Last weekend my 84 year old mom and I took the Butler Motor Tours Lady Liberty Weekend to New York…read moreCity. Both my mom and I have traveled extensively and taken many bus tours in the past. This was the worst bus trip either of us have ever taken. The bus had open seating, no reserved seating arrangements; but because of pick up schedules, our group was the last to board the bus in PA. By the time my mom and I boarded, only 2 seats were available. They were in the back of the bus wedged between the bathroom and the wheel well/rear window frame. Our seats were also against the back wall of the bus and could not be reclined, so we were essentially sitting in a boxed in area at the back of the bus, directly over the wheels. We were also seated lower to the floor than all the other seats, so we could not see over the seat backs in front of us, out the windows, or view the TV monitors further up the bus (onn which 4 films were played during the trip). The air conditioner vents stopped at the normal row ahead of us as did the overhead air vents, so for our 11 hour bus trip, we had no air conditioning, no incoming air from the vents, and no air circulation as we were against the back wall of the bus. At each stop of the bus, we complained about our seating arrangements and asked that seating be rotated so that we would not have to suffer the discomfort for the entire trip. We were simply told, we don't do that. Remember, this was open seating- no reserved seats. We survived the first day and set out the second day to be first on the bus rather than last so as to secure better seating, however we were told that everyone could regain the seats they were on the previous day and we would have to resume sitting in the worst seats on the bus. The bus driver told us that if we didn't want those seats, perhaps we didn't need to be on the bus. The host (of the trip) despite our many previous complaints only acted as if our concerns were inconsequential and offered no assistance or remedy. Mind you, we paid the same fares as any other passenger, no discount for third class steerage seating. Again, day three of the trip we were told we would have to sit in the seats at the back of the bus with no accommodation, apology, etc. At this point all I wanted to do was rip the host from the two seats she occupied in the front of the bus and have her sit in the back. I even suggested to her that she let my 84 year old mother sit in one of the front seats beside her. When I made the suggestion, she said she had a lot of "stuff" there. I suggested she put her "stuff" in the back seat, but we were again told we would have to sit in the back seats. This was the most uncomfortable bus trip either my mom or I have ever taken and our host and driver were the least concerned about our comfort or safety of any tour personnel we have ever experienced. We will never use this service again or recommend it to anyone else.

This is a review for the First Niagara Pavilion Concert Express. Roundtrip tickets can be purchased…read morealongside your concert tickets through Ticketmaster. If you do choose to see a concert at the pavilion in Burgettstown, I firmly recommend taking advantage of this service as you'll save yourself the trouble of parking, won't have to battle traffic to and from the venue, and will enjoy a nice, air-conditioned ride in a bus or van (this depends on the number of riders per event). Stops include the following: Monroeville (Giant Eagle), Waterfront (Best Buy), Station Square (Commerce Court), Waterworks Plaza (King's restaurant), McKnight Road (Applebee's), North Huntington (Eat 'n Park), Greensburg (Eat 'n Park), and Robinson (Buffalo Wild Wings). The drivers are always professional, courteous, and the bus or van is consistently in apple-pie order. Commuting to and from a show with fellow music fans can be entertaining in itself as there's usually a cast of characters onboard with whom terrific and amusing conversations can be had. Leave the car at home, hop on the wagon, and let someone else drive for a change. You'll alleviate stress, reduce highway congestion, shrink your carbon footprint a little, and make some new friends. P.S. Make sure you arrive at your stop on time! They are unforgiving to stragglers and latecomers. As soon as the last song is performed, immediately make your way to your bus and remember where it is parked. I've been told that the Concert Express leaves 15 minutes after the end of the show. You have been warned. So far, I've yet to miss the bus.

If you are like me and know very little about the Amish in our country, this is the way to learn so…read moremuch about the history and current lifestyle. Rich, the owner/operator was excellent in his narration of the Amish. His parents were Amish but left the community before he was born. He went over some "rules" about how to show respect to the Amish such as don't take any pictures without asking first. During our three-hour tour, we were able to see the beautiful countryside, farms, and homes, staying off the main roads is the only way to see just how awesome this area is! We made three stops in the Amish-owned and operated stores and workshops. The Amish that we met were very friendly and enjoyed showing us their great businesses. I learned so much about the Amish today and have more respect for their culture. Please consider taking one of the number of tours that Rich offers. I wish I had found his website earlier as I would have loved having dinner with the Amish and learning more about them! Please do keep in mind that the Amish may or may not take credit cards! It is best to have cash! Also, their stores, etc, are not open on Sundays!

He gave us a choice of what we wanted to see, and he also gave us many ideas for places to visit and to dine afterwards. Our 6-year-old granddaughter was with us, which is why we chose a shorter tour, but he was so nice and accommodating with her that I'm sure she would have liked to spend another hour seeing the sights. I have been to the area countless times in the past decades, but I learned so much more about the culture than I had ever known before. We will definitely repeat the experience, as he has a varied selection of tours.
