We are in København to enjoy a few more days after a great week in Wien for Eurovision. This amazing spot is a hidden gem a few steps from our stay at Hotel Bella Grande. When ya see chairs/benches out front with people chatting and enjoying a cup of coffee, ya know this is the spot to pop into. No disappointment as food, service, and decor were awesome! "Everything is homemade with love" and flavor was some of the best in town. This was our first meal upon arrival in Denmark and it was definitely the right choice. Some tables are shared, and when we were there it was pretty full and we enjoyed hearing a variety of languages being spoken. We ordered off the "secret" menu, and the food was fantastic. It's very near the Saint Peder's bakery, so after you stand in line there (the bakery is worth the wait, but there's very little seating), head around the corner to Next Door Cafe. My husband found this brunch spot while in town and it was awesome. The food was great! The menu is small but the options were quality. I had a breakfast sandwich and my husband a breakfast platter. I forgot the name but we loved it! The owner (I think he was the owner) was there and he was pleasant. Must go, the decor is different and you'll be wanting to see every inch of the interior. I really enjoy Next Door Café. It's a "hyggeligt" place where you can get a coffee to-go or stay around and enjoy the cozy environment. They also have bites and snacks in case you are hungry. The music might be a bit loud at times, because the staff is hip and young, but just tell them if it's too much and they will take it down a notch. I had breakfast here on a weekday - ordered a cappuccino and a veggie sandwich. The veggie sandwich was yumsville (and huge). It had three big slices of homemade veggie loaf inside rye bread with a nice orange sauce. I asked about the loaf and it contains lentils, oats, carrots and a bunch of other good stuff. Fyi, the loaf is served cold in the sandwich! Also tried the breakfast sandwich (eggs, cheese and bacon). I liked the veggie loaf better! If you want the Christiania experience with going to Christiania, go for it. But don't except outstanding American breakfast. There's nothing wrong with it, but if you've been to the U.S., you will have had better pancakes, better bacon and better eggs. Also, this was marketed as a very affordable place on some websites but, while it certainly isn't particularly expensive, I didn't get the impression that price were indeed significantly lower than elsewhere. Had a filling breakfast here. Found it through Yelp. It wasn't close to my hotel but it was on the way to another event so I decided to pop by for a late breakfast. The setting is very casual and sort of hippy. You order at the front cashier area and they bring your food to your table when it's ready. They also played good music-not too loud though. I already knew what I was going to get - The combination/combo. The eggs were excellent. And I had the chai tea with it. There is free wifi. I came here because of the large number of positive reviews, and was very disappointed. There was unbelievably loud 70s and 80s music playing. You couldn't hear anyone talk. I felt like I was in a club with a terrible dj, not a café. I asked for porridge, and the person at the front counter said, "No." no explanation; just "No." I had to ask why to get her to tell me that they had stopped serving it at 10:30 (it didn't say that anywhere). The menu was very, very North American. You could find a similar menu in any local diner in the US. Our food took ages to come. When it finally did, it was absolutely mediocre. It also tasted like anything from any diner in the middle of nowhere in the US. The waitress took the syrup from my friend without asking when he was only halfway done with his pancakes, and gave it to someone at another table. The juice was fine, but there wasn't anything unique or particularly good about it. Overall, if you're hoping to experience danish food, don't come here. If you're an American who's living in Copenhagen and you're looking for a reminder of home (and perhaps why you don't want to go back), this would be the perfect place. Edit: Apparently this is an American restaurant. I did not realize that when I went here, so my complaints about it being too American are not justified. Lovely breakfast from a recommendation! We were greeted (solicited) from the street but planned on going in anyway! Sort of a small menu, especially for an almost vegan (ha), but I managed well with the pancakes of the day. We were sat downstairs in a slightly dank but very cute area with couches. I wish the music came down in the basement because they played some eclectic tunes. The raspberry and blueberry pancakes weren't much to look at, but they were definitely delicious especially with some real maple syrup. I expected the fruit to be on top, however. My friend got a purplish-reddish juice, which I liked because it wasn't sweet. It had a unique taste. Service was spotty, as we never got our waters and had to request silverware, but the prices were very reasonable for the area. The portion was perfect not to feel too stuffed. My fiance and I came here because it had such stellar Yelp reviews. I really wanted to like it, since the staff is SO friendly and kind, and they were playing Justin Timberlake inside the restaurant (always a great sign!). However, this isn't the best place to go if you are looking for an authentic Copenhagen breakfast. The staff was kind enough to scrounge enough blueberries for one more blueberry "pancake-of-the-day," and they made a banana pancakes for the other. The pancakes were dry, sticky and undercooked. The eggs and bacon were good. The beetroot apple juice had a gorgeous color, was very beet heavy but good. The best thing about this place was definitely the staff. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, even coming outside with us to make sure we had a seat (they have a couple benches and tables out against the wall of their building, on the sidewalk). read more

This place is super cute! We got there a little bit before they opened, but were able to sit outside while we waited and just people watched. The inside is pretty small with only a handful of tables and some seating set up outside as well. We both ordered the breakfast combo (eggs, bacon, and pancakes). Because they just opened, they said they didn't have the bacon ready and it would be about 15 mins, which we didn't mind. I also ordered a chai latte with chocolate croissant and my husband ordered a latte. Our food came out within 10 mins or so and it was delicious.
