If it wasn't for the Dillards, I would have given it one star. This place is deserted. Remember those pushy people in the kiosks that shove samples in your face for skin care? They now have their own store - in fact two of them and they are still pushy. They have made upgrades to the food court, but it doesn't help. I can't be too harsh on the Newgate Mall. For the 7-or-so years I lived up yonder way, the Tinseltown was my go-to theatre ... I love it. Also, there are some great restaurants on the periphery, such as Longhorn Steakhouse and Fuji Dragon. Still, I have some issues. First, there are a whole bunch of dinky shops around the mall (think tanning, nicknacks, nails, etc.), a liquor store, and vacant buildings ... doesn't exactly give that cozy mall feel. Inside, there's one big logistical issue: Not enough seating. I was there the day after Christmas, mind you, but I had a difficult time finding a seat (outside the food court) to sit and chill. For the good, it's clean, kid-friendly, and has some cool local stores (The Tie Shop, Pearl Milk Tea Club, Rooster's Fun Unlimited, Asian Gifts, Eborn Books, AA Professional Photography) to go along with the usual chains (Bath & Body Works, Pro Image Sports, wireless providers, Express) and the big department stores (Dillard's, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory, DownEast Home). And if you have kids, you'll want to have them take a ride through the mall on the Choo-Choo Express. It's a mall definitely worth checking out! read more

To start out with, Newgate Mall is one of the older malls in the North end of the state, and one of the top 10 oldest malls statewide. There are a variety of shops, including phones and data service companies. A couple of hip clothing shops with fun things and gadgets to explore, Jewelry stores, tons of tasty food in the main food court and the Bout Time Pub and Grill on the South Entrance. There is also a game store that sells retro games, and all new games and systems called Rooster's Fun Unlimited Next, the mall is not the busiest, which for the people who don't like tons of shoppers and may want a quiet afternoon, or such, it's great. It's a decent mall but has been in decline for a while. Both their original anchors (Mervyn's and Sears) closed a while back. Burlington Coat Factory moved into the Mervyn's but isn't the same caliber store as Mervyn's was. I'm surprised Dillards hasn't left especially since one of the reasons they chose the Newgate Mall over the Ogden City Mall was because they often picked malls that have a Sears. Now the Newgate has lost both of it's original anchors. The Newgate has also lost other major stores such as Chick-Fil-A and Subway in their food court. There are still some good shops and even the Hostlers Model Railroad Museum. There is also the Tinseltown movie theater. They are just not the same as they were when they had both Sears and Mervyn's as anchors. It's probably difficult to find retailers to fill up space especially in the era where online shopping and big box retailers are the norm these days resulting in many other malls closing. read more

First we tried to go to pretzel maker in the food court and that was horrible service, we ended up leaving our food there and going to a different place.. we decided to try Los Poblanitas it looked like a pretty good place to eat and my niece loves spicy foods.. they ended up messing up our order, and they were so rude and acted sick of everything that I just didn't bother going back up.. then later that night my niece ends up getting food poisoning! If I could write a review for just these places I would, but since I can't find them.. I had to resort to the whole new gate mall.. the rest of the mall was pretty good.. I think the customer service could have been better, but I liked the selection of stores and is a lot bigger then it looks from the outside.. we ended up going to a movie and the Cinemark was amazing! I don't know what it is about Ogden but people here just don't appreciate mid to high end retail (or dining.) This mall is sad. It depresses me. The anchor store is Dillards which I can't stand. There isn't a single store in the mall that appeals to my personal taste besides Sees Candies because I want to eat my feelings whenever I am there. The Cinemark Tinseltown is actually quite nice and is the only draw for me. I visit nearby malls like Station Park in Farmington and I wish and hope and pray that something like that could develop in Ogden but honestly I think JC Penney and Sears are more what the local demographic enjoy - which is a pity. read more

Kirstals: DO NOT go to this store. Me and mom were at the mall and they pulled us over. If they say to try out this "fantastic" product to make you look ten years young, please don't. They are so annoying and if you choose to go into their store it takes forever. And at first they act all friendly until they find out you will not by one of there overpriced products that don't work. So please do not go to Kristals. read more

The Newgate Mall is pretty much your typical mall. There's nothing special about it, at all. There aren't any restaurants so you have to eat at the food court, which ticks me off. They had the average variety of stores the ones I'm remembering now were, American Eagle, Victoria's Secret, Payless, Dillard's, EB Games, Mervyns, a movie theater, Spencers, etc. The tour bus dropped me off here with my co-workers because we had 4 hours off between shows on a Saturday afternoon, so I didn't really choose to go to the Newgate Mall, but if I lived in Ogden I wouldn't ever choose to go back. I don't like malls in the first place, so take it with a grain of salt. read more

The mall has the Utah standard mix of stores. Lots of clothes, some toys, craft boutique, food court, a theatre, etc. Also with the common thing in Utah it seems about 20% of the stores are empty. The mall scene has been struggling on and off since I was little. Sometimes the malls get popular and all slots are filled while other times it can be ghost town like. Having mentioned all of these things Newgate Mall seems to fit into the norm for all of it thus the three stars rating for it being average. read more

Small strip malls from the 1980s are underappreciated in our time. Yes, if you want to dress up (no kidding - if you're not AT LEAST in business casual you will feel out of place there) and go to the pretentious city creek center in SLC you will find a great array of very exclusive shops. If you want great food-court faire, a few great one-off shops, and the usual array of mainstays (Sears, Pennys, Dillard's, Ross, Lowe's, etc...); then come here. "Depressed Area", sorry, no. One of the least conservative and least "Mormon" areas of the state, yes. Grab some (incorrectly named, but great) Greek food at the food court and chat with the VERY friendly people at ANY shop. You can easily cool down here for a few hours, and not get bored. No pretense, and excellent for what it is. Doesn't try to be what it isn't. Talk to the woman taking care of the plants to find out how to best take care of yours. It's that kind of place. read more

The Newgate Mall is not a great mall. It does have an Eddie Bauer and Sears store as well as the train that makes it a 2. I hardly ever go to this mall unless Eddie Bauer is having a sell or you want something from Sears. The area around the mall is much better than the mall itself unfortunately. read more

The closing of Mervyns hurt this mall. That whole side is now kind of dead. Lots of empty space in the food court. I feel like Dilliards and the movie theater are what's keeping this mall afloat. Some good stores but not enough to visit unless you have one in mind. The Greek food is pretty good though. read more

Not sure what the other reviews are all on about but this is by no means a bad mall. It is clean inside and very manageable, unlike literally every other mall in Salt Lake. I kind of like these smaller ones, where you can see and walk from one end to the other without feeling like you're doing a 7 mile hike. Store selection is very standard (consider the area), including the food court restaurants, but parking is abundant and easy and there are some neat twists, such as the hot sauce shop (It's F*cking Hot! - name of that shop) inside the Quilted Bear, which is as unexpected and eclectic as you can get. Everyone there seemed remarkably friendly and it's one of the few malls I didn't completely hate and want to leave immediately. Overall, very solid, nothing offensive, but nothing particularly standout-ish, either. read more

The problem with this mall is that anyone who has been around Ogden for a while remembers what this mall used to be. It used to have all the best stores, there were no vacancies, every kiosk had something new and cool to sell, the food court was popping with tasty food, and the theater was the best in Ogden. Now there are tons of vacancies. The stores are constantly moving throughout the mall to get a better or cheaper spot so every time you come you have to find a map to know where you're headed. The movie theater is good, but is no longer the best. And many of the food court options have come and gone. This mall still has some great things to offer. They have some great shops still. Some are new while some have been around forever. You can grab boba tea, burgers, gyros, and other tasty options still in the food court. And the best part about this mall? It's not near as packed as it once was. If you come here on a weekday, it's likely that you'll be the only one in some of the stores. This normally means clean dressing rooms, better customer service, and the absence of that super rushed feeling you sometimes get when shopping. But still, I've experienced better - hence 2 stars. read more

I happen to live about 2 mi. from the Negate Mall. Prople arnt crazy about this mall but for Ogden its all we have. Our mayor "Godfrey" has been so totally focused on making Ogden a ski town. There is no focus on getting other businesses such as retail stores orrestaurants in the area. Everything is either ski oriented of 5 and dime. Unfortunately if people from this town want a variety the need to go to Layton or SaltLake City. The NewGate Mall, in my opinion, is a pretty good mall for what we have in Ogden. read more
