My bug after glass "glitter" on wings
    Mark W.

Preparation may have been good here. I came in for a 2 hour class not really knowing what I was going to be doing or making. Meredith, the only employee, is such a positive, can-do personality, she inspires without over directing. After going over safety protocols, she explained the basic procedures for cutting the glass. All kinds of glass colors and shapes and things are available to use. Wax paper "boats" hold the glass material nicely. Same boat you may have gotten to hold your chili cheese coney dog in at the county fair. Very nice work space and safe. I thought the glass would be more shattering, but really it's more like snapping. I ended up making a bug, but will have to wait a few days before the bug is "fused" or melted down in the kiln. She only has so much kiln space. 2 hours went by really fast, it's so fun being creative. Meanwhile, over 100 artists rent spaces in this complex and I decided it was time to check out more from this terrific part of town.

Aside from the extreme heat required to sculpt and blow glass, my experience here was amazing! Lauren (I'm not sure if that is how she spells her name) lead our class and she was a great teacher. She smiled the entire time and didn't mind repeating the instructions for each and every student in the class as she lead us through the process of making our very own, uniquely designed, glass paperweight. I can't wait to see how ours turned out when I pick them up in two days. I'm already looking forward to taking another class, for glass blowing this time. Hopefully, Lauren will be there again. She had great energy, which made the process feel less intimidating and very fun.

GRT Hot Glass Studios - The Best Way to Play with Fire (Safely!)…read more If you've ever wanted to wield molten lava like a wizard but also not burn your eyebrows off, GRT Hot Glass Studios is the place for you! We took a two-hour class and made glass hearts, and let me tell you--watching a blob of fiery goo transform into something beautiful (and not just a puddle on the floor) was magic. Our two instructors were phenomenal--equal parts patient, skilled, and probably part-time firefighters just in case. They walked us through every step, from gathering the glass to shaping it like pros (or at least convincing us we looked like pros). At one point, I was so focused I almost started referring to myself as a glassblowing master, but then I remembered I had to be reminded not to touch the glowing red-hot end of the rod. Highly recommend this experience! Whether you're an artist, a thrill-seeker, or just someone who wants to impress your friends by saying, "Yeah, I totally made this heart out of 2,000-degree molten glass," this class is for you. We had an absolute blast and will be back!

I had been shopping a new (glass) piece prior the upcoming 420 and I was lucky to find this place!…read moreThere was an older recycler that had been in the shop for awhile; it was in line with what I was looking for but a little bit beyond what I have ever spent on a dab rig. When I contacted the owner I figured 'what the heck couldn't hurt'... This one was my 'reach' like those college apps you fill out knowing there's like a 2% chance you get in. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was the owner very down to earth, but he was willing to work with me on price so that it was too. He sent it out to me the day after I paid just like he said he would do. Everything was well-packed and the piece was exactly as it appeared in the listing (only prettier in person lol). So I wound up with a gorgeous rig that also more than ticks my function boxes, when I really thought it was going to be out of my grasp going in. Lesson learned, never hurts to ask. Worst anyone can really do is say no, or maybe in some cases insult you; luckily this was a much more knowledgeable/professional person to deal with. If they have something you like and/or are on the hunt for, I would highly recommend TheGlassMule based on this experience.

If you want a fun activity on the Indy Northside, look no further!…read more I came here with a group of colleagues for a fun night out from the lab. It was a nice social activity that also allowed moments of quiet to focus on your piece. I find this dynamic kind of nice because I'm not one to talk endlessly even when I'm with my friends. They have tons of pieces to choose from, ranging in price and size, so you can make this activity as much as you want to get out of it. There's no studio fee, so glazes and kiln services are included with your price. They have just about all the colors of glaze, which have a display on the wall by the glaze bottles. The staff are all very friendly, Brooke and Fernando were especially attentive to us throughout the evening. They made sure to help keep our workspace tidy and helped with some glazing and artistic touches. Importantly, we never felt rushed with the process, which helped us feel like we could make something we're proud of. They also have some glass fusing stuff as well, so you can make some kinds of mosaic glass lamp shades (or at least that's what was shown throughout the space). I'm curious how that's priced, because that would be another cool outing! Pottery pieces take about a week to be fired in the kiln, so I don't have my masterpiece back yet. I'm very excited to receive it! They also provide shipping, so if you're a little further away, you can still get your piece. I'm sure I'll be back again before too long!

They have a LARGE variety of different items to paint (as well as different offers as well). The employees were attentive as we painted with filling us in on the process, getting us new brushes, etc. They also offer adult beverages, which is a nice touch for date nights!
