Expert repair my opinion. Based on when I first brought my shoes to my "dry cleaner" that has a sign that says "we repair shoes". They started saying that it could take 3 weeks and expensive and that they would call to let me know "how much" But as it turned out they said "unrepairable". So I went on Yelp and found John's listed as a "Cobbler". The shoes came out perfect at a very reasonable price. I will be a customer for life!! read more

Ben has been repairing shoes in Hightstown for the last 44 years! He is a sweet man and we exchanged some small talk. His cash register really caught my eye; it was one of those old metal ones with the push down buttons and numbers that pop up. And as it turns out the only thing older than Ben's business is that cash register. It's been in Hightstown for 144 years and passed on from one business to the next. There's a little bit of history for ya! I dropped off two pairs of shoes for some heel work on a Wednesday and they were ready for pickup on Friday. One was a pair of boots with a slightly chunky heel and the repair cost $10; the other pair was one with a skinny heel, which cost $8. I was happy with both the repair and the cost, since both pairs of shoes were a good quality leather and in great condition it was nice to be able to restore them both with new heels for several more years of wear. read more

This man is a genius! I brought Ben a pair of well-loved leather boots who's soles had seen better days, by about 2 years! Within a week, and for only $10, they're completely brand-spanking-new! I can't wait to bring him more shoes! I also called the shop when I was having trouble finding the store; Ben was super friendly and helped me navigate to the parking lot with ease! I forgot to take a before photo of the boots, but the after is so flawless, you can't even tell they were repaired!! This is the first bad review I have ever written in Yelp, ever. Usually if I can't give a good review, I don't like to say anything.... you need to know what a mess this business is currently in though. The business is under new management and now called "John's Repair shop", using the same phone number. The store has moved across the street. When I dropped off my shoes, the owner was friendly enough, I needed simple heel re-tip. I came back on the agreed upon date, door is locked with no one inside, and a small hand written "back in 30 min" note taped to the door, the "OPEN" sign still prominently up front. I waited around a bit and no one showed up. I returned to my office and kept on calling, trying to figure out what's going on. No one picked up the phone until about 2 hours later. Light apology ensued and I was told to come next day. Second day, I called before I stopped by, to confirm someone was in, and once again, door was locked, "Open" sign up front, no one was in, with the small "back in 30min" sign on the door, and no one picked up the phone for hours. Day 3, I switched to a morning time pick up with a confirmation phone call, and guess what?! EXACT same situation as before!!! I.could.not.believe.it. Door locked, no one in, Sign says "Open", little note says back in 30min. I just spoke to the guy 20 min ago! Is he trying to avoid me?! I was completely flabbergasted....... What gives?! I just want my shoes! 3 attempts to pick up my shoes, with phone confirmation someone is in!!! I think I need to prep myself that I may never see those shoes again. BTW I paid for the work at drop off, and the shoes are nothing fancy, just a stupid pair of black aerosols heels, certainly nothing worth absconding with What a strange and horrific experience. read more

Ben is AMAZING! As soon as I walked into his little shop I knew I was in good hands. It had the feel of my great Uncle Carman's shop from Italy. Just by looking at my boot and my explanation of the problem, Ben knew exactly what was wrong with it and how to fix it. I went in yesterday feeling confident in his awesome skill. I returned today: my dreams come true! My favorite boots were fixed! All thanks to Ben! The boot's zipper kept popping open in the middle of the zipper (not at the bottom). He knew immediately that it was the slider of the zipper--not the teeth, like I had guessed. It cost me only $15 for Ben to fix my boot. It was a great and tiny investment into my favorite expensive boots. Well worth it. Plus now I know of an incredible shoe repair place to go to. Easy to get to and only 15 minutes from me (I'm in Princeton Junction). His little shop is on the corner next to The Shoe Buckle.
