Those people showed me more compassion in three days than I had received from my family in my entire life. Thank you, PACU staff, for helping me feel safe again. Also very good food for being a psych ward. Amazing service and I'm glad the Guidance Center was there for me.

In May 2024, I was placed on a 72-hour hold at The Guidance Center's PAC unit. During that brief…read morestay, my civil rights were violated. I was physically restrained while calmly sitting on the floor, holding my service dog. I was not aggressive or disruptive--I was asking that my dog be kept safe. My rights as a service animal handler were ignored. Despite clear signs of tachycardia and chest pain radiating into my jaw, I was denied medical care inside a licensed facility. These experiences, along with others I won't detail here, led me to file multiple legal complaints. I'm not seeking money--I'm seeking change. As a peer and person with serious mental illness, I tried to work with TGC on solutions--trauma-informed care, improved training, and meaningful inclusion of peer voices. I was shut out. For now, I've chosen to pause additional complaints, hoping for change instead of escalation. What I'm asking for is simple: Evidence-based suicide assessment training Trauma-informed care across all services De-escalation training for inpatient staff Peer and family inclusion in policy and planning Those of us receiving services deserve to be heard. We live the reality. Our voices matter. This isn't about blame--it's about doing better. I'm not hiding. I'll keep telling my story until change comes. I especially appreciated the faith-based approach to the sessions, which made a huge difference in my journey. Abigail is a deeply caring person, and I cannot recommend her highly enough!

This review is regarding Abbigail Pederson at Rediant Light Counseling…read more When someone conducts themselves in personal settings in a way that is completely at odds with the professional services they advertise, especially services involving children, it raises serious concerns. During a large school event where Abbigail was engaging positively with students by giving them high-fives, she repeatedly ignored one child's multiple attempts to be included, while continuing to acknowledge other children sitting right beside them. The child was left visibly upset, embarrassed, and confused in front of his peers. That child was our twelve-year-old son. At the time, he was so hurt by the incident that he quit the after-school club activity, and I stopped volunteering as the leader of the group as well, despite the team winning locally and getting ready to compete at state. Additionally, because of what we witnessed, and after learning she was affiliated with the counseling center we were taking our son to, we no longer felt that setting was emotionally safe for him and chose not to return. I am sharing this publicly now because, during my son's recent intensive therapy related to long-term medical trauma and chronic pain, this incident resurfaced through EMDR as having been far more emotionally damaging than we realized at the time. If I was a parent considering Abbigail for my child's therapy, I would want to know about this side of her and the impact it's had on another child. Abbigail's professional messaging emphasizes "helping people thrive". but for me it's difficult to reconcile that message with behavior that was so dismissive, publicly humiliating, and so lacking in empathy towards a child. While this occurred outside of a clinical setting, it raised serious concerns for me about the empathy, judgment, and the emotional safety one would expect from someone working with vulnerable children. 3/26/26 - Update to response - The school was never involved in this matter. We were never contacted by Abigail to discuss her clear concerns about our son or her actions towards him. The offer from Abigail's former employer would not allow our son to be involved. He wanted to know directly what he had done to explain being left out and, given, his hurt we felt that it was important for him to be heard and present in the discussion and they would not allow it. The incident was between Abigail and our son and therefore they both should be present for productive resolution. I feel my initial review fully explains how this incident directly relates to her work as a therapist. This is just our experience with her - any potential or existing client can draw their own conclusions on what is right for their family and children.
