I brought in my wife's high heel which broke at a recent wedding we attended and a favorite docker of mine that was in need of serious stitching. I used to have stuff repaired often when working but now do not come in as often. The heel was repaired in typical fashion by inserting a steel nail through the shoe into the heel - it will not break again. My docker was stitched up nicely and I have worn it since with no issues. Quality of work was fine. All in was $50. A decent value I say. The only issue I had was the proprietor is not always available during posted store hours. If I could fine it a zero I would . I had a pair of mens shoes that the sole was separating from the bottom . They reglued it , charged me $40 , and after 2 wearing the sole began to separate again . A Miracle Worker in a Shoe Shop! Walked in with a wing and a prayer--holding my daughter's beat-up catcher's glove (YES, I know it's a shoe repair shop) and hoping for the impossible. She had a 16-game college showcase camp coming up, and the glove was barely holding together. I knew I was asking for the moon and the stars. This wasn't a simple relace or lace replacement--this was the stitching in the glove. A repair most people wouldn't even attempt. At first, they said they couldn't make it perfect--which I totally understood. I wasn't after perfect. I needed functional, and I needed it today. If duct tape had been allowed, I would've gone that route. Despite a bit of a language barrier, the man helping me asked if mismatched thread was an issue. I laughed. Matching thread? That was the least of my worries. He kindly explained how to properly repair it (which we didn't have the time or money for), and I said, "Honestly, just throw some X stitches in there--I need a stopgap to get us through the weekend." He saw the desperation in this mama's eyes, nodded, and got to work. Twenty-five minutes later--I kid you not--I walked out with a stellar repair job. I have used Newtown Shoe Repair for so many different leather goods - not just shoes - for 20 years now. They have repaired shoes for my husband, children, and me; also purses and luggage For those saying they are expensive - it's Newtown and their rent is high. Anyone saying they are getting their heel tips repaired for $10 or less are not going to find that price in Newtown. The owners can be a bit gruff, but I like to give locals my business and they have always done an outstanding job. So I didn't want to bring the same fate upon an unsuspecting cobbler, ya know "these things happen in threes" saying and all. Well I am here to say that my new cobbler is wonderful and more importantly still breathing. Now the prices for repairs were a bit steeper than I am accustomed to, but that's Newtown for ya. I paid $18 to replace the "heel knobs" on a pair of heels I wear for work. I would usually pay 10 bucks for the same service in Trenton. The craftsmanship however is better and seems to be lasting longer then the original heels. Besides, it beats buying and breaking in a new pair of heels! Careful, if you open the door without the magic words, you are stepping into a time machine than has only one destination date - 1955. The old machines, the smell of leather and wax, the shelves full of shoes and boots... Worth a visit, but of course the business owners would love you to take off your shoes and let them put on new heals and a shine. It is a bit expensive for basic service - now $25. for almost any repair. So, as the other reviewer suggests, drop off your shoes and walk around Newtown for a great afternoon. I like supporting small, local business and especially skilled craftsmanship. So, I took a pair of Goodyear welted shoes to be resoled at Newtown Shoe Repair. The cost was about the same as the manufacturer's price for "recrafting", so kind of pricey but acceptable. The shoes looked good when I got them back. However, it did not take long (a few weeks) before the new sole (actually a half-sole...) started to separate from the welt in the waist of the shoe (the area before the heel, under the arch of the foot). You see, the sole had only been glued on without any stitching, and apparently even that was not done well. I mean, I did not expect closed channel stitching, but I expected more than a glue job. On top of that, the soles have worn very quickly, leading me to believe they must have been poor quality leather. I am not hard on my shoes, soles should last me a couple years. I think the majority of their work is in women's shoes. Maybe they are good at repairing high heels. However, if you have good quality men's shoes (e.g. Allen Edmonds), don't take them here. To summarize: -Repaired sole with a half sole and heel replacement (not so damning if done well, but...) -Half sole was glued on, not stitched to welt -At a price where good quality work could be expected -The soles began to separate from the welt/uppers within a month after repair -The soles have worn out very quickly (fewer than six months) I feel this warrants recommending having your shoes repaired some place else. For what it's worth, they were friendly. No complaints about how I was treated. Note: I did not take these back to complain. It is entirely possible they would have repaired them again for free. I don't know. I was disappointed enough in the quality that I simply decided not to give them my business. And I guess after seeing this resole job too many times, to write this review. read more

Started with wanting my boots repaired. Ended with her screaming obscenities at me. In the middle was salted with gems like (and I wish I was kidding): 1. Were you born here? 2. When did you move here? 3. You should have more respect. 4. What are you? (Country I was born in.) 5. Calling me crazy in Korean. (I am Korean BTW.) Among the other highlights of the visit I asked if they sanded leather soles before applying a rubber top sole. Was told they did not, was shown a number of shoes, they explained - actually yelled that they know best have been in business for 35 years etc. Finally got her to calm down enough to listen. Re-asked what I wanted. She then explained that they sand the sole then put the rubber sole on top. That's exactly what I wanted! (Also realize this may be confusing to you as the reader. I guarantee it was more confusing to me.) -Customer Service Level: Comcast (This is the highest or maybe lowest rating possible) -Entertainment Value: Trump. (Confusing, bewildering, and you're not quite sure if you are crazy or they are.) -Repair Skills: The customer service and their attitudes were so bad, they laughed at my requests. They dyed my shoes a pinkish tan instead of taupe and refused to try to dye them again. I was even willing to pay them for the re-dye. I believe they were afraid to try and fail. On one other occation they refused to try to repair a strap on a shoe because of the elastic. When I went to pick them up a full week later, it took them a few minutes to locate them and the repair had not even been started. We won't use them again.
