It's a Cinderella story and the fairy godmother decided to make changes for the better, I wish others would follow suit....uhhuum Port Adelaide...hellloooo. Now to The Cooks Pantry...delightful in a word. With so many competing cafes, bakeries, coffee houses, there needs to be an edge and by George I think they've got it! Loaded with stock much like a mini version of the Store in North Adelaide but have diversified to holding cooking classes, which I am going to seriously check out and soon. Eat in or takeaway or if your feeling adventurous get the ingredients yourself and cook up a storm at home. Be sure to scatter the funky empty jars all over the kitchen just to prove you've made it yourself though! Yes, BUY SOUTH AUSTRALIAN is written all over The Cooks Pantry, as organic and as close to nature as possible, this is a hit.

A few Italian people I know say it's a bit overpriced compared to the western suburbs, and I can see that it may be for some items, but I think they are not too bad. The layout of the store is typical Italian grocer, with as many items as they can fit and everything grouped logically, which I like. They have flour sections with descriptions of what the particular flours are best for (e.g. pizza/bread/pasta). They have a great range of cheeses and cold meats, fresh pasta, coffee, Italian wines and spirits, biscuits, cakes, sweets, antipasto and canned and jarred tomatoes, passatta and marinated everything. They also sell wholesale to caterers and event organisers and have delivery and a catalogue that can be requested from their website, where they also have recipes and events notices, such as wine tastings. On one end of the store there is also a bakery/pizza bar with barista coffee, authentic Italian pizzas and panini and freshly baked bread and pastries at a good price. It's worth checking out just for the bread. I bought a great large sourdough for about $5. Bellissimo.

I think this is the best Indian food I've ever had. Yes indeedy. The service exemplified what service should be all about. Greeted warmly by friendly staff members, all the little necessities were taken care of as one would expect. The service stepped up a notch when we were given complimentary papadoms 'to keep us going' since it was a bit busy (we hadn't actually been waiting that long but it was a lovely (and tasty) touch). It was when we decided to return a dish that was too spicy for our taste, that we really discovered their service excellence. The waitress apologised and we ordered a replacement dish. Neither dish appeared on our bill and the owner also came over and offered us complimentary naan. He saw us out after the meal as well. So friendly, so attentive and very generous. The food was so very delicious and so many dishes to choose from, many varying from the standard range. Full of subtle flavours and spices, with sauces of richness and meat that melted in the mouth. The fluffiest steamed rice I've ever seen and just awesome naan. A good wine list and some great international and local beer, desserts that sounded very tempting and a takeaway home delivery option rounded out the offering. My tastebuds are still tingling and as soon as I can find some more stomach space to fill, I'll be back!

Had the goat curry; Morton bay bugs curry and the beef rendang. Goat sauce was top shelf, although the meat was very fatty. Bugs were very disappointing. Bug had no flavour or seasoning and the sauce bland. Beef rendang sauce also lacked any real flavours, but the meat was high quality and cooked to perfection. Might go again next week to try some more traditional curries. Could be an expensive vernture

The food was beautifully balanced, it wasn't very spicy but was nice. My friend and I both had vegetarian dishes and they were very hearty with many vegetables and good quality sauces. The cheese naan was to die for, very oily but tastes amazing. I might come back here. The food was good but there are plenty of beautiful places in and around semaphore road that are competing with this place. It is the best Nepalese place I have tried in Semaphore so far though.

A friend suggested I try Journey to Everest, and I must say that as a result of their excellent recommendation, I am now a convert to Nepalese food. In my view, it is Indian cuisine's sleeker sister. This restaurant offers not a large or lavish dining area, but one that punches above its weight. The surrounds are functional, and the service is OK, the food however is another story. Nepalese food appears to be less oily and lighter than its Indian counterpart, and that allows you to enjoy the flavour more fully. My favourite on their menu is the Madagascar Duck, a sublime feast of duck legs and a well chosen and cooked medley of vegetables in a curry sauce. No rice needed! Journey to Everest has now become a regular fixture for every journey to Semaphore!
