The business I work for had a retirement breakfast reception on 12/31/2025. Muffins were purchased from Next Door Bake Shop. I cannot express the disappointment I felt for the recipient of the breakfast. There were four flavors of muffins that were absolutly horrible. They were very hard and crumbly and had no flovor at all. Looking around the room they were all left on plates and none were eaten. They were obviously left from before Christmas and not freshly baked. I would never recomment this place. read more

I went back a second time during my visit for the weekend and was always greeted with a smile. I read a lot of good reviews about this place and was looking forward to supporting a women and minority owned business. Unfortunately, I was left really disappointed in the service. We ordered three drinks - iced lavender tea and two hot fresh coconut lattes. For some reason, these drinks took so long to make. We were sitting outside for close to 15 minutes waiting for our drinks (it wasn't busy at all at the time - 2pm.) On top of that, our fresh coconut lattes tasted like a regular hot coffee. When I went up to kindly ask about it, the two employees that I talked to were not friendly and they were unwilling to help. I just ended up giving my "coconut latte" away. I really like this place! It is kind of a hidden gem in blacksburg. The place has a great variety of sandwiches and drinks. I haven't tried the drinks yet BUT the food is great and the prices are even better. For a breakfast sandwich its anywhere from 3-5 dollars and they have plenty of options for anybody's palate. Visiting from Detroit, this place was right down the street from my friend's place so we decided to go out for breakfast. I love the decor; very artsy with multiple different colored walls, a variety of seating including couches, cloth chairs, high chairs, and plenty of tables with books and games. It's a Tuesday afternoon and several people are working on things, having polite conversation. I ordered the vegan ginger teriyaki panini to go. It was pretty good! The lady ringing us up was new but nice. I can definitely see myself coming back again, perhaps to try their stuffed bagel, or smoothies, or bubble tea. We ordered soup, a reuben, and a bubble tea. I thought my reuben was pretty good, but the soup was god awful. It had a nasty chemical taste to it as if a plastic spoon had been left in it while it was cooking on the stove or it had been microwaved in a plastic. That being said, the person working there was great. Refund was tricky since I paid with Blacksburg Bucks, so she was going to give me five bucks out of their tip basket. I'm not going to take money out of the pocket of someone in food service, and it was only $2.50 net cost anyway, so I wasn't pressed about it. Nice to see that level of commitment to customer satisfaction though. I emailed the owner so they'd be aware about the plastic taste, but unfortunately have not received a reply back. So for now, I wouldn't recommend the soup. Tapioca pearls also all got stuck in the straw, which you don't see very often. read more

Sometimes I'm running a little late in the morning so I stop by Next Door Bake Shop for a quick breakfast or for a snack for the day. Service is always friendly, but this place does get busy especially in the morning. Going in they have a neat baked good display, where they show you exactly what baked goods they have for the day and how many there are. I am a huge fan of cookies, so I decided to get two cookies the Reese's cookie and the s'more cookie. The person also asked if I wanted to warm them up, and I happily said yes, since nothing is better than a warm cookie on a cold day. I also got a stuffed bagel called the perfect pesto and a hot chocolate. On another occasion I just got the next door club. The cookies had great texture and were super gooey! Both cookies were a little too sweet for me, maybe if I got a coffee it would have balanced out. Out of the two cookies I preferred the s'more cookie, because it was less sweeter. The perfect pesto was pretty good! It contains egg, tomato, cream cheese, and basil pesto. I liked it particularly because it was vegetarian, and the richness of the pesto and cream cheese was cut by the tomato giving it a good balance. The hot chocolate was also good, but nothing to special about it. Something rare is that this shop has paninis! I got the next door club and it was pretty good. The bread was nice and crisp. The sandwich also came with chips. Overall, I think this place is a nice little shop if your in the mood for baked goods, a bagel or a sandwich. I haven't tried much of their other items, so I'll definitely come back and give them a try. read more

Next Door Bakeshop was a hit among my peers and me -- it was the perfect meeting spot (laidback atmosphere, comfy chairs, solid wifi), and offered plenty of great snack-type options. I personally enjoyed getting bubble tea there (good flavors and not too sweet!), but I know folks who swore by their coffee, and others who really liked their muffins. The menu is large and varied, with hot and cold drinks, pastries, sandwiches, smoothies, and more. I had a sandwich once -- comes with chips, but you can sub them out -- and didn't love it. It wasn't bad, just average tasting; it will fill you up if you're hungry, though. That being said, everything else I've tried, I've liked! Did not expect the food here to be so good! I was only in Blacksburg for two days. Stopped by here on the first day and it was so good we went back for breakfast the next morning. We tried quite a large range items for only two days and especially enjoyed the bagels and paninis. The sun dried tomato cream cheese on one of the bagels was really really good. Packed with garlic flavor. Also we tried a pb cookie and it was so gooey and good. I surprisingly really enjoyed the taro tea!!! I asked for 50% sweetness and it really was less sweet while keeping the taro flavor. I was surprised because every other bubble tea place I've been to has very sweet taro tea even at less sweetness so this place is a gem for making it so well. Cutest bake shop in the NRV! I wish I had come here earlier. The decor is bright & playful. There's plenty of room to lounge, study, or just chitchat with friends. There's even a kids' area to play around in. The bubble tea sign & cupcake display totally caught my eye. Cupcakes are whimsically decorated. Flavors of both the frosting and cake are vanilla, chocolate, or buttercream. These cupcakes could definitely be competent contenders against Magnolia's or Billy's in NYC. Also, the drink choices: where else can you find a coconut latte? The drink has a light hint of coconut mixed with espresso. It's just right, not too bold. :) Other unique drinks include salted caramel hot coco, steamed coconut milk, and green tea latte. Even their logo is too adorable. I had to take one of their free stickers. If I were a student at Virginia Tech, I'd definitely come here every day. (P.S. They also serve breakfast sandwiches all day and hot paninis. It's a cute coffee shop with plenty of seating including comfy couches if you plan on staying away. I just stopped in to get coffee, but they're food menu looks good. Multiple vegetarian options and some light bakery snacks. I came in at 1:30 and most of the bakery items were sold out. I ordered the 16oz iced caramel latte but they were out, so they substituted the creamy caramel. The overall flavor is good but I would like to taste the espresso a little more. Price is pretty reasonable though and it was a short walk from my hotel. They're check in offer is a free cupcake with the purchase of a panini after 4pm, so I wasn't able to check that out. read more

A favorite of mine! They are always quick and helpful. Food is awesome. The asiago bagel and sun dried tomato cream cheese is the best.

Although I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because of how good their food & drinks CAN be, it seems like every time I come I get a different experience and oftentimes what I order has just been made wrong. I pretty much always order the Sun-dried Bliss Bagel on an Asiago bagel, which is amazing when it's made right but... most of the times it isn't. The last couple of times I went they barely put any cheese or cream cheese on it, and one time they forgot the cheese entirely. The drinks are also really good when made right, but I've had them drinks made wrong multiple times (blended instead of iced, flavoring forgotten, etc). After the first couple of times I came here, I began to always call ahead to order so that I could pick my food up in a timely fashion, but even when I do that I end up waiting 10ish minutes in line just to pay since they're always so understaffed. The low prices & how good the food can sometimes be keeps me coming back, though! read more
