Love this newly found spot! Service was quick! Our server was friendly. The location is easy to find with plenty of parking around the building. We had just come from packing up 2 campsites, and kayaking one last time, and we were tired and hot and hungry. Kids got pizzas and a chicken strip basket - all report the food was excellent. Adults 1 & 2 got the Timber Topper, and it was fantastic (my burger was cooked perfectly and the egg and bacon really stood out, tots were crisped and seasoned well. Adult 3 got Nicks burger and she reports it was tasty! I liked the laid back country vibe. Love that kids are allowed until 9pm. I highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

My family and I ate dinner here on 10/18/25. When we arrived we sat at at a table and a server came over to take our drink order and give us menus. I ordered a Whiskey and Coke, and my wife ordered a Lemon Drop. Both drinks arrived fast and tasted great. The server then took our food order. I ordered the Spotted Owl chicken burger, My wife ordered the Timber Topper Burger. And our daughter ordered the build your own baked patato. All the food was great. I also ordered another drink. I think it was a seasonal drink called Peanut Butter Cookie. It was a hot coffee drink that tasted great. The service, food and drinks was great. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends visiting the area, and will definitely be returning again in the future. read more

This is a great spot in the middle of the woods. It has a good bar w/ plenty of beer choices on tap & bottles. Plenty of seating for bigger parties. The grill serves an array of burgers, sandwiches, other bar food items. They have some good looking specials on Friday & Saturday nights. Tonight an open faced roast beef sandwich w/ mash &gravy. There is live music some night s as well. Today a large party of bikers eating and relaxing. Beautiful ride to get here. My hubby & I stopped in for a lunch. He got cod fish & chips he chose onion rings as the side. 3 pieces fish & plenty of crispy onion rings. Both were good. It came with toast & slaw. I chose a burgers/American cheese. Served with FF. Good size burger. Crispy texture outside with a nice soft bun. Lettuce tomato onion all fresh. Gf pretty good. Service was attentive & fast. All in all a good experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how the French dip was! Had the option to add sauteed mushrooms and peppers (along with the onions) and it was too good. However, all in all I wish there were more menu options. But still, it was good. read more

Here we are back at Nick's with a new season. We really like Nick's. It's just down the hill from where we spend the summer, here and there. We were so disappointed when we heard they were shutting down because of covid and then happy when we heard that they would try again and reopen. We made our first visit back after the winter. Wow! Prices have really climbed. Now I know times have been tough but these prices really jumped. Thus, other than having the specials of the night, we can no longer justify eating dinner here. So sad. Time to retry the restaurant around the corner. read more

Passed this place so many times this summer camping at Merrill, so when we were staying at a friend's cabin at Merwin I made the decision that we'd all finally stop in here. Really glad we did. It's a cool little dive bar spot that's probably really great during normal times. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our meal here. We got pints and a round of $1 jello shots to start. I had a burger with an egg on it. Never done that before. It was really delicious. Plus they had beer battered onion rings. Sold! Super happy with my dinner. Fries, burgers, battered fish, all a hit. No issues with service either. Everyone was really nice. We were all like, I bet this place is great for breakfast. So yeah, we might be done for a while, but once it's nice enough to get out again I'm sure we'll end up here. read more

Up from Oregon picking up some items from nearby camp location. Ready for dinner and where to go, she suggested here, even though she has not been. A busy Saturday night, the lot was packed, but when we got inside, no problem and had a booth in moments. What to order: special tonight was Bacon-Wrapped Filet, three of us had that, I ordered cod with fries and Cole slaw. Because they were swamped and running late, got an order of onion rings as well as an appetizer. The food was awesome, steaks tender, juicy and done perfectly, in fact so perfect, my wife that usually shares a bite, completely forgot about sharing and cleaned her plate. Cod and fries, yummy, and really loved the fries. The staff: very welcoming, were attentive the tables in no time to deliver menus and water. Took our orders, kept us informed about dinner progress and made sure both beverages and things were all good. Coffee cups never went empty and were wonderful. This place definitely was full of locals snd everyone was treated well. Gave nice tips to the server and also tipped the cook. Perfect ending to a hard working day. read more

Been to Nick's maybe 5 times now once we have a place nearby. Last time there the service wasn't very good from a server and noticed the same from the same section. I'm not one to write one negative review after getting great service before but another server took over and rectified the situation. I unfortunately didn't get her name and she's been there all the other times. I'll find out next time and give her kuddos. Every time however the food has been great and can be super busy and they do a great job. As for food options that have been commented on, don't change! read more

I spent 4 hours kayaking Swift Res in search of trout and was cold and hungry. I drive by Nicks all the time on my way to the lakes and decided to give it a try. It is larger on the inside than you would think and has a laid back NW look and feel. I sat at the bar with the locals and had the fish and chips $10 and an IPA $5. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fish which was cooked perfectly. The fries, onion rings and toast were good too. The bartender was nice as was the cook. The value was off the hook. I made a stop here on a dive bar tour of SW Washington. I love the clear fridge doors displaying their beer selection. This place was full of characters the night I was there. So Nick's is a regular stop back when I rode those roads and it was nice to stop there and have lunch after coming down out of the wood post overnight backpacking trip. I am a vegetarian most of the time but will indulge in a burger once in a while if the place warrants it, and Nick's is that place. The Timber Topper minus bacon (my hypocrisy has limits) is amazing, tots are great, beer is cold. My only gripe is sometimes service is slow but then you gotta remember is a small diner in a small town that is just along the way, patience is good here. You roll here, you accept everything as is, including the superb bar food, rotating beers, down-home, no-nonsense service and approximately 99% patron population that have tattoos and do not give a single you-know-what who you are and what you got going on or what your thoughts are on how much they smoke. If you do happen to be in the area and want some solid food in generous portions, find a parking spot near the motorcycles and farm vehicles and come inside with your humility and good manners strongly in tact. I was invited to meet some friends last night at Nick's for drinks and to play billiards. I am 28 years old (older than those I was meeting), and have had my newly issued Washington State ID since 2017. I have never, in the two years that I have had my license issued, had any issues when presenting my ID in public establishments (Las Vegas, Vancouver bars and marijuana dispensaries) until last night. I presented my ID at the bar per usual (I was only going to get a soda anyways as I was DDing) and the bartender inspected it over and over, took it to the other bartender, took out a book and looked at it another 3-5 minutes until they brought it back and told me I had to leave as it was "not a valid ID." I asked them to explain why they felt it was not valid and they said because the barcode was in the incorrect spot, the numbers were on the incorrect side of the picture and it didn't match up with their book. I told them that I have had that ID for two years and received it straight from the DMV. The bartender told me, in a very condescending manner, "well, I guess you're gonna have to get a new ID, now, won't you?" I was shocked, but in a polite manner left the bar and joined my friends telling them about what had happened. My boyfriend went back to get the beer he ordered and they refused to give it to him unless I left "their" bar. I was almost in tears because of how embarrassed I was. We ended up leaving immediately and went to Timbers where the bartender gladly accepted my ID without any hesitation. I happened to see one of my friends IDs (who left Nicks with me and was SERVED) and she had the EXACT SAME TYPE OF ID AS MYSELF. I understand that establishments need to be careful about not serving minors, however, to be so rude, condescending and then 86ing me from an establishment, that was uncalled for. I was looking forward to enjoying my first night at Nick's with friends as I have heard great stories of this place, however I will not be returning. My ID expires in 2023, but even after I "get a new ID", I will not return. Nick's had a wonderful group of 11 of us who ended up leaving together and spending our money up the street at Timbers due to the treatment I received. Maybe it's because I looked out of place (a "city girl" as my friends call me) or that I was a first timer, but I think instead of me "getting another ID" Nick's should look into asking the liquor board to return to Amboy with an updated book with the newer types of ID. I just went to Nick's today and OMG it was GOOD! I had their bacon burger with pepperjack cheese. For someone who rarely orders a burger I was expecting just a burger...but this was not just a burger...it was the best burger I had ever eaten!! I could hardly keep it off my lap. The fries were excellent and the server was great too. It was just one of those days where I didn't care about the calories and boy oh boy am I glad I picked this place to divulge in such a meal. My friend had a BLT and she enjoyed her meal as well. Get in there and try some good food! read more

We're recent transplants from Nebraska to Amboy and REALLY like this place. Excellent food and many awesome beers on tap. Unfortunately, it's closed (again). Does anyone know when they'll reopen? We miss talking to the staff and of course, the excellent food and beers. read more

this review is strictly for breakfast. breakfast hours are from 730a.m. to 1130a.m. the menu is fairly small ....see my pics. we were greeted and brought menus and asked for drinks immediately. then left alone for a while to figure out our meal. a different waitress came to take our food order. we ordered the barnyard and the chicken fried steak. then 20 minutes later our original waitress came by to take our food order. ummm okay. after we placed our order it took a little over 30 min to get our food, and there were only 3 other tables occupied. when we received our food I was not impressed at all. the country gravy tasted like flour, the food was very bland we had to add a lot of salt aND pepper. the toast was swimming in melted butter. the onions and peppers were raw in the one dish which made the taste and texture kind of gross. I don't think I would go here for breakfast again or if I did I would just get a meal that didn't have any gravy what so ever. I do want to try lunch though sometime. read more

This little stop in the road has come a long way. New ownership/management is doing a great job in building the place up. We made it our destination yesterday for a Sunday bike ride. Attention all riders: This is the place to stop!! It's a beautiful ride from Vancouver, and the return trip can be on a different route. Our server was a sweetheart, the food good bar grub (Don't miss the Logger Dog), and the beer was cold. Nice draft selection and full bar. This is just about as badass as Northwood in Battle Ground. This truly is more badass than any other place around Amboy and Yacolt. Kinda the only restaurant around here where I live. We went to Nicks last night (September 24) and we won't go back. The waitress that took our order wore her mask. But the next waitress that took over her for the rest of our 45-minute stay had her mask around her chin. Multiple people were entering and walking around without a mask and no one said a word. The tent doesn't have any heaters or lights so that's not an option. No one should risk their health or death for a meal. Nicks doesn't care about the health and well-being of their clientele or the community. Shameful. read more
