June 22/2026: Breakfast with Mark Stirling. What a huge breakfast! It was eggs, potatoes with a massive meat presence. It was bacon, ham, sausage & bologna! All were very delicious! Consistently good food and large portions, best place to go if you're REALLY hungry !

Service was deplorable. Waited for our server to even come to our table. Finally arrived. ordered 2 teas. asked for milk and sugar. 2 glasses of water. waited and waited. She showed up to take our order and mentioned the tea. waited. again nothing. Another ridiculous wait. we thought about just leaving more then once. Food finally arrived. Cold. She delivered the tea at the same time.... No milk. No sugar. Had to go get the milk ourselves. Forgot the sugar and weren't about to search someone out again. NO spoons. stirred them with our forks. No checking in to see how food was. Finished the awful meal and waited and waited for the server to bring a bill. Had to go to the cash to pay there. I am a gay man and I know EXACTLY what happened. She should be fired. I will not go to any Big Stop again. Shame on New Minas Big Stop for even hiring her. read more

Whenever I come home to the maritimes I always make at least one trip to the New Minas big stop. The food and service is always good and consistent. Nice ambiance but bring a sweater as it is ALWAYS cold inside. read more

We were at big stop rest. In new minas this morning and had to leave in the middle of our meal due to the fact there was no use of the washrooms now who in the hell would open resteraunt with no restrooms thank you for the cold breakfast new minas bigstop read more

Very disappointing for an Irving Big Stop. The whole experience started off on the wrong foot and went downhill from there. We've come to expect nice clean washrooms from Irving, but this was not the case at this big stop. I will usually judge an establishments cleanliness from the state of their facilities. Gross. We even mentioned it to the person at the counter and simply received a casual shrug. We were the only ones in the dining room, granted it was at 9:30pm. The 2 staff where sitting in a booth chatting the entire time we where there, and not quietly. Meal tasted good, but was literally thrown in the plate. My burger had fries thrown on top and the toppings where old and mushy. I don't expect a huge presentation when it comes to truck stop food, but surely a little care would be nice. Next time I'm down this way hopefully something else will be open in town. read more

We were a family of 5 at the restaurant on Sunday, June 10th around 1:30 pm. We were able to be seated fairly quickly (5 minutes I believe). I ordered the philly steak sandwich and fries. BIG MISTAKE! First off, Should have been called the vegetarian sandwich. I couldn't find any meat in the sandwich (well a little bit within the mass of onions, green pepper and bun). Good thing I love onions and GP. The fries took up 60% of the plate and the bun took up the remainder of the plate. It was also swimming in BBQ sauce - I think to mask the fact there was only about an ounce of meat in the sandwich. I was at this restaurant about 2 months ago and had the club house. At the time I thought not good - but figured they had an off day. Don't think so anymore. I will give this location a miss when in New Minas the next time. read more

Excellent fast service. The food was great and the waitress was even better. I don't get to eat here often but when I do I always enjoy it.

Flour Sauce: Excellent Yelp: There was indeed one Yelp. My lady and I were shown to a booth in the more opulent section of the Le Gros Stop restaurant, beneath a lovely mass-produced print of some random lighthouse that hung upon the wall. The service was excellent. I ordered the Sandwiche Chaud au Dinde avec Sauce de Fleurs, and it was not undisappointing. While most fine dining establishments offer a teak or ebony tinted gravy on the sandwiche, the Chef prepared a truly delicate and pale Flour Sauce that perfectly matched the taupe shade of the plate (and the wall). After a long day of driving, the absence of colour (and flavour) in the Flour Sauce soothed the soul. It took me back to my childhood, when I played with homemade flour and water paste and, with curiosity and wonder, tasted it....and gagged. I was swept into the nostalgic reverie until, to my horror, a fellow patron sitting at a nearby table barked at most unusual sound seemingly without cause. I tried in vain to not stare at the poor fellow, assuming he suffered most unfortunately from Tourette's or perhaps experienced difficulty with a chicken bone that became lodged in his throat. After my third or fourth glance, assured he was not going to yelp yet once more, I returned to the business of ingestion. We paid the bill, left a generous tip, and got the heck out. read more

I have ate at the Irving in New Minas many times, everytime has been enjoyable. All of the waitress's are very polite and attentive. The food is always fantasic. I have a favorite i get every single time i go. Although it is a very busy place and a few times i have waited in line for a while, but to me its understandable saying its right on the exit. I hope this encourages people to be understanding of busy resturants and if its worth the wait, you certianly will wait, Ans for New Minas Big Stop i will wait! read more

went to our usual coffee spot above, upon arriving the lineup was back to door, but the crowd became less as we ate our meal. We usually stay and chat for a while after meal. So there was a small line about 8 people waiting to be seated and there were tables and booths available, but waitress came and asked us to leave because they had line up. 6-8 people is not a line up. we are regulars, i'm a little upset. read more

Horrible Service! My boyfriend and I stopped in this morning on our way back to Halifax and the food was the only good part of our experience. I'm a server and have been for 9 years, and our server needed some serious tips. Here's the story: We went in and sat ourselves, as the sign said, there were maybe 6 tables in the whole restaurant at this point. A woman by the name of Heather came over with menus and very coldly said, "Hi, how are you, coffee?", to which I made sure I replied in an extra friendly response. I immediately felt I was burdening her just by being there. She came back with drinks and said, "what can I get you", I was slightly surprised she didn't ask us first if we needed a few more minutes as we had only been looking for a few moments. I placed my order and then my partner did, he passed her his menu and i was quickly reading another menu item description before I was going to hand it back to her, at which point she took it right out of my hands and walked away, instead of asking if she could have it or if I wanted to keep it for a bit to peruse it. Meals come, she leaves, we start to eat, she comes back and asks how things are to which I replied "delicious!", but I doubt she heard me because she didn't actually stop to wait for a response. She never asked if I wanted more coffee, ever and never asked my partner if he wanted more water, so he had to drink mine. Here comes the real kicker! I finish my meal first because I Hoover all my food in 5 seconds and my partner was still working on his, I pushed my plate to the side and carried on my conversation and drank my coffee, she approaches the table in front of us, clears plates and hands them their bill, normal obviously. She then comes to us and asks us if we want anything else....my partner was only about half way done his meal...we responded "No", she asks, "separate or together" to which we replied "together", and she placed our bill on our table, said we could pay upfront and walked away. I was dumbfounded. NEVER do you bill a table in the middle of their meals unless they request it because they are in a rush! I gave her the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe her shift was ending so she wanted her tables to settle up, if that was the case she still should have explained that and explained that we can settle up with her but we're welcome to stay and another server can get us anything else we need. Except that wasn't the case though because I watched her go and take orders from tables that had just sat down. As soon as he finished we went up to pay, she was so nice to us at the cash (shocker). We paid, she got more of a tip than she deserved. It wasn't busy, All Heather needed to do to double that tip, was be nice, make conversation with us and spend an extra 30 seconds making sure we were okay with our beverages, she most certainly had the time. We will think twice about stopping there next time we are in town visiting. read more

Me and my husband ate at Big Stop on April 3rd , he had cheese burger deluxe which was good . I had 2 piece fish & fries , the fries were ok but the batter around the small pieces of fish was soggy and gross and full of grease . I told the lady when we paid and that she should tell the cook . read more
