My experience in I give this establishment a one star. Their customer service is atrocious and they honestly need to put someone with a better attitude at the counter. I recently had a key made at this establishment. It did not work I went back to have it fixed properly. Instead of fix their mistake and rectifying it they tried to charge me again for the same exact key that I just had made. I do not recommend going to this establishment. Disgusting way of doing business how is it that they are a ups pickup point that is open from 8am-8pm and they are closing at 7. People work and don't always have the luxury of coming home early which is why pick up points are created this is wild to me that they literally closed the gate in my face and told me come tomorrow, what so they can do it again fucking disgusting how they treat their own people and if I could give a negative rating I would. read more

Top notch hardware store in The Heights. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. They have everything including the kitchen sink! Great Benjamin Moore paint selection including Aura paints in all finishes. I ran out of paint today and they had what I needed, the 4 other hardware/paint stores I called in The Heights were closed or didn't carry the Aura line of Benjamin Moore paints. I'll walk the extra blocks to visit this store again soon. read more

This guy's key making machine doesn't correctly copy silver plated keys! This is after he tried to correct it twice. Go elsewhere! Also, this owner; who's always at the register, is petty and sexist! I went in for a refund & instead of giving me the bills I gave him, he gives me a rose gold dollar coin; which meant he never really wanted to return my money! He said he didn't have any more dollar bills, & I told him he was lying. He then proceeds to open a drawer to prove his lie; note he didn't open his register! It's about the principle of the matter & we all know he wouldn't give a guy a coin back! read more

I can't say enough about Richard and his kindness to us today moving our kids here from Chicago. In the 93 degree heat and humidity Richard said he had two small room AC units left and would hold them for us as we drove back from the Harlem rental truck site. Who does this? He was incredibly helpful and kind - traits that can be in short supply in this time in history. So thankful for Richard and this store! read more

They speak English, Spanish and, most importantly, the language of people who are completely hardware illiterate but who need "something" to fix "something" in their apartment. I have literally asked them questions like "a plastic thing-y that goes in the wall" or "a light bulb that is tiny and has two metal pokey things coming out of it." Recently, fiancé went in looking for "gloves a cat cannot bite through when we need to hold her to brush her teeth." Each time, they paused for a few seconds, asked each other for translations and then magically procured the EXACT item we had been picturing. (Kitty got teeth-proof welders gloves...) We hope that this is one store that manages to survive the trend of big-box stores displacing small neighborhood stores because it is a true Heights gem! read more

Very friendly service in English or Spanish. They know where the things are in the store(unlike other stores). They are amazing for helping you troubleshoot a problem. I've been to 5 other stores in the area and the others always leave me standing around awkwardly in the store confused about where things are. Best local hardware store in the area. read more

This is a great hardware store. The people are all helpful, very knowledgeable, and friendly. The prices are quite reasonable and fair. The store is very well stocked. I've been in this store twenty or thirty times in the two-and-a-half weeks since I moved into the neighborhood. Everything I've needed, they've had; from Murphy's Oil Soap to a carpenter's level to PVC piping cut to size, etc., etc., etc. A bonus: the bilingual (English/Spanish) staff has been very patient with my attempts to communicate in Spanish, even though each of them speaks much better Inglés than I do Español. Places like NHS Hardware are what make NYC the Big Apple. read more

I am a huge fan of DIY but consider all tools to be things, stuff or thingamajigs. As a result I am a huge fan of a small hardware shop staffed with people willing to explain what you need based on your deranged vision. So far they have had everything I wanted, and crap I didn't even know I needed. I'll be back, with a list reading "stuff to get the thing on the spot by the thing". Luckily, they'll figure it out for me. The prices are fair, but some items you should get elsewhere. If you shop around you'll be just fine. read more

This is the only hardware store for me! The store is always clean and organized. I always have an easy time finding what I need, either on my own or with the help from the knowledgeable staff. I've gone in for tools, odd light bulbs, keys, shower heads and a zillion other things over the years. They also saved me early one Saturday morning after I locked myself out of my apartment. Recently, I hired someone to paint my apartment and they brought with them all the Benjamin Moore Paint that I selected. At some point, we realized that one of the colors was not a color I had chosen. I called NHS, they made me the right color paint and delivered it for free. So, I love them even more now. read more

My new go to hardware store. A God send after the big hardware store in my area burned down and the mom and pop store moved. Started home renovations this summer and frequent here whenever I need a new paint color. They have everything else you need in terms of supplies and while I'm waiting for my paint to be mixed I usually find a bunch of stuff I would've forgotten I needed. The staff is pretty good about getting you what you need for your budget. And big plus: they're open everyday - including Sundays. read more

This is the BEST hardware store in the neighborhood. I am a painter/contractor who works primarily in Inwood and WaHi and I depend completely on these guys. They are reliable and offer great service and instruction for any size job. They have just about everything you could need and if they don't they will try to find a way to get it. read more

Great hardware store! As a complete dummy when it comes to fixing things and DIYs, they've always been very helpful and pleasant to me when I've wandered in there completely lost. The store is organized and stocked full of very reasonably priced things. It beats trekking to Home Depot! Their prices can't be beat. I also had a 2 keys made for $6 recently. These people are REAL neighborhood treasures, and I'm blown away by their amazing customer service. My car wouldn't start up a few blocks away this morning, (due to a faulty alarm that wouldn't shut off) and I needed a $4.00 battery for my alarm clicker, to see if that would fix it. I couldn't leave my car parked, due to alternate side of the street parking, and they literally delivered a new battery to me in about 15 minutes, on the street, at NO charge. All they asked for was the cost of the battery. The person who delivered it also helped me temporarily stop the alarm. I am so thankful for their assistance, and hope other people know about their super service and kindness. read more

Wonderful service! I ordered four gallons of Benjamin Moore paint on a Sunday, and the store delivered the purchase within a few minutes. (My apartment is about 14 blocks from the store.) Also, NHS will refund all unopened paint. A great experience. read more

Very good hardware store. It's clean, well stocked, and well organized. The staff is fantastic - friendly, helpful, and respectful. By respectful, I mean that when I go into the store with what is probably a really stupid question, they never treat me like I'm asking a really stupid question. They just help me figure out what I need to get and/or do to get the job done. And the next time I'm in the store, they remember me and ask how things went. They speak English and Spanish and the other day, one of the guys ran across the street to get someone in to speak Russian. read more
