I've only been to SAJ once so far, but the experience was wonderful enough that I already feel confident writing this review. I went to SAJ tonight for a pre-Hanukkah party. Even though there were easily more than 100 people in the room (including many, many children under the age of 10), the chazzan, rabbi, and rabbi's wife all immediately recognized me as a newcomer and came up to chat within my first five minutes in the room. They were all very friendly and easy to talk to -- the rabbi's wife and I even have a mutual friend back in Singapore! I've visited a lot of synagogues around the city in the past few weeks, and my visit to SAJ was easily the most welcoming experience I've had yet. After that initial welcome, the rest of my experience at SAJ was equally great. Even though the party was mostly designed for the kids, there was still plenty that would appeal to adults. At one point the rabbi and another man staged a hilarious "latkes vs. hamantaschen" mock debate that addressed, among other things, the question of whether latkes might be partially responsible for climate change due to their relationship with oil. Ha! I'm going to keep exploring other shuls around the city, but I'll definitely head back to SAJ for Shabbat as soon as possible. My first visit was wonderful enough to convince me to give this community a second (and third, and forth) look!

My son who graduated from CA 2 years ago still talks about some teachers and still remembers fun…read morethings they did there. Upon entering the daycare at age 1 we saw him transforming into independed little person and it was fascinating to see how much knowledge he brought home each day at such young age. Any learning was incorporated into fun games or activities and some of the teachers we had should have gotten an award for going all out on transforming the classroom based on the theme fo the month. Baby #2 entered CA at age 4 months and I had absolutely no fear or hesitation trusting the staff with my child. Those ladies are on top of their game and they keep you informed with messages and photos throughout the day. Even infants have music and yoga classes! Side note director and the staff were extremely patient and supportive when my kid was going though prolonged potty training transition, delayed speech, etc. They also recognized and encouraged his positive qualities. Each child is different and unique and from my observation staff recognizes and utilizes different approaches. My son's class graduated from CA knowing all pre-K material (based on conversations with other parents) and all the learning was done though play, songs and fun. If a child gets upset the daycare is closed for the weekend or holiday, that pretty much tells you how they feel about going there :)

The staff really cares for each student in the school and they work hard to help them succeed! I am continuously impressed with the teachers, administration and the support staff. This school goes from K-Grade 8 and is really small and focused on giving each student individual attention and maximizing their potential. When I graduated there were only 135 kids in the entire school and my class was made up of 15 kids. It has a synagogue on the main floor because the school rents the upper floor and basement which is where they have a gym. This is a private school without the uniforms and has lots of field trip activities and even puts on annual plays at Queens Theater in the Park. If you're in the neighborhood then this is a great place to bring your children to. The relationships you create here are extra strong and I am still friends with almost half my graduating class. P.S. It's expensive as hell though

First of all, with the amount of money you pay for tuition, the school has no nurse or a counselor on staff. If anything happens to your child they just send him or her to the principal where they give him or her a band aid and cold compress. They even made a 4-year old hold an ice-pack on her fore-head all day without a teacher's help. And may God help you if your child is a little strong-willed, they will not only treat the child as a plague, but you the parent also. I have never seen a school so intolerant as this school. Their attitude to the parent who complains is unbelievably rude. I think the worse mistake I ever made was bringing my child to this school. My child has since gone to Catholic school and is doing very well.
