The "Beast of the East" showed no mercy and it was worth all the time and money spent. We will be back!! Our personal boat guides, Nathan and Tristan, were great. They told us each rapid's name and explained how we were going to maneuver the rapid. We went in October and the water was pretty warm. We were provided wet suits, blue water resistant pullovers and life jackets (of course!). Safety was always top of mind. On our way to the Upper Gauley, our instructors took about 25 minutes to go over commands, do's/dont's and overall expectations.

It took about half an hour to get our harnesses on and get shuttled to the bridge walk site. We spent about an hour walking the bridge one way and the shuttle picked us up at the opposite end. Our guide was Pete and he was full of bridge knowledge. He snapped a photo for us too. Most importantly, I also felt safe the entire time. The tour runs rain or shine. No refunds. We got lucky and it was clear skies (a little windy) for our 9:30am tour, but the 11am definitely got a bit wet later that day. Definitely a check off the bucket list while you're at New River Gorge NP!

Walking beneath one of America's most iconic bridges was unforgettable -- the scenery is breathtaking, the history is fascinating, and the entire journey felt both thrilling and completely safe. Our guides were outstanding: knowledgeable, patient, and great with youth. They made every Scout feel confident and excited throughout the walk. When we approached the harder rapids like Keeneys and Double Z, having Bean as the raft guide made me feel a lot secure because he's very capable and he takes this profession very seriously. Then there is Scott who is also very funny. He talks a lot of sensible humor and looks out for his co-workers. He pitches heavily but nicely about (clients) showing appreciation for the great time at the hands of New and Gauley River Adventures staff. Do not expect to get wet and do not expect water donuts. This boat is not powerful or high speed. Expect a very odd experience from start to finish. Do not expect any signage anywhere at Hawks Nest Lodge or any indication where the van is parked. The actual boat ride is maybe 20 minutes. You cover maybe 4 miles of the river. Very little interaction with the captain of the boat. I can assure you he hadn't had a bath in a long time and there was more dirt under his fingernails than a person can imagine. The boathouse/bathrooms/gift shop is another real piece. Lol. Truly insane on something that could be good. The whole thing was so pathetic that it was entertaining.

It was my absolute favorite trip down the river so far. We had the pleasure of rafting with Corbin. He was AMAZING. Like I said, I've been down this river 5 times now - I thought I had witnessed all of the fun things there were to do on the river rafting, but I was so incredibly wrong. I haven't laughed that hard in such a long time & the pictures from ACE show how amazing the experience really was. After this past weekend, I won't raft with anyone but ACE & will request Corbin for future trips. ACE is keeping the spirit of rafting as it should be. Rafting. Fun. Adventurous. Im very glad life vests are required because my kids were so brave jumping all around. I was a little nervous but the life vests made me feel much better. The zipline was very fun and the operator was so kind with my youngest when he was trying to do it. He got too scared so he backed out but he'll get it next time! When you show up, someone will open the gate for you. If no one is there, call the number on the gate. Staff were incredibly kind and relaxed. You'll sign a waiver. It's up to you if you want to wear a helmet or not (I chose not to). You'll be paired with a horse based on weight and experience. I was paired with Scarlett. She was a beautiful horse who definitely knew her own strength and was on a mission to eat nonstop (can relate, Scarlett!). I think she would eat a whole tree if given the chance! I really enjoyed riding her! I'm often paired with horses with a bolder personality and I wouldn't have it any other way! They give my ride life and make it memorable! Thanks for the ride, Scarlett. The trail itself was beautiful. It's entirely through the woods and oh so peaceful. I wish I could enjoy that sort of serenity more often. After your ride is over, it's nothing short of appropriate to tip your guide(s) and in doing so, you get to ride their mechanical bull. To be honest, I've been waiting my entire life to do this! I just never seen one in person to have the opportunity. They gave us some tips and one by one we rode the bull. It was really fun and I'm glad I finally got the chance to do it! I would absolutely recommend this place and have 0 complaints!

It was our first time in NRG and also paddleboarding. Needless to say we both went for a swim both intentional and not! It was a really great experience and went at a pace we were comfortable with.
