My grandmother recently had her fence done by this This company and I must say that they did a subpar job . 1. They used staples to secure the boards. They had to come back and install nails after having to call them numerous times 2. The board which holds the center latch is misaligned and shorter than the other boards. I honestly would research other companies before moving forward with this one. You might not be happy with their work. read more

I had Newark Fence installed a backyard fence that came down back in 2012 and it's still standing tall today. Having had an excellent experience with this company, my other neighbor and I decided to go with them again for my other side backyard fence that came down due to the heavy wind from a few days ago. I feel like the workers didn't appreciate the extra work knowing that they needed to place part of the fence in cement and we even paid an extra $700 for them to do so. Back in early 2014 my neighbor and I hired Newark Fence to put in a new fence we share, I also had them installed a fence gate on the side. Mike came and gave us a bid, we agreed to have them work on this project. Their 3-man crew arrived on schedule, worked and finished the job in March. In June, 2014, part of the fence started moving slightly. We didn't realize the concrete under the posts was not well mixed/stirred until we found quite some cement powder around several posts. We called them time and again, no one showed up to inspect/repair. A couple of years later a section (16 feet in length) leaned in toward my back yard. As for the fence gate, we couldn't close it properly already. We had to put two 4 x 4s to (tentatively) support the fence. The weather had been mild and dry for the past few years, the temporary fix seemed to work okay until this past Tuesday (3/14/23) when the wind was blowing at 80m/hr. in the Bay Area. The gusty wind tore apart that section and the panels fell off. We hired a handyman to repair it. Turned out Newark Fence put in three 6-ft posts (should be 8-ft), the bottoms were rotten, those three posts were far detached from the concrete. They also stapled the panels top, bottom, and in-between instead of using galvanized screws. In comparison, we had a 60-ft fence installed by Fremont Fence back in 1997, to this date everything is intact and sturdy. They gave us an estimate in 2014, my neighbor felt it was a bit pricey. If you still decide to hire Newark Fence, please have your project requirements/ specs clearly stated on the contract, monitor the progress from start to finish, and inspect the quality of the final product yourself. Otherwise, please be aware of potential headaches down the road. read more

Our experience with Newark Fence was very positive. Dealt with Juan (foreman) who came out and provided competitive quotes to do three fence runs between 75-80 feet and two 7/ft end runs, one with a gate. His crew showed up when scheduled and quickly set up and began removing existing fences. By days they had all old fences down and loaded up to be hauled away. They left the job site very clean for the next days work. The following two and half days were spent installing the new fences. I made it a point to be present so that I could answer any questions and make sure the crew was addressing a few nuances and concerns related to our install (which they did). Installers, Octavio and Daniel, worked like dogs in the very hot July heat. I made it a point to regularly inspect everything they were doing to make sure the work was up to my (picky) standards. I'm happy to say they did an excellent job and the finish work was very nice. Fence post were dug deep and cemented in properly, they were respectful of adjacent surroundings (shrubs, planters, sprinklers), everything looked plum and straight. They did a very good job cleaning up after everything was complete. It was obvious that they knew what they were doing and the results reflected this. My neighbors and I could not be happier with the work they did. I find it interesting that some reviews for Newark Fence weren't all that stellar. Definitely not our experience which leads me to believe that they may not be consistent for whatever reason. That said, I would hire them again but as before make sure I was on site for day of install to periodically inspect their work. We had Newark Fence come out and replace our 30yr old fences that had blown down. Price was reasonable and they came out quickly to do it, even braving some of the storms to get it done. Once it was up, we were pretty happy with the results, the fence looks nice and was to our expectations. Fast forward about 6 months, we have started to see the downsides of their fast work and what appeared to be poor quality due to lack of oversight and supervision the day of the install. 1) We decided to install concrete in our backyard so our contractor dug out about 4 inches of the dirt. Upon doing so, he found 3 posts that only had cement at the very top layer, below that you could see the bare post. This was only in the areas where he removed some of the top soil, so I have no idea how many more posts are like that in the areas that weren't uncovered. 2) the front gate is already falling apart. You can see in the pictures how the panels are poorly secured (only a single nail holding them together in some instances). You can also see in the pictures how there is already a lot of separation occurring because of the poor construction. It definitely needs to be reinforced. There are extreme large gaps all over this thing, so much so that you can see the exposed nail in some areas. 3) they use "staples" to fasten the main fence boards to each other. I'm sure this is a regular practice and is fine. However, I have seen on our fence a number of areas where the staple went through the first board, but did not go into the second board rendering it completely useless. All in all, I cannot recommend Newark fence. I am pretty disappointed with the lack of attention to detail and do not have confidence that this fence will last 20yrs, or even 10 years for that matter. Hopefully I am wrong, but given the state after just 6 months I am doubtful. read more

Newark Fence was the only outfit out of 20+ I contacted that wasn't price gouging after the freak wind storms that struck Northern Ca in early 2020. Mike was prompt with scheduling a day for a quote, more accommodating than all others in fact. Small schedule delay without a phone call due to the Covid19 outbreak, but I eventually was contacted and rescheduled. Install went off without a hitch. I got backyard fence (metal + wood posts recommended) installed last year, and during the winter season one section of metal fence got rusty due to rain. When contacted for the fix, they refused it to fix saying the rust is due to the gutter water overflow and it is not covered in warranty. I did multiple follow ups and still same answer. Started giving very rude & unprofessional reply in every follow up. The owner didn't even come on phone after couple of follow ups and when called the office, the employee makes excuses and not ready to listen. Never hire this contractor for any work. I could not even get a quote from this company.....they came to take a look at my property and take measurements over 12 days ago (fairly standard wooden fence replacement), and after two follow-up calls I still have not received a quote! Deepak showed up as scheduled and gave me some great ideas about my options. He left and promised that he would email me a quote on the following Tuesday. He didn't. I called two weeks later. Again he promised to email me the quote and he never did. It has been a month now. If Deepak is too busy, all we need is a call to let us know that his crew's schedule is tight. Due to the recent storms, a portion of our backyard fence fell over. Our family had been using Newark Fence for over a decade, so we decided to call them to get an estimate and perform the repairs. We originally spoke with Mike (one of their estimators) a couple weeks ago, and he provided a quote fairly quickly. We went ahead and scheduled a time for his team to visit the property to do the work. But as we planned to split the bill with the household on the opposite side we shared the fence with, we asked them to divide the estimate into 2 halves and issue one to each party. For some reason, this never took place even after we called Mike's mobile multiple times with no answer whatsoever, which we found very odd considering he had always been quite responsive in the past. We subsequently followed up with their office earlier this week (on April 17). We spoke with the owner, Sammy, who said he will look into the request and split + send the estimate. This never happened. When we followed up a second time (on April 19), we spoke with what sounded like an older gentlemen. He told us the same thing Sammy did a few days earlier. Again, there was no feedback. So we tried a final time today (April 21), calling Mike on his mobile first (which again was not answered), then their office (where Sammy did). We reminded Sammy we called earlier this week, requested a split of the estimate, asked why it has not taken place yet despite multiple inquiries, and that we needed it as soon as possible considering the repair date we scheduled is approaching. Sammy IMMEDIATELY started raising his voice at us, telling us we never signed any contract to finalize the work. We told him Mike never sent us anything to sign, as well as he himself did not bring it up when we called him on the 17th, but can gladly do so after we received the updated split estimates we have been seeking for weeks now! Sammy then got BELLIGERENT, claiming we were giving him attitude at the beginning of today's call when inquiring why he did not respond earlier in the week. First of all, we did not; we were simply asking to get our ducks lined up in a row before the actual work was performed. Secondly, it was a fair question considering we had been chasing this for quite some time now. Finally, rather than apologize as any ADEQUATE company in the service industry SHOULD for presumably forgetting a simple task, he starts pointing fingers and blaming US, his long-time client. Needless to say, our tone towards him changed at that point. Can you blame us? Sammy then stated arrogantly he was the owner of Newark Fence, that Mike does not make the calls, and he can request anything or make any changes he sees fit. He proceeds to yell at us before hanging up the phone. Moments later, he calls us back from Mike's cell (whom we cannot seemingly get a hold of), yells at us some more, and said he is canceling our job which Mike already scheduled. As stated at the beginning of this review, we had been a loyal customer of Newark Fence's for a over a decade. We had them service multiple homes of ours not to mention recommended MANY of our friends and families to them. For their owner to speak to us (one of whom is my 74-year old mother) in such a manner is just deplorable, let alone a total lack of humility, customer service, and professionalism. I wish I could give Newark Fence a glowing review. Deepak, Mike, and all of the guys who built both of our fences were super pleasant and worked hard. The end result of our 90 foot, 70 foot, and gate is fantastic. We are extremely happy with the final results of everything, but the road to get there was really not smooth. As we had just bought our house, we prioritized getting our two fences rebuilt. Deepak came out and gave us a reasonable quote for both, I got my neighbors to sign the contracts and agree to the pricing, and we set a date. The first 90 foot fence + gate was supposed to be a seven foot high, solid fence. The guys arrived, laid the concrete and put the posts into the ground. My neighbors wife was home at the time and noticed the posts they were putting in were six foot, instead of seven. We had clearly come to an agreement that the seven foot fence was going to be built, which was in my confirmation email weeks prior. We were offered money off to just keep the six foot fence, which we declined. They then had to dig up, and replant the seven foot posts to complete the fence. The end result was great, and we are happy with it. Both my neighbor and I ask for a receipt for our respective portions of the work, which even after followup calls, never arrives. A month or so passes, and the 70 foot fence is up to be done. I am not home for the construction of this fence, they finish work, I give them a check when I get back to the house, and go back to inspect the fence. Both fences were supposed to be built with 6x4s, as we wanted something that was going to last. The 70 foot fence was built with 4x4s. We paid for 6x4s, and after some discussion with my neighbor, we requested the posts get swapped out. We were offered money again to cover up yet another mistake, and declined. They sent another crew out from 8:30AM - 2:30PM to replace the posts, and basically rebuild the fence. Again, no receipt. Don't get me wrong, they do some nice work and we are happy with the end result. Back of house needs to seriously get their shit together, if not for the customers, but for themselves. They can't be making money needing to build a fence twice over. read more

I was initially worried that they were chosen for the contract cause we didn't know much about them and yelp reviews were spotty. But they did a great job! The boards were pretty much perfect! They were careful leveling each board every few and made sure they were very straight at top. Although they were short 2 posts, they got the issue resolved ASAP. Mike dropped them off at our place within the hour. They know what they are doing and we watched them like hawks. They didn't mind though! The guys sent by Mike were very nice and capable. Mike, the estimator, and Sammy the owner were great to work with. They have me a quote for a deck demo and rebuild. They listened to my vision and took it a step further. Initially the deck job was pushed out about 5 weeks, then I got an email from Mike saying they could start within a couple of days. I accepted and was blown away by the speed of demo and build-back of the deck which was done on a Saturday. When I saw the deck, I was very pleased. On Monday, Sammy and Mike returned and began to dismantle some portions of the deck. Turned out THEY were not happy with outcome and they worked on the deck until it was right to them. They cleaned up everything when finished and now I have a beautiful deck. Price was fair and the deck is a shining star in my backyard. We hired Newark Fence to install an electric sliding fence to protect our 2 small children from running onto a busy street. Huge Mistake hiring this contractor! The fence breaks down ALL the time and neither the manager 'Mike' nor their only technician 'Santiago' take any responsibility for it simply stating they can't figure it out. It takes over 5 phone calls and several weeks almost every time for them to come out to "fix" to honor their worthless warranty. Stephanie, this review does not apply to you. Got stuck with Newark Fence whom Lowes uses as their installer. I was told they were behind schedule because of the rainy winter. I called repeatedly for an installation date. Friday is when they do their scheduling. They kept saying the fence would be up by the end of the week. This went on for months. I gave them an ultimatum to call me, and they never did. So I stacked up the wood which had been sitting in my garage for months, called Lowes and had them take all the wood and 80 lb. bags of cement away. He shows up on time and gave me a reasonable estimate, He is very easy to deal with, not nickel and dime, the estimate cost less than 2 other places that my tenant got the quote from. The job was done professionally, the workmanship is great, the fence looks nice and neat. The only thing is the wheels of the gates, we requested for the double wheel per each gate, but they put in a single wheel. It took a while to take care of things and three or more revisits by workers to solve the problems. This I appreciate. Nevertheless, we were satisfied with the customer service that Mike shown to us, but still unsatisfied of the fence. Even though they tried to fix the problems, a few of the pickets now have larger gaps in between due to different sizing and replacing, making it easier to see through and less privacy (see pic). Had them replace one side of my fence. Price was competitive and the process was professional. But the quality of the material is very poor. During the installation I spotted one plank that was all frayed out and uneven and wanted them to replace it, the guy told me I paid for redwood and this is what I get!!! It's as if they gave me multiple options with good and bad material and I picked the poor material. See the pictures. Even where the old fence met the new fence, the guy doesn't even know or care not to hammer in nails (or screw in) as that will crack open the wood almost always. Ok, few businesses are perfect. I worked with Deepak who came out to give a bid back in May on three sections of two fences with two neighbors. We wanted to get competitive bids from other companies so contacted a few. Two never called back. One we used before sent out a horrible estimator... still waiting for a follow up call BTW... We felt "stuck" with Newark Fence but as they say, things happen for a reason. After some back and forth with pricing and a fence build date we secured their services and am very happy things worked out the way they did. When build day came, they arrived on time with all the material necessary. The crew that was onsite were great to work with and very professional. Cement bases were crowned nicely and any questions, concerns, or changes were addressed immediately. I will use them again in the future - actually contacted them for another two sections one of my neighbors and I 'thought' were OK - and will review again when that job is completed. They did a great job. Mike came to do the estimate and was not pushy at all. We had a 42 foot wooden fence. They were a little late for the estimate and on the day of the work but when they arrived they took care of business. I did most of my communication with Mike via emails. He offered better deals if you get more work done. They were also flexible on scheduling since it rained on the original date we requested. We had 2 guys who took about 6 hours to demo our existing fence and replace it with a new one and a new gate. His warranty was for 2 years for parts and labor. I got the extended warranty for 5 years parts and labor. The only thing I wished was that they cleaned up a little more. I asked them to sweep an extra round to remove any dirt and debris which they were more than willing to do but I still found some loose nails from the demo hanging around. They did a great job doing what I requested with the wooden gate and new hinge and latches. I would highly recommend them if you're looking for quality work and material. I contacted Newark Fence about couple of weeks back to work (deck railing, lighting, steps, benches with storage) on unfinished composite deck which was abandoned by another contractor. After my first call to their office they requested me to send pictures of the unfinished deck and my requirements via email which I did in very detail. Deepak visited my place to take measurements and after about a week of back and forth they send me a quote where it only mentions price, when I call them to check if they can go any lower on the price to which they said they cannot. 2 or 3 days after receiving the rough quote I decided to go ahead and requested them to send a detailed quote which doesn't include lighting and has extra charges for benches. Sammy (the owner I guess) says I am frustrated because I didnt get a discount and says he saved himself from lot of trouble. They were clearly trying to bloat the quote and take advantage of. Poor communication, zero transparency, no honesty and pathetic customer service. I do not recommend them to anyone for anything. I am glad I didnt go with them PS: Getting an honest and good contractor is very hard read more

I gave them a one because I asked them to come out and fix one of my fences which is only about 25 to 30 feet board on board to staple them back together they gave me a ridiculous price of $650 I told them I could buy the materials the gun and the Staples and do it myself for that price I asked him what size the Staples were and the guy I was talking to went back and ask the workers and they gave him the wrong size too long would have went through to my neighbors fence on the other side so I'm just telling you they did to defense of mine and they're falling apart they're shaky they don't put the post in the ground deep enough and you get what you pay for sometimes they give you a good price and sometimes are just too damn expensive first they come out tell me $250 read more

This company was hired as a contractor through my install contract with Lowes. Let say...this project has taken over a year...for a tiny little ramp up to the front door! First they just didn't schedule me in, then they lost the materials, then they installed the trex boards wrong (they are supposed to have hidden fasteners), then they only partially installed the railing, now...still waiting for the rest of my railing. Keep in mind each of the steps listed above has taken months. Would never use this company again. Full of excuses and no follow through. read more
