It's not the salon, it's the person you go to. I followed Katie Terrell here from a 'trendy' Royal Oak salon. It's got easier parking, it's right off Woodward, and the facilities are good. I had an appointment to have my extensions worked on. Only "Billy" does extensions. The appointment was pre-booked for raising and highlight. I had an extension hanging, ... but, waited 3 days for the appointment. When I got there, .. I checked in and waited 30 minutes. FINALLY, .. someone came and sat next to me to tell me "Billy is out of town." My hair was literally ready to rip out. I was in tears and she told me "there is nothing we can do. Nobody else does extensions." They didn't even try. And, ... never heard a word since. Thank GOD for Six!!! Do not go to New You. They don't care. read more

Very Disappointed. First I received several calls to cancel, then verify my appt time was good. I came in on June 15, first day salon opened after COVID. I let stylist know my hair was resistant t color. Hair had two different colors after dye process , where my grey was growing in, and the rest of my hair. I pointed it out to the stylist, she ignored it and said "I could just come back". She spent less than 5 minutes cutting my hair I definitely must find a salon that has their act together read more

The worst haircut I ever received. I asked her to fix it because it was about one inch shorter on one side. She said she didn't see it. I showed her and she cut it too short on the other side. Finally, I asked to talk to the owner because the stylist just couldn't fix it without cutting all of my hair off. The owner just nodded and mmmhhmmm'd me but said she couldn't do anything. If I had another stylist fix it, they would have to charge me. Then, all of the other stylists, etc. stood around just looking at me. I had to get out of there and cry. NEVER AGAIN. read more

This salon is great! I first came here to redeem a groupon/living social deal I purchased. In reality, I probably didn't even need to purchase a deal because the prices here are very reasonable! I have gotten my hair cut by Billy and Lydia and they both do excellent work! I am always pleased when I leave here. The atmosphere is friendly and non-pretentious, yet still has the professional feel of a high end salon. Even though it gets pretty busy, they still manage to fit me in last minute, which I love! I highly recommend Krista! I've had issues finding someone who can cut curly hair. It's a skill that's hard to find, probably because a lot of ladies with curly hair just straighten it anyway. I'm wayyyy too lazy for that! I'd rather sleep the extra 20 minutes and just scrunch before I go. She also whipped up the perfect hair color for me after hearing my feedback on one of the hair color samples. Plus she's totally fun. Two thumbs up! read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience with this salon. I went to get highlights the day before I left for Mexico and Cathy (one of the owners might I add) destroyed my hair. She let the bleach bleed and it made streaks and spots all over my head. I'm pretty sure she knew she messed it up too because she suddenly got really busy and didn't have time to dry it. I didn't think anything of it and went home and dried it later that night and noticed what had happened and I couldn't do anything about it because I was getting on a plane at 5am. My mom took pictures and went back and got the overpriced $100 back the next day. End of story, my hair was destroyed and I had to cut it insanely short and start over. Needless to say I will NEVER go back. If you want blonde highlights go to Blonde ambition salon, they're awesome!! read more

There are too many stations packed in this place. They are so close together, you can almost touch the person getting his/her hair cut next to you. It's also extremely noisy inside. You can hear everyone's conversations, hair dryers, etc. There is no music to help drown out the noise. It's definitely not a spa-like, peaceful atmosphere. The owner cut my hair, and initially I hated it, but once I got home and styled it myself it turned out to be okay. The owner made me feel like jerk for using a Groupon on hair AND nail services (which was acceptable according to the Groupon), noting, "the nail techs were losing so much money because of the Groupon." She also answered her phone and had a five minute conversation on it in the middle of my haircut. I liked the nail tech, I believe her name was Nicole, but the pedicure stations/chairs were old and worn. I ended up with a nice mani pedi though. Wasn't the worst experience, but definitely won't be back. read more

I was very disappointed in the salon, for many reasons: The staff is not friendly. The salon is worn out, and dirty. Stylists do not seem to sweep the floor when finished with a haircut. I could not believe this! This salon has been in business for a long time, and in my opinion, it does not try to be welcoming to a new client. The only reason why i had to go there was because I wanted to change my hair color and didn't want to wait, I wish i had waited now, but they were the only salon not booked that day, again that should've been a red flag as to why they still had openings. If you love your hair and the way it looks steer away from this place. I've never been to great clips but I've seen better results there and way cheaper. There are 17 other "Not recommended Reviews" and that's because they speak to the quality/professionalism/experience of the salon. I went there to get highlights and color. Kathy did my hair. She did not even highlight the roots and the strands that were highlighted were a different color than the bottom strands. I went back and I tried to express my concerns and she said, "I will tell you what I think needs to be done to your hair!". I went to reputable high end salon for a second opinion and to get my hair fixed prior to going back to Kathy. The salon instructed me to go back to A New You.The salon told me that she had severely damaged my hair (which I could clearly see), the color job was not even, and it had to be redone (which Kathy did). I am sadly disappointed and when I told Kathy, she had a horrible attitude. She tried to blame my botched hair job on me. I explained that it had nothing to do with me and she didn't do the job right. You get what you pay for. Yes, it's cheaper but you pay for it in the end with hair that is over-processed and needing to be redone. I will not be going back there. read more

New You Salon is conveniently located on Woodward Avenue just south of 14 Mile with great parking. I have been going here for sometime. The owners keep the salon up-to-date. My favorite stylist is Eileen. She is full of energy, always up-to-date on the new hairstyles and is the best when it comes to color and highlights! Never a bad hair day!! Love Eileen!! read more

We'll I wasn't going to leave a review because I am not the person to complain. This salon is the worst salon that I have ever been too. I went in for color and style before an important party that I had to attend. I came out crying!!!! It was a Sunday and not a lot of salons were open to fix what was damaged. My hair was very dry and I ended up walking out in the middle of her completing the style.... I had to get my hair completely re-done, and fixed leaving me with no time to get ready for the party. I ended up going to 6 salon in Birmingham. The stylist that fixed my hair squeezed me in and completed my hair and another customers within an hour. The stylist at 6 felt so bad for me that she didn't charge me a dime for fixing my hair!!! She had to fix the color, cut, and style. This is not the end of the story. I called several times to get a refund and they hung up on me. In the end they did refund my money after calling several times. I will never return too this salon they are disorganized, un-professional, and they do not know how to do hair!!!!!! read more
