This moment happened for me at Gilda's Rum and I will remember it as one of the highlights of my trip to Stockholm. My girlfriend and I were walking along the street looking for place to have a cup of tea and a bite of something sweet to eat. Gilda's looked eccentric and whimsical from the outside and that drew us in. Comfy seating, mood lighting, soft music, a great selection of Kusmi teas and various pies and cakes? We struck gold. After retiring to the couch in the main area with our slices of apple pie and chocolate cake and violet teas, we sunk in for the evening. Something about Gilda's was so enchanting. The conversation flowed smoothly and and we were able to thoroughly enjoy eachother's company here. 30 minutes turned into 2 hours and we decided to get a salad since dinner time was approaching. The salad was hearty and delicious, with a VERY generous serving of goat cheese. Another hour passed as we got refills on our teas and the waitress came over with a free cardamom biscuit for us. We were so touched by the gesture and I was reminded of how delicious cardamon is. We stayed until a few minutes before the cafe closed and I ended up having such a lovely, peaceful evening here that Gilda's will always have a place in my heart.

Located on a largely residential street not far from the Metro Station and open seven-to-seven on Weekdays with slightly shorter hours on weekends, at least one Baker still present approaching 16h00 and presumably working on items for the next day, it was after browsing still-full shelves that six items were selected, the Café upstairs offering a pleasant place to dine as the majority of patrons filled seats outside. Using slightly different nomenclature than other Konditori around Stockholm, the Wienerbrod for instance dubbed Vaniljbulle thanks to the flavor of thick Custard inside its fluffy golden coils, it was with Princess Cake dressed pretty in Pink that one of the city's best slices was found, at least five separate layers including Cream and Raspberry Compote contributing to Pound Cake that was more buttery than others but still surprisingly light. Not about to pass on the classic Fika focused on throughout nine days in Sweden, Åsö's Cardamom Bun more leavened than others and thus open beneath the sugared top with a nice stretch to the Dough, it was with a dual layer of the same Raspberry Jam tasted earlier that a Katalan Tart shined while the Tosca also performed admirably, the now-predictable Chokladbol in this instance occurring by way of a "Lillebror" that replaced with Pearl Sugar around the Chocolate and Oat core.

Where they make their mark is in execution. Let's start with the drip coffee. You know how in "Pulp Fiction" and "Twin Peaks" a running gag is Coffee that is so good, everyone stops everything they are doing to comment on how good the coffee is? Aso's drip coffee could be that amazing stop-everything coffee. My only regret is that I did not have Kyle MacLachlan or Harvey Keitel with me to enjoy a cup. * * * Lunch was Raksmorgas, a standard Swedish dish of shrimp, fresh dill, lemon, tomatoes and homemade mayonnaise on thinly sliced rye bread. Aso's adds a hard-boiled egg to the proceedings. What was so good about this? Just about everything. The shrimp were small but packed with flavor. Imagine the flavor intensity of a salami, but in small cold shrimp. Fresh dill is always wonderful. Fresh dill can make cardboard taste good. The hard boiled eggs were perfectly timed. Bright golden moist-crumbly yellow yolks. Most restaurants give you over-boiled rubbery yellow-green yolks. Net of cooking time, the eggs themselves were a lot better than the old commercial refrigerator eggs we get in the United States. I suspect these were fresh eggs. The decadent treat was the rye bread on the bottom. This covered with homemade mayonnaise. The difference between homemade mayonnaise and jar mayonnaise is like the difference between a real kiss and a picture of a kiss. The mayonnaise drips into the rye bread. So do the flavor leavings of the shrimp and the egg and the tomato. The result? Bread to die for. Sopping up the good stuff from your meal with bread is always good. Sopping up the good stuff from your meal with superior Swedish rye bread is over the top excellent. * * * How is the bakery as a bakery? Love of the life got a walnut bread with her salad that was first rate. It was stick to your ribs stuff. One roll's worth of walnut bread and you were fed for a week. And totally walnutted to boot. On the dessert side, they do have decadent blow-all-the-calories desserts. But many Swedish pastries are in the same family with English scones. These are meant to be a snack by themselves. Substantial. Restrained. Subtle but worthwhile flavor. I had a Katalan which is two thin layers of lingonberry filling between three layers of substantial pie crust. Katalan means "from Catalonia" and naturally there is nothing more Spanish than lingonberries. (Cough cough). Not a good dessert choice after a heavy meal, but it would have been perfect with coffee at four in the afternoon. * * * Overall, an absolutely fine establishment. And even better if your world stops spinning for good coffee.

Fresh baked breads were being pulled from the oven and placed on the counter while we stood there deciding what to order. The sandwiches listed on the chalk boards all sounded good and the lady working there was very friendly and happily translated and described the choices in English for us. I ordered a sandwich with avocado, onion, cottage cheese, arugula, and lettuce and since you are given a choice of any bread they have available I chose a pumpkin seed bread. The bread itself was very delicious and fresh as were all the ingredients and this was the perfect healthy lunch. My wife enjoyed her open face sandwich consisting of Serrano ham, arugula, lettuce, cucumber, pickle, and mozzarella cheese. There are a selection of beverages in the display case and I chose a can of flavored sparkling water and my wife had a bottled smoothie. There is also water available for free behind the counter. The atmosphere here was friendly, comforting, and inviting. The food was delicious, fresh, and healthy. If I had spent more time in Stockholm I would have certainly returned to Bulleboden.

not sure if this is the right Ritorno Bageri that I visited, but this is my new favorite bakery in…read morestockholm! we went to this place conveniently located right next to generator stockholm, and visited over 3 times. the most friendly lovely staff, the most delicious treats - everything so so good! my favorite of all time was the pecan marscapone croissant danish that was genuinely melt in your mouth. the marscapone was fluffy and creamy, and whipped to perfection. the pecans were caramelized into a brown butter caramel that was so scrumptious. the pastry itself was flaky and buttery and so yum. the classic bulles that they make are also just as good - so soft and pillowy, with amazing flavor. the cardamom bulle was so spiced and delicious, with a sugary coating above it. the apple danish was also just as good, with a cinnamony jammy apple center and a soft custardy croissant base. the coffee here is also phenomenal. i always ordered a regular milk cappucino, and it was not acidic or sour at all, and had a deep nutty flavor. the savory meals here are also amazing. the swedish meatballs come at a great price, and so many add ons - pickles, lingonberry jam, bread and butter! the mashed potatoes are silky and buttery, and the meatballs are savory and drenched in gravy. the very cafe itself is so cute and well decorated, and lends itself to gorgeous morning light. there is ample seating outside, as well as booth seating inside. i would come here every day if i could.
