. He even gave me a pushcart to help me get around, which saved me probably $100+. Upon receiving the MRI results, turns out I fully tore my ATFL - who knew! He ordered a plan of action, and I was able to avoid surgery. Now I am nearing a full recovery. I've had a great experience with Dr. El-Gazzar. In December I broke my elbow in 3 places. I was recommended to Dr.El-Gazzar by City MD in Journal Square. ( they were also top notch but that's another review) I was seen promptly by Dr. El Gazzar, upon exam of my injury he realized that it was a complicated break that would need surgery ASAP. He was able to secure a spot for me at Christ Hospital within days which is no easy task during the Christmas holidays. The surgery went well and I am healing nicely. His office is staffed by genuinely caring professionals. From the front desk to the radiologist and medical assistants everyone has been stellar. The reception is well appointed and a comfortable place to wait for your appointment. I've never had to wait a long time to see the doctor; which is a breath of fresh air since over booking is so common these days. Dr. El-Gazzar has been my doctor since 2014. He is simply wonderful and I highly recommend him for any and all orthopedic concerns. Please take time to research his background and you will find he is highly trained and dedicated to his profession. I have never had issues with him or his staff. The wait time to be seen can sometimes be an issue but I have resolved myself to having to wait when I have an appointment and bring something to keep me occupied or watch tv while waiting. He is polite, very knowledgeable and an excellent surgeon. I love that he does not tell you what you want to hear, he tells you straight up what you are dealing with and what you will possibly have to cope with and it's up to you to decide. i went to christ hospital emergency room with a badly infected elbow after a bike accident. i had thought it would be a matter of IV antibiotics, but a CAT scan and MRI showed a large abscess in the joint, so i found myself, very unexpectedly, being admitted to the hospital and scheduled for surgery the next day. dr. el-gazzar was unknown to me previously, but he was the one who ended up doing the surgery. he is a very smart guy, confident, quick. while some might find him a bit sharp in his manner, i was mostly interested in having a clear understanding of what needed to be done, and a sense that the surgeon knew exactly what he was doing, and i got both from dr. el-gazzar. he spent time with me before the surgery, explaining and answering my questions, which was appreciated. after the surgery, during the days i had to stay in the hospital to make sure that the joint was free of infection, his visits were brisk but friendly, and i felt that he knew what he was doing. his post-op recommendations were fairly conservative, but he explained his reasons and so i was happy to comply with his instructions. i visited his office three times in the weeks after the surgery -- once to have the wound checked, and twice to get staples removed. the office is clean and pleasant, and his staff is friendly. dr. el-gazzar works quickly during office visits, but he does not make one feel rushed; he answered my questions and i was comfortable with his answers. my elbow is healing well, and i would see dr. el-gazzar again if i needed orthopedic surgery. read more
