Some people like hiking in the mountains. I like walking…read morethrough the city. Some people run along the river. I run on a treadmill with a TV in front of me. Some people eat snakes and bugs. I eat snickers and bananas. But there was one thing I always wanted to try - white water rafting - just like my girl Meryl Streep in "The River Wild" (sans Kevin Bacon trying to kill me). I took a chance and decided that the rafting trip was for me when I had the option during college orientation. I stepped aboard a large raft with about 7 other freshmen newbies and our guide. The guide was very outdoorsy and informative when it came to teaching us how to navigate the rapids safely while also giving us a nature tour of the area. "See that? That's the New River Gorge Bridge. People commit suicide there all the time." *click goes the camera* Making our way down the river was beautiful yet horrifying. I felt like a bipolar woman going through "the change." One second I'd be enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and by the next I would be screaming bloody murder and accusing the guide of trying to kill me. Not.Dramatic.At.All. Along the voyage you're allowed to jump out of the raft and take a dip in the river - not me though, I don't do wet. As the trip continues you face down a variety of rapids and try your best to stay afloat. And of course stay aboard the raft. Not my friend Angie though, she went right overboard. I could have tried to save her, but I wasn't letting go of my paddle nor the safety of my flotation device. Hey... at least she had a life preserver ;( By the end of the day I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was thrilled my college gave me the chance to do this. The rapids are fun, the guides are awesome, the lunch back at the campsite is good, and there are even photos to buy as they have photographers snapping shots at some of the rapids. I'd share my photo with you but this trip was during the days when the doctor said I "had a bit of a weight problem." And nobody wants to see Keiko the Killer Whale wearing a life vest while holding a paddle, right? *20 minutes after posting this review, Mexican Yelper Nadya R sent me a link to photobucket of an image she mobile uploaded from my bedroom without my knowledge...CREEP...enjoy!* http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/misschapis/IMG00624.jpg

We got there and set up a tent. It was a nice flat area and it was raining but did not flood. The trip itself was a lot of fun. Our instructor was fun and we were kept safe. All in all I would suggest this company to anyone and even if you don't use this company I would strongly suggest rafting this river before you die.

I was really looking forward to stopping here, especially to see the lighthouse, but visiting in…read morethe off season definitely took away from the experience. This area is known for the lake and for boating and outdoor recreation, so I understand that coming during a colder time probably put a slight damper on everything that should be taken with a grain of salt if you're reading this review. When we arrived there was no one in the office. It felt closed off and unattended. I wasn't able to go up into the lighthouse at all, which was super disappointing because for me it was the main draw. From the outside, the lighthouse was lovely to look at but I was really really hoping to be able to climb to the top. The rest of the grounds looked fine and this is definitely a place designed for overnight stays. I would definitely return but during the right season and when I am able to explore the lighthouse!

The location is only 20-25 minutes from the New River Gorge area which makes visiting the bridge or downtown Fayetteville a breeze. The gift shop has a large selection of items just in case you forgot something or need a souvenir. There is a large community firepit and pavilion with Adirondack chairs. Each full hookup site also has it's own firepit with chairs. The property is well maintained. Make sure you take a walk to the hammock area...this was the kids favorite part! We already booked a trip back for next year and cannot wait to spend more time in WV.

Wow wow wow. We tend to be a little bougie with our accommodations so we were going out on a limb…read moreduring our trip to West Virginia. Partly because there were no four seasons in the area (mostly joking) but also because we were in WeSt vIrGiNiA and wanted to get in touch with NaTuRe we decided to go outside of our cocmfort zone and picked some closer to nature options. This was the second. We went with Kaymoor at Adventures on the Gorge. Thjey have the full scale between literal camping and hotel-like, I believe we chose the most hotel-like option. I wanted to do the glamping but there were none available about a month before our trip when I finally got my shit together to book shit. Check in was super easy. We were given a key and a treasure map of how to get to our "cabin" which was easy to drive to. It is a legit cabin in the woods but will all amenities one would expect staying in the a hotel. Great bathroom and shower with a ton of towels, bedroom and separate lounge room that included a mini fridge. TV, wifi, climate control. There was even a cute little porch with chairs in the literal woods. It is so cool. AC worked great. The shower was great. They provided more towels than I'm used to getting at hotels. The bed was SUPER COMFY. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this place. Such a good choice.

We stayed in a beautiful cabin that was extremely clean and spacious with a picnic bench, firepit, and trees for hanging a hammock. We took a phenomenal 5 hour white water rafting trip down the New River with our very knowledgeable and personable guide, Greg! He guided us through huge rapids and even a thunderstorm! They even gave us snacks halfway through! We also zip lined with Adventures on the Gorge, and all of their employees are just so humorous and you can tell they love their jobs. 10/10 experience!!
