I have been an outcall patient with my therapist Cecily H., on the third floor, which focuses on substance abuse. She has helped me so much to move on with my life. I began in an acute phase, seeing her on a weekly basis, as well as 3 other group therapy sessions per week, to now only seeing her, once a month. The entire third floor staff is extremely professional and this facility has been truly monumental with my journey in recovery. It has been almost 2 years since I began my treatment at New Horizon and I give them my highest recommendation. read more

Wow! I truly can't say enough about how professional and personable the staff are! From the moment you walk in, the front desk staff greets you with respect and sometimes even ask if you want coffee or tea! And the there are the therapists. They are very knowledgeable and obviously well educated! I have had the pleasure of working with a few of the therapists. As we all know in this field staff come and go, however, I have always felt a smooth transition took place when I had to transfer from one Therapist to another--what they call a warm handoff. My psychiatrist is the best, Dr. Elio. He always remembers what I tell him from month to month even though he has so many patients. He is very patient. If i could give ZERO stars i would. where oh where do i begin.......i typically see Dr oz every month for an injection that alleviates my anxiety. For the last year or so the reception staff at this facility has been completely and utterly INCOMPETENT, DISRESPECTFUL, AND RUDE.....but the worst thing the office staff do is talk down to me. they speak to me as if i am annoying them not ONCE. NOT TWICE. NOT THREE TIMES but EVERY. TIME. this time though was the icing on the cake. i am usually told by dr oz to notify him when i arrive on the premises ON HIS PERSONAL CELL which i am forced to do because even he knows that his staff is disrespectful as all hell. so i call him he does not answer (okay maybe he is in session, whatever). i attempt to speak to the nasty, fat, RUDE receptionist. who ALWAYS calls me by name..(which, lets be real, is her talking down to me) i tell her i am here for my 12:30 appointment with dr oz..(which i had to leave work EARLY for) she says no your appointment is either at 1, 1:15, or 1:30.............what?!?!? i try to tell her that this is not what dr oz said and i keep telling her that she literally does this EVERY TIME I COME HERE!! she then speaks to me in the most condescending way possible and says "i dont know what to tell you".....i asked her at that point to call the doctor. she refused. so i got upset and asked her why she changed my appointment time EVERY TIME, without giving prior notice?? she (again) says "i don't know what to tell you" out of complete and utter spite...i told her that this is completely unacceptable and HIGHLY unprofessional. she then summons her "boss" (a tall kid younger than me) to tell me "if I'm not gonna calm down i need to leave" i tried to ask him why his staff is so utterly rude and he would not listen telling me that i am being rude.....i said it doesn't matter if i am rude or not i am the patient, MY insurance pays YOUR salaries. he continued to not listen and called security.......at this point i left, and as i was leaving the receptionist and her staff were CHEERING.....yes they cheered like high school delinquents...because they changed my appointment...gave me zero prior notice....and i got reasonably upset about it...so they felt the need to call security.......does this sound right to anyone? does this sound like professional office behavior to you? if you have common sense and said no, then do yourself a huge favor and never go back to this office ever again believe me i wont. I truly do not understand why these dumb receptionists still have their jobs...they NEED to be fired and replaced with competent and knowledgeable staff, who need to be trained so much better than they currently are. this place EITHER NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REEVALUATED OR NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. Director keeping me from treatment unless come person. Due to my age and current health situation, I cannot go in person every week. Director of clinic will no longer allow me to have video appts with my counselor. She a note in my chart that the receptionest can not allow me to speak my Dr. unless I appear in person. I pay a caretaker a caretaker. The mileage to go to and from the office is too expensive I cannot afford this. As a result, I have run out of medication. It is a difficult situation to find another clinic without a long waiting list. I use a walker and cannot go down a concrete step. The New Horizon mental health facility is not a place I would recommend. They seem to go out of their way to make you feel like a delinquent regarding your appointments. When you call, they always promise to make a note of your issue, but nothing ever gets done. My wife is pregnant, and they denied her access to her medication. Every time I called, they had no record of our previous conversations. We've contacted New Horizon multiple times, but each time, someone is conveniently on vacation. This facility is dishonest and only contacts patients with inaccurate bills and bogus appointments. They seem more interested in money than in actually helping their patients. No one there seems to know what they are doing. My wife emailed the doctor directly and he as well totally failed to respond back to her. Never go there or send your loved ones. read more

I have been attending new horizon counseling Center for a year now, my first visit was with Cecily Haramis who is the program director and a counselor, she was so understanding of my pain and anguish and instead of recommending another counselor, she kept me as a client. I was so grateful and thankful for her commitment to me. Since then, we have created a relationship of confidence and insight. I have seen other counselors throughout the years, and I am so grateful I found Cecily. Sometimes it takes many tries until you find the right fit, believe me, I have tried, it took me four tries before I found Cecily. After a few sessions she recommended me to see the psychiatrist in their group, his name is Dr. Feldman. I enjoyed our talks and his input on my problems, he is very honest and compassionate man, but he dealt deeper into what I was dealing with. I no longer see him, but he said if I ever need to see him, he is always available. Then Cecily recommended that I attend a group session; I was incredibly open to it and after the first meeting I knew I was going to love it. The counselor for this group is Lydia Cerimi. She is amazing, funny, listens and understands what we are all going through and what is great about this group is we are all adults around the same age. I really enjoy the group meetings. It is so nice to be around adults that can empathize with your problems and feelings. They are such a wonderful group of people; I really enjoy our group sessions. The whole experience of New Horizon has been a path filled with professionalism, dedication, enthusiasm, and encouragement. The integrity of these professionals is unsurpassed. As I have traveled down the path to success this year, I focused on me and making me better. Without the dedication of the staff at New Horizon, I would not be where I am now. Also, I would like to thank the support staff on the third floor, they always greet you with a smile and hello even before our sessions begin so the whole experience has been wonderful. Wow, the reviews are precisely what I expected. My one and only visit was an absolute disaster. The place screamed--Disorganization!!!! But the worst part was the doctor pulled out a manual, perused it and then gave my son a ridiculous diagnosis. This doctor clearly had no interest in my son's well being. In fact, he was clearly agitated with my son's mental health issues. When we left there, we felt discouraged about the prospects for my son, but we were certain that their license should be revoked. Hope you don't need anything because a big fat nothing is all you'll get. I have AuDHD and making phone calls is very hard for me. I used the website contact form twice - no response. Sent 4 emails - no response. Messaged on Facebook - no response. Messaged on Twitter - no response. Messaged on Instagram - no response. My other mental health conditions finally overruled my AuDHD and I managed to call the Smithtown office and was immediately shuffled off to call another number for their centralized intake. 1st - they didn't even transfer me but made me have to make another call 2nd - Nothing like making people sound like just a conveyor belt through a system by calling it centralized intake. I called and spoke to a young woman who really had a hard time handling basic information. Had trouble with my last name (Samson), I told her I was homeless but that's not why I'm calling, I'm only interested in MH services but she put me on hold anyway to see about care coordinator services. Couldn't seem to understand how to input my insurance ID number and then debated it with me - first time in over 5 years that anyone ever told me I was giving them the wrong ID lol. When asked if I was suicidal or having thoughts of suicide I stupidly said yes, but there is no imminent danger. It's part of why I'm calling. Various medical and mental health and family issues has me thinking "why bother" except I'm holding on for my little nieces. She tells me to receive mental health services with them I have to get a psych evaluation. I said I'm going to them for psych evaluations and on-going service. She kept saying I couldn't make an appointment unless I went to ER, Urgent Care, or some other facility for an evaluation. Even if they made me an appointment with them they would still require the evaluation proof. Sooooooo - I come to you needing mental health care, you make it as difficult as possible to get in touch with you in the first place. When I finally get through you tell me I need mental health care before I can get mental health care? After I repeatedly told them I was absolutely not going through that extra process - there was no immediate danger - I am not asking for an expedited appointment - I'm perfectly fine to wait my turn to see someone and establish on-going care she checked with a supervisor who said they'd still require an evaluation before they'd deign to assign me an appointment. When I came here to leave this review I was not one bit surprised to see how low of a rating and all the bad reviews. What's worse is it seems they don't care how bad their rating is because they're all still getting paid through government funds/grants. I left a job in which I worked at for 19 years and was very happy and secure in order to take a position at New Horizon Counseling Center. I can honestly say it was a great decision. New Horizon is a place to work if you want to grow in your career but you must be willing to work. They have high expectations of their staff no matter what level of employee you are. These expectations are modeled by the administration daily. The one thing is you have constant support from your supervisors and administration. The passion to help the community is evident and willingness to grow and adapt to the needs of the community is displayed daily. I have never been apart of a more unprofessional, and selfish company. Last week I realized I lost access to my work email. I contacted HR worried because I was set to return today from maternity leave. HR told me it was a mistake and confirmed my return date... Fast forward to this morning as I'm about to walk out the door for my shift after getting myself and the baby ready, I receive a phone call from HR telling me I have been terminated. My response obviously was "I confirmed my start date with you last week and you said I am okay to return" their response was then "yes we had to wait until you returned in order to officially terminate you." The company's slogan is "empowering indivials and strengthening communities." This is far from what this company does, and it is an absolute shame. I'm very saddened at the fact that I referred people in need to this place. The mental health field needs people that actually care about others, rather than wanting to pocket the grant money they receive and fire whoever they have to in order to do so. Instead they left a new mother without a job with an infant at home in a new apartment she just moved into and renovated, vet bills to last for years, and other financial burdens. If I could give this center -10 stars, I would. The therapists are quitting left and right at alarming rates. No one wants to risk their license working there. The center is disorganized and the staff are terrible. If you are considering going there, I'd exhaust all options first. They misdiagnosed my daughter based on protracted withdrawal symptoms from medication they prescribed. My daughter overdosed twice taking these meds "as prescribed." When I got involved and asked for a revision of the medications, there was no follow up, even after making arrangements with the psychiatrist and the director. When we got there the therapist pretended she didn't know what was going on. After seeing the Therapist we were sent to the waiting area to wait for the meeting with the team. Mind you we were initially told that it would have been one meeting involving the director, psychiatrist and therapist. After waiting for a while for the psychiatrist, in regards to the meds revision, we went to the desk to again inquire about the meeting. We were met with a very nasty attitude from the receptionist. The receptionist was having side bar conversation with a coworker, then told us there wasn't a meeting scheduled (Mind you the therapist who at first pretended she didn't know what was going on, later confirmed she got an email about the situation and requested/agreed upon meeting, and she was the one who told us to go to the waiting area and we would be called.) I should also mention that while we were with the therapist, her and another coworker were trying to coordinate the meeting however, there seemed to be an issue with doing so and they were very iffy about what was supposed to happen. At the point where the receptionist seemed to have some kind of preconceived opinion about what was taking place, and is now acting annoyed, and being very unprofessional, I said to my daughter I don't think this is the place for you I suggest you find somewhere else. As we were about to leave the psychiatrist and "director" came to the reception area and the said receptionist said that my daughter didn't want to wait and was leaving. Upon hearing this I turned back towards the area and asked her not to say that, because she was blatantly lying, as that was not the case. I encouraged my daughter to find a different psychiatrist and therapist because based on everything leading up the the overdose and many other unprofessional experiences I didn't feel comfortable about the care she was receiving. Bottom line; they were mostly interested in pushing medication and upping dosage for what started out as my daughter seeking assistance for anxiety and depression. My daughter is now going through the most difficult situation of her life. I'm actually on FMLA due to the struggles my daughter is now having with benzodiazepines withdrawal. To be clear we are not against medication when it's needed and we tried to get the psychiatrist to review the entire case/medications but I guess we were asking for too much. I wish there was a way not to give a star for this review, just know that the 1 star I'm giving is a negative 1 star - for New Horizons at Valley Stream. read more

I don't know about any other New Horizon Counseling center but the one in Far Rockaway is the best. They have a worker there named Cindy Zayas who stays in touch with you and makes sure she helps you with anything that you need. I can tell that she creates a wonderful environment to work in by the way her coworkers respect her there. We need more places like this when you need help with housing, work, medical situations, and appointments. She even visited my home to make sure I was getting the help that I needed. Little did she know that I was depressed and happy to see her. The people there are very respectful. Cindy was a big stepping stone in helping me change my life. I wish we had more workers that cared like her. read more

Two days ago my daughter was taken to the hospital, because of the medication that New Horizon, has been giving her. They had her on 6 different prescriptions. It got to the point were she was slurring her words, and had been hallucinating, as a result of the drugs. In 3 years they never saw her, but continued to prescribe these drugs. I warned them to stop prescribing medication for her, it went on deaf ears. I called to speak with a woman by the name of Anastasia, but she's never in when I call, and they never call you back. This is the person who is prescribing all that poison. One day my wife was lucky to talk this Anastasia, When she told her how my daughter was acting up, she replied call 911, after doing all the damage, now they drop it into our laps like it's are fault this happen. I'm going to contact the dept. of health, and the news media to have these people shut down. Was warned by at least one patient about the therapist that I was assigned to see. Although she seemed compassionate, several times I felt as if she was not actually listening to me, but filling out the Green review forms, with the future plan for my care. More than once I told her I did not agree with what she wrote. While I felt I had accomplished my goals for coming to therapy, she wrote things that I did not say and did not feel. In the end, I explained that I was planning on moving, but if course I'd let her know when the time came. I saw my nurse practitioner for my medication in January and when I went back for my refill, I was informed by a supervisor that Shola had closed my files!?!?!? I was not contacted prior to her closing my case, nor was I notified that I would need to find another therapist so I could continue my meds! Stopping anti depressants without tapering off is detrimental to my health and I find it not only unprofessional and uncaring but bordering on Malpractice!!! I am filing a complaint with the AMA in hopes that this never happens to another patient and hopefully they'll find another facility to visit. read more

She won't even speak to you, she just looks at you and points to you with her fingers to go to the next window, like you an animal. You call the front desk and they claim they are sending messages to the doctors but they really are not. I never got a call back and the young lady claimed she knew who was calling without even asking for patient's name. The Doctor is very incompetent, She never called me when I need it her advice and all she did was complain about the short amount of time she had and didn't allow me to speak to her. The direct is another one that doesn't even deserves to be mentioned. He was unwilling to assist when I brought it up to him. He has no sympathy and like his staff very unprofessional. It's sad that these type of individuals are caring for people with mental issues. please do not go there and if you do and you not treated right... report it. This facility should be closedown. This centre during a pandemic is non Responsive to the client mental needs. They are Denying services because I have a bill of 175.00. Three months went by before they told me. To make matter worst they take advantage of the client by never giving a current balance when you pay them. Later you still have a high balance and you have no real way of keeping up with your payment! Right now we need our mental health care! They just don't care! read more

High turn over rate of counselors. My son has had 4 in 2 years, all of them quit abruptly and each time the center did not notify us. We have showed up for appointments numerous times to be told the counselor is out, no one called. They say they will call you back but they don't. My son's counselor quit, we were not told. When we called they said we would be given another counselor, I waited but I never heard back. A week later I called and found out that while I was waiting for a new counselor, they dropped my son as a patient, his case was closed because he hadn't seen a counselor (when he was waiting to be assigned a counselor knowing this would cause a severe health problem for an 8 year old who already has health issues. Their records are inaccurate, they claim we weren't there on a day that we were, which I have proof of yet they refused to correct it. The justification I was given for my son being dropped as a patient, which we were not notified of, was that in their opinion we should go to a center that is closer to us, yet they didn't know we were not as close until a week after he was dropped. After I questioned her on her reason for dropping him, being that how long I drive for doctors is not her choice to make, she then told me it was due to attendance because he missed sessions in July. I asked how July was relevant to now because in 6 months he missed 3 sessions due to valid reasons and when he missed sessions in July it was because he had coxsackie. She said she believes that if we lived closer he wouldn't have missed the sessions (despite being sick, which there is proof of). I told her I would file a lawsuit and she then told me my son would be referred to another place and he was discharged for his own benefit. She knew that going to a new place would require him applying and completing the intake process again, which would cause a major lapse in medication and hospitalize an 8 year old for withdrawal. The clinical director Nitza, also told me my son needs a re-eval because now he has depression and anxiety (she has never met my son). I said "thank you for informing me that my son has anxiety and depression. She realized what she stated and quickly tried to twist and back talk her way out of it. She also said it is not up to the doctors to make decisions for patients, including whether they should be seen remotely or in person, she stated that it's up to her because she controls the doctors. Nitza is fully aware that she does not have a legal valid reason to discharge my son and her actions are endangering the safety of a child by knowingly and intentionally causing him to withdraw from medications that are unsafe to be stopped abruptly. I was told by a doctor that he was entitled to one last appointment to protect him from withdrawal, which they did not grant. They have no validity in dropping my son as a patient, they claim it's due to his attendance from 6 months ago when he had coxsackie. They claim to have made attempts to reach me, which my phone records proved false. They claim I wasnt there on a certain date, which I have proof in a text from that day that I was there. Their claim is false. They said they notified me by sending a letter to an old invalid address, which I updated with them TWICE. The director does not care about hurting patients who are children and has intentionally put my 8 year old son in medical danger while also denying him of much needed counseling for his condition for no reason other than her own power trip. I'm astounded by the poor reviews of New Horizon Counseling Center. They have helped save my life. I know that they have different treatment programs for different problems. I can tell you that their substance abuse program (3rd floor) for alcohol and chemical dependency is amazing. Their therapists and counselors are not only well trained but show real compassion and unique understanding of what addiction is all about. In my humble opinion, if you or, someone you care about, have a problem with alcohol or any other drug dependency and want to change your life for the better, this is definitely a place you should consider. Maybe the poor reviews are from folks that are in one of their other programs for other issues. I took my 10 year old hear hoping for answers and treatment as he has a diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety. I wanted to get the psychological eval input without telling her his diagnosis on what she thought. Through a 15 minute Tele health session. She said he has ADHD and has to be on medication in order to receive counseling. I ask for another psychological eval and this one was better however months went by I was told the same to the point we tried 3 different medication and I saw how my son was feeling I took him off and nvlever had him take it again. I was assigned another psych provider and I thought everything was going good until unprofessional not returning email or calls and he prescribed my son for medication and no follow up and son took it for two weeks which was okay at the time. I've called the front desk complained ask to speak to the the director nitza, no follow up, ask to speak to supervisor and explain how dissapointed and unhappy with how the psyc provider was unprofessional had 3 session cancel on us which caused my son major stress as he did not see his counselor those days, no follow up, no reschedule, no responds to email and then your the provider that wants to prescribe my child meds no thank you I asked for a switch and it's been one month no switch although my son does not see him but they never did a change or follow up with my complain. my son likes his counselor so for now he will see him however I made the decision that I will find him another facility. the front desk unprofessional, the provider cares less about your child. Sessions were always rushed but now that I read other reviews I understand why. It's tough when your child has a diagnosis and not having a proper team does not help the situation. Do not send your child here. my son always has his counseling session via telehealth and my husband and i qas shock when we went there in person and saw how all the patients look heavily medicaided.
