We ordered our lift tickets in advance for Monday and Tuesday. The staff let us pick up our gear Sunday, after 7 pm. This saved so much time!!! Our crew was ready to hit the slopes first thing Monday. Our youngest, age 7, had an absolute blast at ski school on Monday. I highly recommend!!! This was his second time skiing and he came out of their ski school with no fear and great confidence. The staff was friendly and made the experience a memorable one for the kids!!! Well worth every penny!!!! Oldest son and hubby thought they had great slopes, easy to challenging. No complaints from them. Our oldest will usually want to stay til closing and he was exhausted by day two. Hubby said they had a good variety in types of slopes and skill levels. Hubby also said their bunny slope was perfect for our 7 year old before hitting the bigger slopes. If ordering a beer at the bar the wait is slow. Bar service was consistently slow, despite its simplicity. But, a cold beer is worth the wait; I guess. Staff seemed engaging and aware of what's going. Our youngest got his skis crossed and "fell" when the lift came around (Mom wasn't there!!!) and the staff safely ensured he made it on the lift and met Dad/brother at the top. This is what kept my husband from getting the wrath of Angry Momma Bear!!!! Both of our kids requested to go back next year!

Highly recommend- we had so much fun! Went snow tubing and can't wait to go back to ski! Super nice staff in the shop and on the slopes, clean place, great experience. Shuttle service from parking lot included. Definitely going back ASAP!

Low snowmaking

overall, the experience was pretty horrible. Some of the suggestions may not apply if the temperature is above 74 and they're not blowing. First off the blowers are too low. You are completely covered in ice whole entire clothes. You're like a big ice snowman at the end. goggles don't help. skiing to the top is a very painful process to get over to the ski lift from the middle of the mountain down to the bottom or the snow tubing part is. The cafeteria food was pretty bad. Got a hamburger that didn't taste good at all, even the chees, couldn't even taste it. The cafeteria staff was nice. The rental ski section is OK no issues or problems. They're very unlimited in their inventory for snowboarding. We got up there and both pairs of shoes were out. Had to go up two sizes and down one size. The terrain was very icy plus with the blowers being so low, we had pull-ups of fake ice that caused us to slow down during the slopes. You could not see anyway.

Great trails here at Winterplace. Even without much snow there is still plenty of slopes to enjoy. There are only a couple lifts that split the mountain into two. This is a great place for beginners

My very first snowboarding trip! We happened to go on MLK weekend, which was the busiest weekend possible. There were church groups everyWhere, which made it challenging to learn to snowboard and without smacking into someone. They were sold out of private lessons, so I opted for a group lesson. The beginning was very disorganized, but they finally broke our group into smaller groups and I was paired with an instructor, Jonathan. He did his best to give us personalized attention, and was very helpful. I would suggest breaking into even smaller groups, maybe 5 people instead of 7? Jonathan tried his best to speak up enough so everyone could hear him. There were so many people on the bunny hill that it was really challenging. The hills themselves are great. It was rainy and slushy by the end of our first day, but it was still just fine. Actually, that made the falls hurt a bit less. On the second day, we had gotten a bit of snow, and they resort also created a bunch of snow. The snowboarding conditions were WAY better the second day! There were still just as many people, but it was easier to avoid them with the right kind of snow. They were intermittently shutting down courses to make more snow - which sometimes forced you to take a more challenging slope than you expected. Finally, when snowboarding for the whole day, I truly wish the cafe options were better. The cafes are licensed restaurants, so no outside food is allowed in. I would liken the options to public high school cafeteria food. Frozen curly fries, cheese burgers that are somehow formed into a weird square.... all things I'd never eat if I weren't trapped somewhere I'm not allowed to bring my own food. Next time I will definitely bring my own snacks and eat them while in the chair lift or something. Overall, it was a really fun exper

I'm not a ski kinda guy so I can't say if the slopes are good or not. I can say the tubing was fun. The place seems a bit dated and could use some sprucing up a bit but it's not bad. Maybe adding a few more amenities for us non ski folks. I'm sure people would pay for more things to do. Maybe a game room and a full bar. I'll be bringing more kids back next season for sure.

I'm a newbie to snow skiing so Winterplace is a great place to come out for quite a few different run styles for my level. There are also harder runs for more experienced skiers so it does seem like there is something for everyone. Not all of the slopes were open this visit, though, but there were enough to keep us entertained from 11am to 5pm for sure. Oh but now that I think of it, I didn't notice technical runs or trick runs for the snowboarders...did I miss them or are they not available? There is plenty of parking with lot attendants to guide you and you don't have to walk too far to get to the ski center. We were a bit confused trying to figure out where to go to get lift tickets, though. We followed people in and stood in what looked like a long, slow line...turns out we were in the rental line. Luckily we had already rented my gear from the Ski Barn (recommend! Quick service there! And very close and you can also buy other gear!) so we stepped out of this line and went toward the "lift ticket only" line which was in a slightly different area. The line was pretty short and quick and they have a military discount. Lift ticket stickers in hand..we notIced a small metal hanger on a nearby table that you're supposed to use with the stickers to hang them from your jacket. And onward from there we found a locker room area with mostly small lockers that would no way have fit my stuff. And I think you have to use coins to rent them, so where do you get coins from? Maybe I just missed it ...there was a lot of newness going on for me. I think there were also some larger lockers to rent and a section of large cubbies to use. Now geared up and ready to go! We had left our skis and poles outside where my friends husband dropped them off for us in the pickup turnaround. Clonking around in our snow boots we had to walk up a flight of stairs with all of our stuff. We had the resort map with us hidden in one of our pockets so just winged it the first time and hoped that we would pick the right lift to start off with.At the lifts you can read on the signs what kind of runs you will be taken to. We asked while boarding the lift which run to take and were told something that would have been good had we understood exactly where they were describing. Instead we found a run with a steeper start..so there you go, I got my first fall out of the way in the first minute! After that we tried another lift and had a better experience and eventually found the map and figured out how to read it. Without a map, it seemed a bit difficult to me to know if I was doing the right thing for my skill level. But again, I'm a newbie so maybe things are more obvious to others if you've done it more often. We lucked out with it being cold enough to snow the day before and they had made some snow through the week. What a cool thing and we are so very lucky they can do that for us skiers in this part of the world. Finally decided to take a break for lunch and have to say that experience was just so-so. If you didn't wipe out on the slippery cafeteria flooring, that was a plus. My salad was fine but my friend wasn't totally thrilled with the hot dog and how long it took to make. Be careful in the bathrooms, too, with that same flooring. It's a fun slippery ride but luckily they are small so you can quickly catch yourself on something to save from falling. There was a room with a bar area, so that could be fun for the adults if you're hanging out for a longer period of time. And there is another food option somewhere ... maybe it was a restaurant? Not sure as I didn't find it this trip. Maybe next time! Also to note is that the staff was all very nice and helpful so that was a great experience. And they have what looks like a great ski school but you have to pay extra for it so I didn't. I guess my post could sound like I didn't enjoy myself and that is not the case. I loved the skiing part, that was really fun! My overall visit was enjoyable and just fine. I just wanted to let you know the little pieces that were a bit surprising.

I probably booked around 10 or 11 PM, and called to ensure they were able to accommodate a late check-in after midnight. They said they could, and knowing that, along with the price, pushed me to book this room for a quick night's stay. The hotel is situated just off of the highway, but it is very secluded and serene. I stayed in a room not facing the water, but would like to return in the future and stay in a room with a water view. I loved the old charm of the place, the room keys, and how I was able to access my room from the ground level and park right outside the door. I believe the room I stayed in was a handicap room, given the bathroom setup. It was spacious and satisfactory for what I was needing. The room was clean and made up upon arrival. The essential toiletries - soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion - were provided. In the morning, there were both hot coffee and pastries available to grab and go in the lobby. The lobby had plenty of seating, and access to the on-site restaurant. The staff were friendly and accommodating the entire time I was there. I will definitely be returning to Skyline in the future. I would love to try the restaurant, and also stay on the water side of the resort. I am glad I stumbled upon this spot by happenstance, as we make this drive frequently and will be visiting again in the future!

New River Gorge National Park is really big so it's impossible to have a hotel close to every section. While on the resort though, I did like how the lodging looked. If I were to go back I definitely would instead just go ahead and stay on the mountain resort because driving through the woods / mountain to get to and from the resort to the air bnb was not fun at all; especially at night! Snow tubing: we went snow tubing during the night time. There weren't too many other people there during this time, so the line to keep tubing over and over wasn't much of a wait at all. I give the experience a 10/10 overall. It was fun and different. Snowboarding: when we first got into all our gear and equipment, we were just told to go outside. We were all under the impression that we would receive a tutorial or instructional presentation about first time snowboarding, but that did NOT happen. Had entirely no clue there was even a "practice" area until after I slipped and fell on the ice and my snowboard went flying down the mountain and into the woods. I went and got help from the emergency team who then informed us that there was a practice area to go to first. I ended up staying in that practice area the whole time and completely wasted my money on having a ski lift ticket. I thought a practice area would've been at the bottom of the mountain where we'd start at, so the ski lift ticket would be needed once you're comfortable and can go ski/snowboard from the very top but no, u start at (like get on the actual slope at) and the practice area are both mid - mountain. Overall the experience was a 7/10. It's possible I'll give Snowshoe another try in the future now that I've experienced what it's like. My overall rate of experience : 7/10

The Greenbrier

I want to preface this review by saying that we did not stay overnight in a room at The Greenbrier,…read morebut we did spend most of the day there, and I'm glad we did. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

Slouchy couches, stained carpet pulling away from the walls. The cheapest daily rack rate on a weekday is a whopping $400+/night, not including all their BS fees: $49 daily resort fee per room and 9.75% Historic Preservation Fund, 6% sales tax. SO NOT WORTH IT! Seriously, I get keeping the iconic Draper theme, but you gotta upkeep everything to warrant that price! I stayed here for 3 nights for a conference, and had multiple interactions with staff from calling to make reservations for activities, the bunker tour, dinner at the main dining room, bowling and the conference room facilities. Customer service ranged here from very nice, cheerful and helpful to unaccommodating, aloof, and just plain rude. When asked questions about the facility or amenities, the staff would often give me blank stares or just shrug and say they didn't know. I was checked in by a trainee who did not give any direction on how to get to my room in the BOONIES (Copeland Hills) and we drove around aimlessly until we gave up and went back to valet to get directions. When I asked if I could be in the main hotel with my coworker at check in, another snooty employee (senior or the trainer, I dunno) blatantly said "no, your group is assigned to the cottages", which was 100% a lie because my coworker simultaneously checked in with another trainee and was given a room in the main hotel. The next day, a second coworker was also given a room in the main hotel. They both complained their rooms were creepy feeling, dirty and in need of some major renovations. So I guess depending on how you look at it, I had it better since my cottage in the boonies wasn't as old and was in pretty good shape. The wait staff at the conference was too efficient! I left my untouched dessert literally for a few minutes at my seat and when I returned it was gone! My fiancé did the bunker tour and the bourbon tasting. He was the only one at the bourbon tasting at 5:00pm and no one showed up for the 6:00pm either. At the end, he was given a non itemized bill for $88 (the base price was $65) and then he tipped on top of the $88 thinking that was the base rate! Clearly the astronomical service fees were already embedded in there. Throughout our stay, we wondered where everyone was. Despite being reservation only, the main dining room was at best 25% full when we were there on a Friday night. Everywhere we went: basically empty. The many random sitting rooms, the restaurants, the casino, the bowling alley, indoor pool, the bars. The only activity that had a decent amount of people was the bunker tour. There were many private events we saw set up everywhere though, and our conference alone was about 300. So maybe that's their thing. My coworkers had mini fridges in their room in the main hotel, my room in the cottages did not. My coworker called room service for ice (there are no self service ice machines) and it was delivered 2 hours later when she was sleeping. The room service delivery fee is $5 for the main hotel, but $20 for my cottage in the boonies. Why do I have to pay 4x in delivery fees when I asked to be in the main hotel to begin with? Ridiculous. The Greenbrier is old and busted and riding on the "historic" factor to draw in guests. If I stayed here for leisure and paid for this out of my own pocket, I would be even more pissed.

It was handy having the strip mall so nearby as it contains a Kroger and a Walgreens, so you don't need to feel like you have to do a major shop. There are ample staff, and everyone was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed everything we ate, from the quick serve breakfasts and sandwiches at Martha's cafe, to dinners at Woody's, the breakfast buffet, and the gala dinner. It was always easy to find something to eat or drink, with various levels of service/formality. The gym is well appointed, and we really enjoyed the outdoor pool and hot tub. The afternoon tea and cookies is very crowded, but fun. The evening movie was a fun activity, with popcorn and nice seating . One thing I really liked was the number of occupied public spaces. The lobby/foyer has live music in the evenings, occasional tea and coffee service, couches and fireplaces. The Christmas decorations were just gorgeous. We enjoyed walking around to see them all. We also really liked the vibes in the Presidential Lounge and had drinks there on several occasions, taking our time. We are not fancy people, and did find the hotel rather expensive, and definitely still felt nickeled and dimed at times. There is no included food/beverages, and only part of the complex is available/included in your cost. We were able to use part of the outdoor pool, and the indoor pool and fitness center. The mineral pools, onsite and off, are additional fees, as are all meals, most coffee, etc. Parking is not included, and is valet only. There are numerous daily activities, most of which are an additional charge. Many did look enjoyable, but we opted out of the $75 bourbon tasting and $75 yoga classes. When the Omni is on, they are ON, but, to my point above, once they start to miss, they just kind of shrug it off and the mistakes feel expensive. We didn't realize at first that I already had a day pass, so we went ahead and purchased one for him to enjoy the facilities as well. On our spa day, the hot water was out, which meant that a decent number of the indoor facilities were not enjoyable. There were no discounts or alternatives offered, just kind of - it's not working. We still had a very nice spa day, but would have enjoyed the indoor showers, and actually, showering off, in January, in cold water after using the mineral springs, was not fun. When we ordered room service, half of our order was forgotten, and again, we were presented with a brief apology and the full bill, even though it took an additional 20 minutes for the food to arrive and I had finished eating mine by then. The most stressful error was when the bell staff dropped the garment bag containing my black tie dress on the floor in the hall, and we found it there when we came back to the room! I was really upset about that, though we didn't call the desk as we were tired and I did have the dress in the end, but this could have ended quite differently. I will also say that the walls are PAPER thin. A rather loud family occupied the room next to us for part of our stay and we could hear EVERYTHING. The historic property is just lovely, and the service was really nice. If we were to return, we would likely stay for a shorter visit, but it was definitely worth a trip.

As a nearby local born and raised (Botetourt Co. hey), I remember driving past this beautiful…read moreresort and pressing my face to the windows to look on the school bus when we played Bath. Co. in volleyball. My husband wanted to come for a weekend getaway after Christmas and I was game. He's not from VA so I was looking forward to showing him around. I've visited for the day once almost 20 years ago and had lunch. This is a huge resort - and a lot of the amenities weren't really accessible to us that are outdoors - but, they did still have the heated outdoor and indoor spa pools open, ice skating, and some other things. My husband really wanted to try to ski or do snow tubing but none of that is open. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays and they had trees everywhere - I probably saw over 25 trees and didn't even see them all - my baby girl loved exploring and running around the resort. They have a lot of activities throughout the day for children and families including evening entertainment in the lobby, children's activities, a photographer taking family portraits, game rooms, and multiple restaurants and shops. It is expensive to stay here - it's billed as a luxury resort - and it is beautiful, but it's in the actual middle of nowhere essentially and is a long drive on winding country roads. It's charming, but somewhat isolated and feels like a remnant of a bygone era. The spa building smelled awful, there was a lot of disarray there by the entrance, and the walkways and stairways aren't handicap/stroller accessible and several elevators weren't working making it difficult to navigate this huge resort easily/quickly to walk around with a stroller/toddler. Staff were hit or miss - staff at the restaurants were wonderful. Staff at reception and check-in were awful. We had communicated ahead of time that we had our baby and asked for early check-in and a crib/pack and play and both were confirmed. As we booked with our travel agent who gets perks with the hotel - early check-in was a part of our package anyway. We arrived around 4pm and our room was still no ready - we were placed in an area in the basement with no view and were not impressed at all. After my husband spoke to the front desk manager, we were moved to a different room with a gorgeous view and balcony. This room was spacious and much better. Still, they dropped the ball on several of the amenities we typically get through my agent (welcome letter, snack or amenities, breakfast, etc.). When we arrived the valet told my husband it was included with our stay at no charge, then my husband was charged $30 a day ($90) for our stay and was upset at checkout about being misled. It was a fun weekend but felt overpriced and the hotel needs some TLC in certain areas. I'm sure upkeep and maintenance is astronomical here, but the spa area was gross and the elevators and walking access are a huge issue.

What a nostalgic visit. We were here 30 years ago and it looks the same. Updates have kept the…read moreretro feel. It's still a one stop place. You park right next to your hotel. You ski right out your door. You swim in an indoor outdoor pool. And if your thirsty, there is a bar/restaurant on the slopes and inside the resort. All the comforts away from home. Each Individual unit is owned and decorated by its owner. So some are going to be more updated than others. We stayed in 5313 and had a fabulous time. This is not an upscale resort. But it is very homey. If you are a long time silver creek lover, you will love that everything has stayed the same. Why the resort gets 3 stars. The restaurant is closed, but you can grab a quick bite in the lounge. The pool is open for 3 different sessions in the evening and you are allowed to go one time and must register. However it is Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday's. Actually most everything at Silver Creek is CLOSED on Tuesday and Wednesdays. What a let down!! . We are at the end of the season, so whatever snow ice they have,, thats all. They stopped making snow in February. Still we look forward to coming back and not waiting another 30 years

What a dump!!! While close to the slopes, I found myself asking if the whole place was either a…read morejoke or some kInd of bizarre mob money laundering scheme. The floors were littered with refuse and stains. Everything had the dingy look of a mid-seventies relic. This appeared to be a place where parents with large families check in to allow their children to roam far and wide - we heard them all late into the night! In the lobby were two stores that appeared to offer second hand items and an assortment of odds and ends more akin to a yard sale that a resort. No breakfast available of any sort. No place to get coffee. When asked for options, I was referred to the re-purposed school bus that served as a shuttle to the main facility every thirty minutes.

Aesthetic: A well run Hampton Inn…read more My Favorites: The free snack selection. Experience: This was a very well managed Hilton property, we enjoyed our night here. We were impressed with all the complimentary snack offerings upon arrival. The beds were standard, comfy, and clean. We had a nice little mountain view and it was a cute area. The tub in the shower didn't have a drain plug and looked like it needed to be painted badly, and the water pressure was very weak, that was the only downside, but not a huge deal for an overnight. We'd definitely stay here again when in Princeton.

This trip was no different--after a seven-hour road trip, the four of us (plus my service dog) rolled in, dreaming of a quick swim and some relaxation. Spoiler alert: that dream died fast. We used the Hilton app to check in, but I went down to the desk for a second key so my husband and I could both access the room and amenities. I gave my room number, and--without asking for my name, ID, or even confirming I belonged there--the employee just handed me a key and said, "Have a good night." I'm sorry, WHAT? That's not customer service, that's a security disaster waiting to happen. We stayed in room 504, where we were greeted by a musty, dirty odor strong enough to knock you backward. The room looked like it hadn't seen a dust cloth in years. The bathtub? Absolutely disgusting. Several light bulbs were out. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, the whole place felt like a tropical rainforest with the humidity, and the Wi-Fi (which I need for my work as a REALTOR®) didn't connect at all. To top it off, the shower had no hot water, and by morning, I'd developed a sore throat. The pool was supposed to be our redemption moment. Instead, an interior light fixture came loose while my kids were in the water. We immediately got them out and told the staff. Two hours later, the pool was still open and people were still swimming like nothing happened. Because apparently, here, safety hazards double as "added ambiance." Then there's the "pet relief" area--a 5x5 patch of grass that looked like a landmine field of other dogs' poop, with shards of glass scattered throughout. The bag dispensers were empty, not that I didn't bring my own. My poor service dog deserves better than that. And just when I thought I'd seen it all, I spotted exposed wires on the 5th floor, seemingly connected to a security camera. Nothing says "welcome" quite like loose electrical wiring. The one and only pleasant surprise? Breakfast. It was actually good--shockingly good, given everything else. Unfortunately, one decent meal doesn't erase the fact that this stay was dirty, unsafe, uncomfortable, and far below the standard Hilton promises, especially for Diamond members.
