It's like walking in and having to deal with somebody who hates you, speaks down to and belittles you when your just trying to donate some plasma. They stick your finger to make sure there's no infections, but it seems like they are really trying to hurt me. Yesterday I left without donating because the staff was so unbelievable rude to me without any reason at all. If I could fight this woman I would. I'm never going back and I would recommend donating anywhere else.

If you know a little about the ARC, come by and volunteer. Most of this office's opportunities are volunteer only(although most are field-work spots), you pretty much help out at other places, but this is a large regional office for the newly-combined Dutchess and Ulster Co. branches. (There are some paid spots within the office, but for the most part, most of the office is volunteer work. These spots tend to be the "director-level/executive level spots for paid spots, but it all depends on the situation.) This location does take donations, however clothes are not acceptable donations at this location(an ARC location in Maryland does this). If you're not sure, call this location and find out. Money(checks and cash), and MoneyGram donations are accepted, as well as supplies such as water and the like, are also accepted here. Drop it by. You'll get a tax-donation receipt for any monetary donation you can give. The American Red Cross needs your help in any way you can. You might even benefit yourself, if you have lost something due to natural disasters(or need help looking for someone, even someone who is in the military). Also at this location, they have a transport ERV(Emergency Response Vehicle) that provides the supplies to needy emergencies, based on other factors which I'm not going to get into here. Another thing they have at this location is a blood donation center, which is open every day that the main location is open. Come to the front door(nearest the parked ERV-and up the few stairs), sign in to the guestbook(and later sign-out) and give some blood.

If you donate locally, the blood stays in your community and helps to keep your blood bank at its capacity should there be a need (and there is *always* a need for blood for many, many reasons.) If you donate to an organization such as the Red Cross, your blood goes to its nearest Red Cross blood distribution center (which for me, is about three hours away.) It costs money and takes time to get blood when you need it if you don't have your blood bank replenished locally. I'm not saying don't donate to the Red Cross, that'd be absurd. Especially if there is a national need for blood. Please, please, please donate any way possible. But for me, the Bloodmobile is the way to go. Mine is with Berkshire Health Systems. I was scared at first because I'm terrified by needles and totally oogey about it, but there is nothing scary about donating on the Bloodmobile. Its comfortable, the nurses are *extremely* good at what they do. The process is quick and painless. And we always have a few laughs. I have never had a bad experience. Make sure you drink plenty of water before you donate, and have a well balanced meal before hand. I am so oogey about the needle, that they even set me up then cover everything up so I don't have to see anything. They're accomodating and make the whole thing completely stress free. I would send anyone and everyone to donate on the Bloodmobile. Its the coolest thing around.

The employee's need to treat the donor with respect, and should not be allowed to treat someone so rudely and think that can get away with it. As if there attitude toward someone doesn't matter and no reproductions will happened to them. Customers have the right to be treated fairly and with respect, free from discrimination or harassment.
