I always get something to take home after my work week, and I have never been disappointed yet! I usually get a few burritos to take home, and they are always fresh and delicious. Legit one of the few doable restaurants in Gaitsville/fort hood. I should start by saying Mexican cuisine is NOT my favorite. But it was either this or subway,McDonald's,or maybe gas station food. Anyhow, despite this fact I'd say overall not bad. The meat dish - forget the name -but basically a massive plate of steak, chicken, sausage, AND pork with corn tortillas, beans, and all the fajita fixings imaginable. Everything was well seasoned and tender here but the sausage was bland. The menudo would have been a major hit were it not for the salt level. Waaaaay too salty. The shrimp cocktail was one of the weirdest thing I have ever tasted. It was sitting in this cold tomato broth soup with huge chunks of avocados swimming on top. Really odd and the taste was just not for me. Service was great. They gave like 10 crackers, tons of condiments and everything was packaged well and piping hot. The price was extremely reasonable. My favorite foods here is bacon potato egg breakfast taco with green sauce, half a shrimp quesadilla for lunch, and the chicken queso rice dip for dinner. They have a drive through window and excellent service inside and at window. I have never had to wait on refill, very long for my order to be taken or to get it... the sangria margarita is aaaamazing. Ambiance is great with the large booths that give a feeling of privacy. They gave mhim nachos instead of the Fajitas that he ordered. when he went back to get the order fixed, the boy at the window argued with him. And then a girl went up to the boy whispered something in his ear while pointing at Taylor. That is a big Nono first of all. And then while they were fixing the order they were all over in the corner looking at Taylor laughing. Taylor asked for the manager and they would not get her. Another Nono. They got him the food and even after spending $60 there, they charged him $5 more. Third Nono. FIRST OF ALL THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. IF YOU MADE A MISTAKE, FIX IT. Ice and friendly, and both times it seemed to be very busy which usually means that it's good because their is some demand. However both the burrito and biscuits and gravy have been both so disappointing that I'm going to give up on this place and not be returning again. Ordered from here through the Favor app. I ordered supreme nachos and enchiladas with cheese. I can attest that the food was just ok and it might have to die with it being delivered. Don't expect to be thrilled. The enchilada didn't have any sauce, so when they say cheese they mean cheese on top. It tasted very bitter. The rice and refried beans that came with it were bland and dry. The nacho weren't bad at all. The jalapeños that come are pickled and not spicy. The chips were the best part of the meal. Oh Gatesville...we only see each other every other month or so; but Every time I'm in town, the breakfast burritos are a MUST HAVE at New Rodeo Mexican Grill (next to Walmart). We have gone here for years, but last night was the last. I called in an order and could barely hear her because she was talking so low and fast. I ask if I can add chips and hot sauce in an 8 Oz size. she asked if I wanted chips or the salsa. I said, both. but because I couldn't hear her well I asked "do chips not come with the salsa Anymore?" and she said no they're sold separate. fine. I bought both. I went to pick it up and asked if they had put my beans in there because there was only an 8oz cup in the bag and a 4oz cup. She pointed to the 8 Oz like I had 2 heads and said there. I say, ok well then can have the other 4 Oz container of salsa, I paid for it. she starts giggling and speaking spanish to the cook, and I wait another 2 mins. I finally just ask another server to hand me a 4oz salsa from the cooler, and she did. it shouldn't be this hard or me be treated like shit because I wanted what I paid for. It was dead in there, and if that's how she has been treating patrons I can see why. people don't want to spend their money in this economy and not get what they paid for, or that kind of service. Youre not a friend doing me a favor, I paid for 8oz, and was charged 7.00 for it. It was a simple mistake that without her attitude could have been easily solved. Moving forward, as to not have to deal with that BS, we will go to El Tap. I ordered a large menudo to go and was very disappointed and upset. All I got was two pieces of meat, few hominy and the rest was all just soup. If they don't have any menudo to make a complete order they should've told me they were out instead of sending me and selling me a large order of just soup. Menudo consists of a lot more meat than just two pieces. It should never be just soup. We've been there before and their food was served cold but we decided to give them another chance. As usual we didn't have enough time to go eat lunch, so the closest place with this one. The staff were nice and professional. Our waitress gave us a courtesy of asking if he spoke Spanish, which I don't, instead of assuming. They do have lunch specials but we just got the steak burrito , which had beans, tomato and lettuce inside. The meat was plentiful and the tortilla was good as well, not too thick and not too thin. The cups are a big size, which is a plus for those who only have one glass of whatever they drink. The atmosphere was calm and busy, mainly because it was lunch time. The waitstaff each other regardless if it was their table or not. The prices reasonable depending on what you order. I usually get the burritos when I eat at a Mexican restaurant because they fill me up and I don't have to worry about using a utensils (eat by hand -sorry). If you're in the mood for Mexican food and don't feel like driving into Gatesville (which isn't too far in) than this place is for you. Plus, the chips and salsa is free and the salsa is not spicy at all... which I'm not a fan of spicy, so it's another plus! read more

Some restaraunts try to cover up the fact that their food is mediocre by having a fancy looking restaraunt. This place isn't much to look at but their food quickly makes you stop caring about your surroundings. One of the best mexican spots I have ever been to. Salsa and chips were above par. This place is pretty authentic. I went twice while I was pre-mobbing at North Fort Hood and liked everything I had. I went one morning for breakfast and got the chorizo scrambled eggs and it was really good. Came back and brought my Command team and I ordered the molcajete and it was pretty awesome. Only complaint I had was this was the first time I've ever had molcajete where the cactus was cut up in pieces and cooked with everything else. Normally, it's leaves of cactus laid out around the edge of the bowl. I like that better. But this nonetheless, this place is still really solid. The people are super nice here too. read more

I am giving it four stars because of excellent service. The food in general is mild, really too mild for me. The salsa and chips is really one of the weaker items on the menu. Salsa & chips at HEB are much better. I had Green Verde Enchiladas. They were OK but need spice and could use Mexican White Cheese (Queso Chihuahua). Let me first start off by saying that I love spicy food. It's almost an obsession. That being said, this Mexican restaurant ACTUALLY has spicy food!!!! Ask for the green sauce -- if you love heat, you will not be disappointed. I love ordering a Michelada and splitting a molcajete (which keeps your food piping hot while you down tortillas full of meat, peppers and cactus)! The service is always good and fast.
