Namely all my issues are a result of the barber seemingly trying to speed run the haircut. He took about ~12 mins to give me a mid skin fade. In the process, my back of neck got several scratches and marked up, took way too much off the top when I requested to just trim the edges, and messed up my beard. Furthermore, maybe if I were a walk-in then him trying to rush through it could make some sort of sense, I came with an appointment. However, I won't be coming again.

What impressed me most was the stylist they booked my appointment with. Helene Pagan had to put up with me because I decided to go from hair that was past my elbows to EXTREMELY short. I went to Joleen at Bruno's. My hair is dark and I wanted subtle highlights that werent too light, which is how they usually turn out. On my first visit, Joleen and Bruno both worked on my hair and my highlights have never looked better. They are perfect. Joleen also cut my hair- she knows what looks good and is trendy, while sticking to your personal style. She is super friendly and remembers you every time you visit. If you have super dark hair and have a hard time finding someone to do your highlights just right, go to Joleen. I have searched DC and NYC, and she is still the best.

About 20 years ago, a neighbor of mine took me along with his son to get a haircut. Ever since then, save for when I was in school far out of state or had grown my hair to such a length that going to a men's hair stylist was just not reasonable, I have gone to Robert's to get my ears lowered. It's exactly what you expect from a classical barbershop: good conversation, friendly customers, and honestly excellent haircut at the end of it. Sometimes you have to wait a while, as Robert is the only guy actually working his shop, but it's worth it if you have the time, and he's willing to stay a little after closing hours if you rush in before he shuts the door.

I also wanted to find a salon that was familiar with Asian hair in the area. I booked an appointment a day before coming in, and pricing was explained to me over the phone. For a woman's wash and cut, prices start at $40 and go up depending on length and thickness. There is also parking in the adjacent lot by Men's Warehouse and behind the store plaza. When I arrived for my appointment, I was seated promptly with Estella. She gave my hair a thorough wash, and I told her the length I wanted, but basically gave her free reign with the cut and style. She cut my hair with meticulous attention to detail within the hour (mind you, my hair was more than halfway down my back and very thick) and at the end, said she would only charge me $45. I definitely left a tip, but the service at this salon is great, and the value is unbeatable for this area. I'll definitely be coming back to Central for my future cuts.
