While on the resort though, I did like how the lodging looked. If I were to go back I definitely would instead just go ahead and stay on the mountain resort because driving through the woods / mountain to get to and from the resort to the air bnb was not fun at all; especially at night! Snow tubing: we went snow tubing during the night time. There weren't too many other people there during this time, so the line to keep tubing over and over wasn't much of a wait at all. I give the experience a 10/10 overall. It was fun and different. Snowboarding: when we first got into all our gear and equipment, we were just told to go outside. We were all under the impression that we would receive a tutorial or instructional presentation about first time snowboarding, but that did NOT happen. Had entirely no clue there was even a "practice" area until after I slipped and fell on the ice and my snowboard went flying down the mountain and into the woods. I went and got help from the emergency team who then informed us that there was a practice area to go to first. I ended up staying in that practice area the whole time and completely wasted my money on having a ski lift ticket. I thought a practice area would've been at the bottom of the mountain where we'd start at, so the ski lift ticket would be needed once you're comfortable and can go ski/snowboard from the very top but no, u start at (like get on the actual slope at) and the practice area are both mid - mountain. Overall the experience was a 7/10. It's possible I'll give Snowshoe another try in the future now that I've experienced what it's like. My overall rate of experience : 7/10

You can book your reservation and sign your waivers online prior to arrival and then all you have to do is walk to the lodge area and get your lift tickets. You can book an all day pass or a selected 3 hour window. We opted for a window from 1200pm until 245pm. Note, the road to the resort has some pot holes and the parking lot is a gravel lot that is about a ten minute walk to the lodge. There is a shuttle that will drive you from the lot to the lodge but it fills up real quick. Once you get your pass you just walk out the door to the hill for tubing. The hill has eight to ten runs (a few were down bc the snow was melting). You will have to find a tube at the bottom or ask the staff for more. There is a lift to the top of the hill but the top was a little chaotic bc there was no staff up there keeping order and people will cut in or hold a lane. The run is pretty fast and it is a fun run down the hill. We were able to go 20-30 times in a three hour window with a break for a snack. The slope is equipped with snow makers but if they are on, they will blow snow and ice all over you (so goggles or glasses is a must). Good family adventure. They also offer skiing and snow boarding.

There are ample staff, and everyone was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed everything we ate, from the quick serve breakfasts and sandwiches at Martha's cafe, to dinners at Woody's, the breakfast buffet, and the gala dinner. It was always easy to find something to eat or drink, with various levels of service/formality. The gym is well appointed, and we really enjoyed the outdoor pool and hot tub. The afternoon tea and cookies is very crowded, but fun. The evening movie was a fun activity, with popcorn and nice seating . One thing I really liked was the number of occupied public spaces. The lobby/foyer has live music in the evenings, occasional tea and coffee service, couches and fireplaces. The Christmas decorations were just gorgeous. We enjoyed walking around to see them all. We also really liked the vibes in the Presidential Lounge and had drinks there on several occasions, taking our time. We are not fancy people, and did find the hotel rather expensive, and definitely still felt nickeled and dimed at times. There is no included food/beverages, and only part of the complex is available/included in your cost. We were able to use part of the outdoor pool, and the indoor pool and fitness center. The mineral pools, onsite and off, are additional fees, as are all meals, most coffee, etc. Parking is not included, and is valet only. There are numerous daily activities, most of which are an additional charge. Many did look enjoyable, but we opted out of the $75 bourbon tasting and $75 yoga classes. When the Omni is on, they are ON, but, to my point above, once they start to miss, they just kind of shrug it off and the mistakes feel expensive. My date had bought me a massage, which came with a spa day pass, which is the only way to use the spa garden and on site springs. We didn't realize at first that I already had a day pass, so we went ahead and purchased one for him to enjoy the facilities as well. On our spa day, the hot water was out, which meant that a decent number of the indoor facilities were not enjoyable. There were no discounts or alternatives offered, just kind of - it's not working. We still had a very nice spa day, but would have enjoyed the indoor showers, and actually, showering off, in January, in cold water after using the mineral springs, was not fun. When we ordered room service, half of our order was forgotten, and again, we were presented with a brief apology and the full bill, even though it took an additional 20 minutes for the food to arrive and I had finished eating mine by then. The most stressful error was when the bell staff dropped the garment bag containing my black tie dress on the floor in the hall, and we found it there when we came back to the room! I was really upset about that, though we didn't call the desk as we were tired and I did have the dress in the end, but this could have ended quite differently. I will also say that the walls are PAPER thin. A rather loud family occupied the room next to us for part of our stay and we could hear EVERYTHING. The historic property is just lovely, and the service was really nice. If we were to return, we would likely stay for a shorter visit, but it was definitely worth a trip.

Yet, we found that the hotel was significantly overpriced, poorly serviced, and much more geared towards kids than couples. The Service Nearly every interaction we had with the front desk felt like we were inconveniencing them. From the moment we walked in, my partner and I walked up to the front desk with two employees. The one briefly looked up at us and then returned to what she was doing. We stood there for a bit before I asked if there was someone who would be able to assist us for check-in. The next morning, we walked by and that same employee was leaning up against the wall staring up at the ceiling - it looked like she would rather be anywhere else than working at that front desk. It was not a helpful, four star experience in any way. The final straw for us was when we were checking out, and one of the Room Controllers (seems like a supervisor role) Patrick, was called over to try to help us with a question we had about a charge we saw on our bill. When asking if he could help us understand the activity fee listed that wasn't clear what it was connected to, he said he could look into it more but it would take over an hour to do. When we pushed if that was actually the case, he said "do you know how many people have stayed at this hotel over the past weekend," in reference to the number of tickets he would have to go through in order to answer our basic questions. Seems hard to believe a resort like this couldn't tell you what a charge on your bill is - and of course that wasn't the case. Turns out theres is a drop down that provides all the details. We weren't trying to nickel and dime here, just understand a charge that was not clearly tied to an activity. After he realized there was a drop-down and it would not take an hour to answer our question, he became significantly more friendly. Cleanliness Our room had stains on several surfaces, most noticeably on the pillows. The tub was also significantly rusted around the drain and there were two long hairs on the shower wall from previous guests that we found before using the shower. Food The food in Jefferson's was bad, especially at the price. I had eaten here before and did not remember it being so terrible. I would consider it the most overpriced meal we've had. We ordered an 8 oz steak, lobster tail, wedge salad, and spoon bread. The steak was 1) not 8 oz and 2) not cooked to order, the lobster was rubbery, the salad was soaked in dressing, and the bread brought with our meal appeared stale as if it had been sitting out for hours if not days. The Fees Everything includes an extra fee. We were fine with the cost of it, but the additional charges aren't an inconsequential amount and honestly it's clear that the fees are just a way to show a lower price when you're booking things. The one that really stood out to us was the spa "service fee" which was 22%, and which part of it went to the massage therapist - but the front desk at the spa couldn't tell us how much. We were told that this specifically was not a tip, and were expected to tip on top of the 22% fee. To make matters worse, our "50 minute massage" was not 50 minutes - we have texts we spent before and after the service from the room that shows it was closer to 45 minutes. To be clear, we were on time and completed the paperwork well before the start time - so it was not a matter of us being late to the appointment. Activities A quick note - our experience with all restaurant staff, interns, seasonal workers, and especially those leading activities was very good. Archery was fantastic, the hot springs were peaceful and unique, and the hike had a very knowledgeable guide. The guides for Archery (the intern from Virginia Tech and Ahmet) were incredibly helpful and friendly. Our activities were not without frustration though - when we showed up to our 9am archery reservation, we were met by the intern who said her boss was not here so we couldn't get into the building. So we stood out in the rain until management showed up to unlock the door. We would recommend part of our 20% activity fee on top of the cost of the activity go toward cutting an extra key so future guests don't have to wait in the rain.

The Lodge was so comfortable and hosts, David and Ginger McDonald, were so friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect respite from a tiresome and anxiety filled week of packing for a move. I slept like a baby in a bed so comfy I wanted to take it home. Although it was rainy and the fog kept us from exploring outdoors the warm ambiance inside the lodge and time spent with family made this a sweet and memorable experience. The lodge has been there for quite a while but David and Ginger, the new owners, are determined to make it a haven for guests and a destination for the area. They went out of their way to welcome us...even offering to drive down the mountain thru heavy fog to pick up our dinner we ordered! Totally unexpected and certainly above and beyond the duty of a host! Loved it! Can't wait to find an excuse to visit again.

It's located in downtown with metered street parking free Monday-Saturday nights after 6pm and all of Sunday. Luckily, we were able to find a spot easily. Inside was modern and relatively clean. We had to wait a little bit to be seated as they were pretty busy; however, this place had a decent amount of seating and space. Service was good overall, but it wasn't as consistent as I would've liked for actions such as water refills, asking for extra napkins, etc. This was partly because they were very busy that night. They have a variety of food options - apps, salads, sandwiches, pies (pizzas), and dessert. We ended up ordering a large pizza (thin crust) to split - half Thai and half Chicken Gouda. Both were yummy although the crust was a tad burnt - nothing bad to the extent that taking bites were an effort. Overall, I preferred the Thai since I've never come across a Thai style pizza and I could really taste the curry sauce. The only downside of the Thai was that the shrimp were slightly overcooked, which could be potentially explained by us ordering a pizza split in two styles with them cooking the entire pizza evenly versus what is needed for each ingredient. We finished the entire pizza between the two of us, but I could see someone having some leftovers. If possible, they might want to do some minor pest management. The entire time of our visit a fruit fly or gnat was hovering around us and the food. We tried to catch it and protect the food, only for it to ultimately take a permanent dip in my water. My overall assessment was that it was a good place to try in the city. It's not something I would crave, but I wouldn't mind coming back again if I was in the area.

Beckley surprised us once again, this spot turned out to be such a delicious treasure that we kept coming back like well-trained food pilgrims. The food was fantastic. Truly. Some of the best chicken shawarma, hummus, and tabouli I've had in ages, fresh, flavorful, and made with clear love. The kind of meal that makes your tired hiking muscles perk up and whisper, "Oh yes, this is the good life." Service was friendly, warm, and helpful with recommendations, the kind of staff who genuinely wants you to enjoy what you order. Honestly, I found myself wishing we had a place like this back home so I could grab big platters for a party and impress everyone without lifting a finger. A traveler can dream. Anna was very welcoming and even baked us cookies as a welcome present. The cabin was spacious enough for us two, and the hot tub was the main attraction. We loved the fireplace, especially in 20-30 degree weather, sitting by the fireplace reading was our nightly routine. There are a lot of hikes and attractions nearby to do during the day, so no worries about getting bored. The cabin had all the utilities we could need, plenty of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and everything you could possibly need in the fully working kitchen. Overall we spent a very relaxing week and can't wait to come back when it's warmer!
