Countdown Lincoln Road had alot of hype behind it when it first opened - right across the road from…read morethe ever popular Pak N Save Lincoln Road which until then had an unspoken monopoly over the local area. Whilst its not my favourite branch - it is pratical, small and quick to get in and out of. With multiple self service counters, including 2 with conveyor belts rather than just the single counter weight sensitive ones- they are fantastic for when you want to pick up a few things and get out quickly (something their yellow counterparts fail on regularly). I was a little dissapointed with the fish section - it never looks very fresh and the counter closes quite early making it hard for people like me trying to do late night shops after work or the gym. The meat is very exciting and I feel like they dont have as many specials as other Countdown stores. Their vegetables are sporadic - they were out of limes for a good 2 months during the winter, and seemed to have forgotten ginger and garlic do exist outside of the processed tube form. They do however have an instore pharmacy which has a chemist on hand to fill prescriptions and advice to shoppers which some people may appreciate. They also have an internal shop where they sell clothing and other amenities. The cookware section is also impressive - i have bought many plates and utensils here as they are often on Onecard special. This store also has disability friendly counters which are slightly wider than the normal checkout aisles - which they can be credited for. Overall, it has a limited range of products compared to other larger Countdowns, I visit them to buy my Lewis Road products - but generally still shop across the road at Pak N Save as its cheaper and has a more extensive range of products.

The aisles and set up are standard pak n save but the difference with this one is that they are big. You are able to shop without awkwardly coughing to let the person in front of you know that they need to get out the way. You are able to shop without playing trolley wars with the person next to you. My other fave thing about Pak n Save Lincoln Road is the values aisle at the front of the entrance into the supermarket. You always find things that you wouldn't usually think of buying. You end up with a trolley full of cheap marshmallows and jam! These come in handy on a rain day. The fact that it is the biggest Pak n Save means it can accommodate so much more including the English food section, a bigger bakery that actually serves fresh pies, a deli section with much more than ham, plus a seafood section that cleans your fish for you! What else could you ask for in a supermarket.

There is no question some good specials can be found here, but overall I think it definitely has a high price point than Pak'N'Save and Countdown. This place is beautifully set out, with aisles comfortably big enough to accommodate 2 trolleys, and plenty of checkouts always open ready to help you. The butcher stocks the biggest scotch fillet steaks I've ever seen, along with rib roasts & T-bone steaks. They also make their own sausages. With a kick-ass deli, fresh fish counter & a great range of locally grown produce, you almost feel like you're shopping at a gourmet supermarket.

I noticed one that seemed to be a kind of herbal pharmacy also selling ugg boots, and a meat counter selling all sorts of delicacies, from very cheap chicken breasts through to chicken's feet, pig's snouts, and even pig tero-tero (English translation apparently). Having a quick look around I think this may be the cheapest and have the widest variety of the Asian supermarkets in Northcote, perhaps why it is so big and popular.

The location is a good one right in the heart of St Helier's where I'm sure the elderly of the area really take advantage of this gem. Mainly I see young people and families in here buying ice creams, picking up bread or one of their infamous almond croissants which are kept at the counter. Eden foods also has a super good range of quality items. It's bigger than your typical dairy and had all of the good stuff on hand. The staff here are courteous and kind.

Which is sad as now your kinda forced to shop at a major supermarket chain , and it seems there is no in between . There is no popping into a supermarket for just a few items , as you always see something else you don't need but think you do . But I digress , this Four Square is well stocked , has a beer and wine section and a decent fruit and vege area with enough items to make a dinner if you suddenly needed some extras . Staff are friendly and nice , I always pop in for a look even if I don't want anything .

On one side are the meat and veges, and on the other side are the grocery items and frozen foods. If you can get past that though, you're onto a winner. The range of veges is small, but has everything you need at great prices - most recently I got a pack of two fat bok choy for $1.50. The grocery section is well-stocked, and even has a pretty decent Japanese section including Kewpie mayo and salad dressing, furikake, and other items that are often missing from Chinese supermarkets. The best kept secret in Auckland is in the frozen food section, where they hide their incredibly delicious dumplings, called So Real and made in Panmure (I even posted a picture so you can hunt them down more easily). These are seriously the best frozen dumplings I've come across in Auckland and it's so easy to make a great soup when you have them to hand (as judged objectively on a scale of number of compliments relative to number of second and third helpings).
