Nicholas R. Smith deserves ZERO stars. A family member found him via a google search for a probate case that offered legal help for $50-$1500. He immediately charged her $3000. as retainer. We recently had to hire another attorney just to dismiss Nicholas Smith due to complete FAILURE to do his job. My family member literally paid him thousands of dollars and he did not return emails or phone calls. He has MULTIPLE addresses in Texas. He presented to the court hearing in his car. He failed to file completed documents. He has been reported to Texas Bar Association by multiple people. Believe the bad reviews. Like many other one star ratings, I would give Nicholas Smith zero stars if I could. Our family hired Nicholas several years ago to settle the estate of a deceased family member. From the beginning he was slow to respond to email communications, he would not file the appropriate paperwork with the court in a timely manner and often, we could tell he had simply copied and pasted from another document as the name of our family member was listed incorrectly in the court document.In addition, the date of death was also wrong. His inattentiveness to our case was obvious from the start as we had delayed hearings because of his incompetence. When we did have zoom meetings with the court, he appeared at the zoom meetings sitting in his car. (So unprofessional). I still wonder if he has an actual office. We sent him documents via registered mail using the address on his website only to learn he's never at the office to sign for it. (I think he has 3 or 4 different office addresses come to find out.) We were finally able to terminate our relationship with Nicholas Smith and secure a very competent attorney who has been much more responsive and less expensive.So much money thrown down the drain. My family has had the same experience with this lawyer as many others. He's had our mother's probate case since 2022, and nothing has progressed with it! He doesn't return phone calls or emails and always sends documents last minute and then has to reschedule the court date because he doesn't have time to get it ready! Tonya says the same thing to us as to others in their reviews, that she doesn't know anything about our case and will let Mr. Smith know, but nothing ever happens. We should all email the State Board about him and get him disbarred. He's obviously a scammer and drags cases out unnecessarily. DO NOT USE THIS GUY!!! HE'S USELESS AND WON'T HELP YOU! read more

Probate is NOT his capability. I hired him in October of 2020. YES, FOUR YEARS AGO. To this date, the case has not been resolved. The details of my unfortunate dealings with Smith are long. So, as not to burden you with pages and pages of narrative, I will sum it up by stating that, Smith has extreme difficulty with following up with his clients in a timely manner, If you email him and want him to follow up with you regarding the status of your case, be prepared to wait five or six months to get a response - IF he responds at all. If you call, be prepared to talk to the answering service that will tell you they will pass the message on to Smith (who won't call you back) OR be prepared to talk to Tonya who will tell you she has no idea about your case but will TRY to find out and call you back. He makes errors causing court proceedings to have to be delayed / rescheduled. He will send you an invoice demanding more money after you paid a FLAT fee. He posts an address on N. Goliad in Rockwall, TX but he "rents" a desk there or something. It's NOT his personal office. He also posts an address at 1650 S. John King Blvd which turns out to be an apartment / condo complex. I have read the reviews posted here and can confirm that I have experienced the same non-professional service from Nicholas R. Smith. I hired Mr. Smith on March 9, 2023 and as stated in the other "1 stars" we confirmed as of May 30, 2024, he has not filed required paperwork for my daughter's probate for their father's estate. I kept giving him chances because I really did not want to provide him with a negative review as the ones here and on Google. When hired in March, 2023 all of his reviews were great, but after not hearing from him for almost 3 months, I checked Google to see why I even hired him and found that the reviews had changed to everyone experiencing what I was experiencing as of July 2023. 1. First Tonya is an additional problem but not the problem, she mirrors the same unprofessionalism as her manager, Mr. Smith. Yes she is working from home, I do hear the children in the background the two (2) times she answered the telephone. When she finally answers the phone, her reply for not responding to the emails is "I am having problems with my internet". 2. The answering service confirmed that they provide Mr. Smith with all of his telephone messages and although they do not see him, they are actually in the same building. 3. He does not return telephone calls or emails. On Google one woman stated that she would have to call from a different telephone number to get him to answer. 4. He also became defensive with me when I questioned what he had completed although we had agreed on a flat rate. I was very clear that I would like a monthly invoice of services rendered. I did not receive a monthly invoice but received another bill which he claimed was in addition to the flat rate. 5. Finally, a Public Reprimand was recently imposed, and it was also stated that Mr. Smith committed Professional Misconduct. This document is dated January 23, 2024. It is obvious, I would not and cannot recommend Nicholas R. Smith's Law Firm to anyone that is looking for an honest, competent and thorough attorney. read more

I hired Mr. Smith to handle my late husband's will through probate. I don't live in Texas so phone calls, texts, and emails have to be our methods of communication. However, Mr. Smith doesn't return my phone calls, texts, or emails. I have contacted the Texas Bar Association about this. read more
