Our reservation was set for 12, and they were able to push it back to 1:30. There is social distancing taking place, but you are not required to wear a face mask. I was extremely bothered by the lack of cleanliness of the bathroom, but didn't let that ruin my experience. We had a great guide named Matthew, he made us laugh showing us the ways. Whenever we got stuck on a course other guides had no problem walking us through it. I think you have to be at least 9 years old to participate.

Even Reba McEntire used it as a symbol of overcoming great odds. In 2020, I sought to make this destination I frequented regularly. This was early in the year, before everything shut down and mountains were too dangerous again. However, I'll always have the good times forged climbing multicolored stones. This has been a place of enlightenment, of humbling, and a rebirth of capabilities. This enormous location, is an endless playground. There are all the challenges that excite nearly every kind of climber. Nearly any age can participate. Then the cherry on top, of a mountain of cream, is that the trainers/leaders are eager to encourage excitement in first time climbers. That is what separates this location from others, the kindness and willingness to teach others to be a good belay. It's clear that they want to spread the excitement over such a transformative hobby. It was so affective, I married the last person I took there on our first official date. It was a Covid wedding in 2021, but that only added to the excitement of climbing this mountain, we call marriage. Thank you for this location and its people.

They have shoe and chalk rental options( but we brought our own. The staff was friendly and gave us a safety debrief and rundown of the space. It's designed super uniquely and has the various walls setup almost in a giant circle and an upstairs section. Their grading scale is based on a range (example: Pink is V0-V2, then blue is V3-V4 - I don't know if that's exactly what they had, but you get the idea), They had some fun route setting, but nothing that super stood out, and a lot of it felt similar. It's a growing community in GR though, so definitely seems like a great addition and very welcomed for local climbers. The space was bright, clean and they offered a hand washing sink along with ample cubbies for storage along every section. I definitely look forward to returning in the future and had fun checking it out.

As for the winter, they offer tubing and other winter activities on a large hill on property.  They also sell warm beverages during this time to warm up between activities.  Five Pines is simply a great outdoor place with numberous fun things to do.  Let the adventuring begin!
