Coach Isaac really helped him gain confidence and overcome that fear of being bullied. Within 3 months, my oldest no longer feared his bullies and had no problem standing up for himself since then. Fast forward 5 years, I now have both of my boys with RCA under TWO great coaches. I highly encourage parents who have children experiencing bullying to join programs like RCA to help them deal with the negative effects of bullying both mentally and physically. Besides the ability to defend themselves, there were so many other great benefits that came with joining RCA. You are surrounded by great kids and families, lots of one on one with the coaches who drill into them the importance of respect, teamwork, and discipline, it also provides a safe environment for everyone. What I value most about RCA is that the coaches pay close attention to their students and work with them individually every chance they see room for improvement. They keep the parents in the loop with their children's progress and discuss areas of concern that they would like to work on. Their focus on individual growth in and out the gym is undeniable. They are both very dedicated to making a positive impacts on their students of all ages. The classes are fun, enjoyable and exceeds all expectations for quality. RCA is a great organization hands down. But what makes them set apart from other gyms? In my opinion, the direct impact the coaches have had on my children. Both of my children are very into school which is why they became the targets of bullies. But RCA helped them gain the confidence they needed to be proud of who they are individually and stand up for themselves. I can honestly say that I no longer worry about my boys being bullied at school. They are more calm, collected, analyze situations and use words before ever resorting to any physical altercations. RCA has had such a positive impact on my boys and it shows through their character, academics and behavior. There is no doubt that we will be very long term members at RCA!

Everyone is so friendly and most importantly, all of the coaches are skilled, competent and professional. Combat sports can get dangerous. The coaches do a great job at keeping a watchful eye on the children and ensuring a safe training environment. I highly recommend!

A lot of the emphasis is on body movement and awareness. That means a lot of tumbling and agility exercises mixed in with self defense and karate. There's usually a competition for each session. The variety of the competitions - sumo, rope swing, dodgeball, freeze, belt grab, etc - is an example of how well rounded the entire program is. One of the truly great things about Elite is that kids are taught to instruct other kids. Every kid that stays long enough eventually becomes a sensei. Our six year old son started teaching about six months in. We love this! What better way to teach kids leadership, confidence, respect, social skills and more. All of this is to the credit of the great sensei that runs Elite. Sensei John is calm, upbeat, unflappable and definitely one of a kind. He talks to children with enthusiasm and treats them like more than "just a kid". As such, he gets the attention of his students without a loud voice or strong commands. The kids all want to do well for him and for themselves. It should be noted that if you're looking for a tough, strict and very regimented karate environment, this might not be the place for you. Your child will learn a lot at Elite but it's not going to be through military-style training you see at other schools. I could go on and on and on. Our son loves this place. We have the highest amount of respect for Sensei John. You must check it out for yourself!

He teaches my "cane-fu" class, which is more like practical self-defense for older people (who might happen to have a cane handy.) He and his son and another sensei teach my daughter's kenpo class, where they do learn kata and forms, but they always make sure you know what the moves are a response to. In fact, that's Stan's first question almost every time: "why are you doing this?" Hard to believe this quality of martial arts instruction exists in small-town Galt.

I haven't been to his dojo in downtown Galt, but he used to have classes in his backyard(or garage on rainy days) which was quite the experience. I remember one day, trying to do a form while he distracted our eyes with a water hose...haha. He didn't do that often but he was always trying to find new ways to mix things up for us. I really appreciated how different it was compared to the usual karate place, where you can see yourself doing forms in the mirrored walls, he emphasized body control- knowing where your foot is(without looking) so that you don't screw up the technique for example. I don't know how his classes are currently, but I think he provided great real world tactical self defense back then and have no doubts that he's still a great teacher. I wish I had stuck with it longer than I did.

Black or brown folks will be ignored during classes. Sad, because the owners themselves are POC but they have very close ties to maga folks. They also promote people very easily. As long as you're paying, the 'master' doesn't care. Everyone gets a belt promotion. ***UPDATE*** Yelp seems to be hiding my review about this place. Let me add more info since it's so weird for my review to just disappear like that. I had a niece and nephew attend this place for a few years. At first things were great, then the owners got greedy and changed the timeframe of the classes as well as the quantity of classes you could take. They lost a lot of students because of this but those that were loyal stayed. My brother and sister in law contemplated on leaving since the classes were shorter and were only twice a week now instead of three times a week with an additional half hour. Oh, not to mention, THE PRICE STAYED THE SAME WITH THIS CHANGE. So not only were you paying MORE but got LESS. My nephew was on the spectrum and my niece was not. The difference in how they were treated was not what I was expecting. I came to a great amount of their lessons to watch but after seeing how the school was ran, couldn't bring myself to support this place. Obviously the decision to keep them there was not up to me but I couldn't stand it. Seeing the little black and brown kids get very obvious low standard treatment compared tho their Caucasian and Asian counterparts were incredibly sad. They are not at all prepared or even educated enough to handle children on the spectrum. The 'master' has lost his patience many times and tries to play it off but it's very obvious to those sitting and watching. Again, I would urge all black and brown parents to take their kids elsewhere.
