Brought my two grandsons for haircuts today. While one was in the chair, the other was on the sofa with the magazines which were on top of the coffee table. I walked over to see what the older child was looking at and was disgusted to see his holding a porn magazine which was in the drawer in the middle of the table. It was a full, graphic, spread eagle shot of a woman's genitalia. Is this necessary in a barber shop when there were so many other magazines available on the table? To make things worse, the haircuts were terrible - one with a bowl cut and the other with a very bad shag. I am way particular when it comes to the way I like my hair cut. More often than not it comes out looking not 100% exactly the way I envisioned. With Vlad, I'd hoped I'd have a different experience. And one time, four years ago I did have a different experience --ie: that excellent haircut experience I was always looking for. In retrospect, it was only because I was very clear and insistent on what I wanted, and perhaps micromanaged the somewhat new, eager-to-learn barber in how exactly to cut my hair, that I came out pleased and satisfied. That was a rare occurrence, that perfect haircut. Since then, each and every of the dozen times I've gone, I've placed all my hopes in an exact repeat of that one-off perfect haircut experience. Unfortunately, that was wishful thinking. Each and every time has been a disappointment that fell short of what I thought it would be. Maybe my standards are too unrealistically high, and/or I could not be assertive enough in communicating what I wanted, but I've never come out of the shop 100% pleased and satisfied with the cut like that one time. The last few visits, Vlad himself cut my hair. And it always felt rushed. I had no time to tell him clearly exactly how I wanted the cut. The cut was a rough draft version of what I wanted. He didn't even take the time to do a shave of the nape and the sideburns, which I thought was standard, even with a longer haircut. Nor did he take the time to blowdry my hair properly and completely after the cut itself -- another practice which I thought was standard! The experience was the opposite of that which I had the four years ago! Am I asking too much. I know Vlad's shop is not a high end salon, but am I asking to much? After all, I'm paying for his service. (speaking of which I think he increased his fee substantially since that one time I received that perfect cut. So now I'm paying more for a much less satisfactory result!). I would go to another barbershop in the neighborhood, but there aren't even that many to begin with (a whole other issue in itself). I'd like to remain loyal to him, but after these mediocre cuts, I'm skeptical to go back I used to go to Vlad because I thought he was pretty good, and he was conveniently located right in downtown Nyack, where I go often. Nyack barbershop has been my go to spot since I moved down the street a few years ago. The owner Vlad has become a friend at this point and I return sometimes on a weekly basis. He gives an excellent cut. Listens to exactly what I want and executes to a tee. Sometimes the place gets busy so if you are not a regular call ahead. But the entire staff is professional and can provide the same services as owner Vlad. read more

Friendly people. To be honest , the barber did everything I told him not to do. Cut too low and my hairline was pushed back very visible of where my hairline should be. Nyack barbershop is your classic barbershop that makes you feel right at home! Vlad is just at the top of his game! I truly believe he can cut hair with his eyes closed! His shaves are also spot on. I usually go and get a haircut every week now and a shave every other, as the shave adds the ultimate form of pampering. Vlad is also an absolute pleasure to be around, he makes you feel right at home! Extremely disappointed. Went there on a Sunday, Vlad was the man. Took me right away, did a great job... Got me as a customer!!..... Went as a repeat customer..... Was treated poorly. Vlad was happy to see me I sat down as he had a customer...... I was waiting for Vlad sat down 30 min later, he tells me to go to another barber........ I explained to him that I was there for him...he outright said he couldn't take me, he had others coming in. I ask him why didn't he tell me a half hour ago.... no answer. OUTRIGHT TOLD ME HE COULDN'T TAKE ME. Forget this place. They want business and pressed you to return only to treat you poorly. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS SHOP.
