Nickel Plate Arts

This place -- which happens to be a cluster of old buildings that house artwork and artists studios -- satisfies the peeping tom in me. No, not in that way, you sicko. What I mean is that Nickel Plate Arts is open for everyone to explore at their leisure, so visiting this place means entering houses, and climbing up stairs, and walking into real working artists studios. As in, real artists use these spaces to create their work, as is evidenced by the acrylics and paintbrushes and easels that are left out in the open for you to see. I'm kind of surprised that people like me are just allowed to tour this place, but that's what makes it so special: it's like you're getting a behind-the-scenes tour of an artist's daily life. In some of the rooms, the artists' artwork is displayed with price tags, if the mood strikes you to buy something. There is one person chilling at a table in one of the buildings, next to a table of complimentary coffee and tea, so I'm thinking this is the person you give your money to when you want to buy something. It's all very relaxed and zen, if you want to know the truth. It's like, here is a place to view beautiful art: come and look upon it for free and without any guidance. Now, this is my experience of Nickel Plate Arts during a casual Saturday afternoon -- I'm sure it's different when they have gallery openings and such. I also saw flyers lying about for different events that are held here. There is also a Little Free Library outside one of the buildings, which is awesome.

This is such a lovely entrance into an artist world.

As this was my first time visiting this art gallery I was very pleased. The entrance is very welcoming, warming, and inspiring. With each new turn of the eye there was always something new to behold. As you move from room to room it is like being transporter from one land to another new land. The best part about this little gem is that they are kid friendly! How is that for fabulous! And I as I perused around I found out they have seasonal art events and gathering, some strictly for adults while others are more fun for the whole family. One more awesome find was as you approach this darling historic house, you find a cute little library that could double for a faeries mansion. This is a library that is free for all. I am really stoked about finally visiting this beautiful house in Historic Noblesville. I invite you all to visit this adorable imagination inspiring artists sanctuary as well. And don't forget to continue to support your local communities!

So I had the pleasure of attending Nickel Plate presents: In Perspective. Featuring local artist and their abstract art pieces. This event was particularly special to me because my son was one of the featured artist. Opening night was January 4th and runs through January 26th. Time 6-9 p.m. The event is free. They served light refreshments which I was incredibly impressed by the versatile selection. For a vegan like myself we are often forgotten about. Refreshments included: mixed veggies, hummus, grapes, crackers, cheese, meat, cookies, water bottles and wine. Seasoned artist were also present in their studious to showcase their work and all art was/ is available for purchase. I supported various artist by buying post card prints. Aside from paintings, there was a wood sculpturist, handmade knitted hats, drawings, handcrafted bowls and teacups. Everything was so beautifully done. There were 2 levels and two structures/ homes showcasing pieces. To top off the evening a live musician. Bring a couple of dollars to tip! He kept us entertained all evening. I also appreciated the host at the door to answer any questions. A lovely evening was had.

If you want a proper art experience and a patient art teacher, Maren's Art Lab is your best choice…read more I booked a kids birthday party at her art studio and she was so patient and understanding with all my questions, comments and such. We had a 2 hour party for about 14 kids. She had a helper in as well. The studio at the Main squeeze was so spacious and well lit, Kids were placed at a safe distance on each table. She had them start out with decorating goody bags and then introduced tracing the outline, tracing each parts and then gently guiding them towards the painting the colors in. She and her helper did their best to help kids out with the tracing and outlining. She kept the kids very engaged and as the canvas dried she made an air dry clay unicorn horn with them. Of course every 6 year old wants to put various colored crystals on their unicorn horns! As everything was drying she did a small song/dance party for the kids. The goody bags were filled with candies and cute stuff. My daughter loved her birthday party and her friends enjoyed it as well. Highly recommend this place for any kind of art parties and seeing how patient of a teacher she is, if you are inclined towards art classes, she would be a great choice.

I enjoyed the fact that the kids had a gallery exhibit on the last day so that parents could see what they had done over the course of the week long camp. The instructor was great with my kids. I LOVE this studio - Nica was an awesome instructor (she's also the studio owner), and I immediately felt welcomed and like pottery was something I could do. The studio has a way of drawing in wonderful people and creating such a warm, welcoming atmosphere - everyone is so helpful and kind and you really can build a community here. I had such a great time during my first 8 week class that I've ended up signing up again and again for more 8 week classes -- I'm on my 4th one now (these last 3 sessions have had Jeff as the instructor and he's also fantastic!) -- and I've brought my husband with me for us to do a one night class for Valentine's day. We've even got plans to come back with our friends the next time they're in town.

My husband booked us a reservation here to celebrate our anniversary- I didn't know what to expect,…read morebut it was so much fun! He signed us up to make a canvas and charcuterie board. We started by picking out our paint colors and then learning how to properly combine them to get ready to put on our board. They showed us different examples of how we could pour the paint to come up with different designs/looks. It is so cool to see how many different ways you could take your creation. It was so cool to see the finished product from the day and I'm even more excited to see how it looks once they finish their work (I think the boards get a resin finish and not sure what else!) We had Tara and she helped make the experience super fun. She helped with paint combinations and also gave thorough instructions throughout, so we felt confident when we had to put paint to canvas. The owner was in the studio as well and she was so friendly and enjoyable to talk to while working on our art. I feel like there could be so many cool combinations, and I wanna come back to make another project in the future! They do take walk-ins as long as there is availability, but you can book online to ensure they are ready for you. Highly recommend checking this place out!!
