An oldie, but goody. Needed an outside extension cord for my car engine heater. Nicholson's is still there. Still has the huge supply of everything and all the staff to help you with it. This is a pretty great place. They have almost everything you could need hardware wise. I really do not like it when I go to one of the big box stores for a part and if you need help. Good luck. This place has knowledgeable experienced people that will help you out. Their prices do not seem to be much different than the big box stores. This place has an old timey hardware store feel to it, which I like. I noticed a lot of tradesmen coming in and out here, so obviously it's a good place. Apparently it's been around for a very long time. A locksmith friend told me to go here to get keys made. He said they do an outstanding job and they do it much cheaper than a locksmith would charge. He was right. The people here are professional and personable. Sometimes if they're busy, you have to wait a few minutes, but that's life kids. read more

We got new locks for the new house, and they rekeyed them so one key will open all of them. Who knew you weren't stuck with whatever you found in the big box store? This is an old fashioned hardware store with some of everything you might need and guys behind the counter who know how to do stuff. It was fascinating to find a wide variety of plungers in at least six colors. Do people color coordinate those? I can't wait to "need" something else. read more

After buying my own home as a newly-divorced woman, a friend suggested I go down and introduce myself to the guys behind the counter at Nicholson's. I did and that group of professionals has been my resource for over 20 years now. Once, I actually took my toilet tank down to them to say, I need one of these...and they installed the new part. I normally love Nicholsons, so I'll chalk this incident up to someone having a bad day. You can always find the people who KNOW at Nicholsons, but not always people with good personalities. Today I walked in to buy a few nuts and bolts. I brought a bolt in that I wanted to match and asked the man at the hardware desk to help me out. Told him what I needed and showed him what I wanted to match. He comes back with the wrong bolts... When I pointed it out, I was told "These are bolts, those are machine bolts, you asked for bolts. Now I need to rewrite the order. You need to be specific, Son." Now, I realize I may not know the correct bolt terminology, but when I bring in EXACTLY what I'm looking for, you can't blame me for that. Treating me like an idiot in front of other customers is also uncalled for. I will be going to Ace from now on. read more

I've been visiting Nicholsons for about seven years they are 2 miles from my home. It's not always the most cost effective so I won't say I get all my supplies there. But for great technical service and unique or retro needs there offerings are superior. Each retail clerk is anything but that...they are knowledgeable about there products and have a passion for the business they are part of. You can call them on the phone and they can tell you or guide you to a solution to your problem. I prefer to deal with them for challenging tasks. Sure I'll still shop menards for basic lower cost items but Nicholsons is my first choice for hard to find items, custom cut glass, plumbing retro fix dilemmas and such. They offer extraordinary value. Visit their lawn and garden shop for lawnmower service, sales and such. Just a couple blocks away. read more

Old fashion style hardware store...if you cant find it here, you wont find it anywhere...but they will order it for you....hubby needed the smallest known O ring for an old nail gun ( trigger pin ) he had, looked on the web, all over town, chatting with other "hardware" guys at the big box office places and referred him to Nicholson...found the O ring, in stock, I found new cabinet hardware, and other things...our first place to go to to get the odd things needed.. read more

I had to get a Yale double-cylinder lock re-keyed. Nicholson did it while I waited and it was only $12.00 or $6.00 per cylinder. I also bought a 100-200-300 watt Mogul-base light bulb from them that was $2.00 cheaper than Grainger. Thanks Nicholson Hardware. read more
