The mechanic checked my furnace, said all was well, but wanted to also perform a carbon dioxide test to make sure the levels were safe. he performed the test and said that he would have to shut the furnace down because it was unsafe at the carbon monoxide level that he was seeing on his monitor, 5 ppm. He also suggested that because the furnace was 20 years old, it may need to be replaced. He gave me an estimate as he left the house. of course I was concerned and immediately contacted several companies to come to my home and provide a quote for replacement of my furnace. Both companies that inspected my furnace said that it did not have a cracked heat exchanger, nor any other issues causing elevated carbon dioxide. Their tests revealed ZERO parts per million! I was told by the owner that his son was a "wizard". Well, we didn't get the wizard, we got someone who didn't know what he was doing (young kid).
