One of my companions had a hankering for a good old cheese scone and I have a penchant for independents, so the enormous baskets of scones drew us in.

A cream tea (cheese scones not with cream, and not necessarily with tea) will only set you back £5.95 too. It's a lovely setting, with interesting interior quirks- my chair was a little tired and uncomfortable- but my mates were absolutely fine, and when my hot chocolate arrived I quickly forgot. You can choose from fruit scones, date and walnut or cheese, and the sweet come with butter, strawberry jam and clotted cream- the cheese just with butter.
