It was really cool to see all the tailgates and celebration throughout the campus. The spirit was all throughout! When we got to our seats it was easy to find, lots of people to help. We got there earlier than most people so it was empty when we got there. Then it started to fill in. There seemed to be a section off to the side where the students sat. It was awesome to see all the excitement! Food was pretty good, my boyfriend got meatballs in sauce which he liked a lot. I got a steak and cheese which was just ok but good. Prices were reasonable! The stadium itself is really cool too, looks newly remodeled. It was beautiful to see everyone come together to remember Welles and all the other lives lost that day. They gave out bandanas too so everyone could show their support. Taking the train home was pretty easy too, just a short walk away from the stadium. Overall fun experience here!

Saw Boston College take on the University of Miami at Alumni Stadium on a brisk Friday evening…read more Despite long lines managed to grab a beer during halftime, but did not order any food. Quality I spent many Saturdays cheering for the Eagles football team during my college years and it was a blast coming back. For an exciting televised match-up, fans from both teams packed the stadium creating one of the best atmospheres I could remember at Alumni Stadium. However, even on days when the stadium is empty for a dud of a game, it still makes for a fun afternoon. The one caveat is always the weather, which can quickly ruin a good time. Quantity Alumni Stadium has a capacity of around 45,000, but you will hardly ever see it close to that packed. It does not compete with some of the mega stadiums around college football, but it ensures everyone has a good view of the action. Value Even for the bigger games, tickets are not too hard to come by and usually are reasonably priced. It usually is a matter of how well the opposing team travels. Beers and food are overpriced in the stadium, but that is to be expected. Ambiance Alumni Stadium sits on the Boston College Chestnut Hill campus right outside the city of Boston. It is strictly a college stadium and serves a smaller campus population, so does not compare to the mega stadiums for professional teams or many public universities. Its most recent renovations came in 1995, but the stadium has been maintained well and still feels relatively new. Massive screens on the ends make sure you can enjoy the game regardless of where you sit, but most seats keep you close to the field. Proximity of the field to the nearby reservoir does create a breeze, which on already cool days can feel even cooler. Just make sure to dress warm. Crowd The stadium is often empty for Saturday afternoon kickoffs, but for a big game under the lights the place was rocking. Unfortunately the stadium was not ready for the big crowd, and limited bathrooms and concession stands meant lines stretching around the stadium. However, the fans are some of the most laid-back and polite people you will meet at a college football game. Service While Alumni Stadium is a modern facility, it struggles with large crowds. Even with staff working fast and hard, lines quickly form near the concessions areas. The good things are they are adept at getting folks into the stadium quickly and despite the more crowded game, the bathrooms were kept in good shape. Parking The campus has limited parking on an average day, so during football games things get out of hand. Car service companies or public transportation are the better options to get to and from the stadium. Extra Even as a graduate of Boston College with many fond memories, I have no illusion that Alumni Stadium is a great place to see a game. However, it gets the job done and the friendly fans make it a fun atmosphere to enjoy some football.

BUT THIS YEAR THERE WAS NO PHOTOBOOTH OR JERKY GUY. I was so disappointed. We ended up just roaming the venue to take six silly photos in order to maintain our tradition. But the ciders were good, plenty of options, and the food trucks were great. I REALLY hope that the photobooth and jerky guy return next year.

Pour the Core was a fun evening out…read more However unfortunately the venue was too small. Lines were incredibly long. The layout was just strange with the lines for vendors wrapped around. There was 22+ vendors which is a great turnout. Royale staff were there doing security. It just seems like such a strange venue for this. The stairs up and down were a pain. Everyone got plastic cups with two oz pours marked. Probably to keep everyone in check. I'm glad we went but next year we will probably pass.

My husband is a comics fan, so I talked him into attending Boston Comic Con with me…read more We had a great time! He bought 70 comics and looked like a kid in a candy store most of the day. He told me the prices were below what he'd normally see at the stores in their retail locations. We bought tickets day of on Saturday afternoon (for one day only) and there was a bit of a line for that (cash only, be sure to stock up before entering) but the line moved quick enough to not be a huge deal. The costumed attendees inside were pretty cool. There was a guy in a crazy transformers costume that towered above us all. I saw the coolest Dad ever, dressed as batman (in a Dark Night movie quality costume) while pushing a stroller with a baby in it, and holding the hand of a costumed toddler daughter. I didn't have time to take a picture, but said to him in awe, "You're the coolest!". Not breaking character, he gave me a gravel voiced "Thank you" in reply. I plan on returning next year.

3.5 Stars. (for some of the org stuff)…read more I went on Saturday from around 2:00 PM to around 5:00PM. I had a great time. It was a little chaotic, and there was some weirdness with getting the bracelet - like why take the line to buy tickets and mix it with the line for prepaid tickets where you just needed a bracelet - like me. Sort of defeated the purpose of getting the tickets online and in advance I thought. So I get what the other poster is saying. Could be a little better organized. But whatever. Only saw one cash machine on premises and it had a huge line and that was a drag, so walk a block out and there are 10 others. Not a deal breaker or a meaningful inconvenience. The show was pretty cool. There were lots people into it enough to get into costume that it really helped generate the atmosphere I was looking for. Everyone was cool - didn't run into any assholes. Everyone was really open to posing for a pic, chatting a bit and just having a good time. Also today (Sunday) is the costume contest so I am sure the costumes are going to be better today by an order of magnitude - so go if you can! I highly recommend it. I picked up around $70 worth of comic books. Two complete sets that look awesome. I have seen them go for more online so that was cool too. There were some gaming tables and impromptu gathering of people in complimentary costumes taking pictures and having fun. I wore a Greatest American Hero shirt. As far as I saw was the only one and got some great feedback for being "Old School". Maybe next year I will go all out with the "magic jammies" costume :-) Also strolled over to Lucky's after and there was a totally cool post day one party going on. Just dropped into it by chance (ba-dum-tshhh), but of course Comic Con folks would want to party at Lucky's. :-) Got a free grab-bag with comix and other stuff. Had a few drinks and chatted up the other goers. Some great costumes there as well. All in all was a really great time. Is this Boston's first year? I have not been before. Looking forward to going next year!

I've been to 3 Shecky's Girls' Night Outs and 2 Style Fixx. In the past, I've felt that Shecky's…read morehad a better goodie bag but Style Fixx threw a better event. Well, last week's Style Fixx swung me fully onto its side! The bag - which was a non-shoulder bag (DEFINITELY needs to be a shoulder bag - luckily I won one!) was stuffed with great goodies. I could not believe the stuff I got! I don't know why anyone would pay for the non-goodie bag ticket. We paid only $15 each (2-for-1) and it was more than worth it! The big plus for Style Fixx is food! They had free samples of sushi (which I don't eat), Upper Crust pizza & some spinach thing (soo tasty), desserts from Finale and some other brownie place and Cabot Cheese!! YUM. We each got 5 drinks - I had 2 glasses of Moscato from Barefoot and 1 martini-style drink that was not strong but good. I didn't end up buying anything, but I found great gifts for my bridal shower hostesses (which we will be ordering) and potentially groomsmen gifts! There were less vendors than previous events, which was nice as it wasn't so crowded. Always a great time!

Though I only have two years of experience, I can see that this year was an improvement over last year...better gifts in the schwag bags, quick and smooth check-in, more vendors, higher-end brands and plenty of choices for drinks. Thought it would be nice to see some local alcohol brands in sponsorship spots, I can see the mass appeal of Miller's version of Blue Moon and Budlight Lime. I just don't drink them myself. This year's five-star purchase came in the form of a sweet pair of Marc Jacobs' sunglasses! I'd been searching for a new pair of shades with summer just around the corner, and the pair I found here were absolutely perfect and about half the price I would have found them at a retail store. SCORE. Looking forward to next year!

Original Six NHL teams competed in this building when it was the home of the Bruins (1924-28), the Boston Celtics played here in their early days (1946-55), and a veritable who's who of eastern college hockey teams have called the old barn home. The old style entry doors and working heat registers on the walls attest to the age of this hockey haven. This venerable 113-year old building (it opened April 10, 1910) screams hockey history and is not to be missed by any true sports fan.

I always have a great time at SoJust events…read more The group is extremely welcoming and goes out of their way to make sure newcomers feel involved. After attending 3 SoJust events, you become a "SoJust Star", which means you wear a "change agent" badge to SoJust events and help work the room to make sure everyone feels welcome. The result is a group that feels like the antithesis of a click. Last night, I attending Connecting for Justice Open House and had some great conversations with other attendees. At the open house (hosted at the ground floor of Lir) they have a job board with listings that attendees can take home and a section to leave literature for others to take about events your hosting. I left literature on Walk MS, MS Challenge Walk, and the MS stairclimb at the John Hancock center. Quite a few people asked me about the events and seemed genuinely interested in attending. In addition to the normal name badges at networking events, they also provide "I'm looking for" and "Ask me about" badges that you can fill out. The badges help add to conversation throughout the night. And just in case you still are worried about meeting people, they have a bingo sheet filled with descriptions like "looking to volunteer". "Likes karaoke", "Is a radical", etc. You can walk up to a group and start a conversation by asking what description you can write their name down for on the bingo sheet. Prizes are even given to everyone who fills out the whole bingo sheet. (I happily walked away from the event with a free pass to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum as my prize for completing the bingo sheet.) One of SoJust's slogans is "If you think SoJust is for you, it is!" They're right.

According to its website, the Boston Veg Food Fest has been running for 23 years. I attended the…read morefestival for the first time in October. Oddly enough, there wasn't much online about what to expect here. The fest was held at Gillette Stadium and mostly featured commercial vendors (versus food vendors). While the indoor venue shielded festival goers from the cold, it made for really close quarters. The festival was jam packed from the moment we stepped in the door. That's the major drawback here. This venue is too small to hold such a widely attended event. I need room to breathe! The Veg Fest in Las Vegas mostly revolves around the food, so I was a little disappointed that there weren't more food vendors here. Don't get me wrong, there was Taco Party, Belmont Vegetarian Restaurant and Tofu Hut from Worcester, and 2 dessert vendors. The line for a world famous donut vendor was allegedly hours long - I skipped waiting in that line and got a cookie sandwich from the alternative dessert vendor with no line. Since there's so many commercial vendors there were plenty of freebies and samples to go around. I'll definitely come back next year, although I hope Veg Fest finds a larger venue. (Thanks to Yelp I was given a VIP pass.) The digital games showcase was on the 2nd floor this year - which greatly improved cell phone service. (Last year, my phone died searching for signal & I couldn't even check in on Yelp but there were none of those issues this year.) My favorite digital game of the show was called "That Rock Paper Scissors Game". The 1st floor table top showcase was great too! My favorite game there was called "Dolly's Bookworm". It was a fun game created by an 11 year old girl that wanted a game that involved books. (Kinda like guess who but with book titles instead of people.) I went to 2 panels - one of player agency & game design and one on improv. Both presenters were great. Boston Festival of Indie Games has just become a "must attend" event on my yearly calendar.

You're dealing with a smaller venue mostly at MIT's Student Center and the focus is mainly on Indie Games. I was expecting a smaller version of what I witnessed at PAX East with various digital, board and card games. That's exactly what I got. The BFIG originally was focused on games in the New England area but they had expanded their range this year which I think worked well. I know there were a couple of games there from west coast developers. I'm not complaining though, I was stoked to try and play new games. I don't really care where they come from. Being a gamer of the digital variety they setup most of those games in the ski rink area. It was dimly lit and I think at some point a couple of the developers lost power. But I was quite happy discovering some new apps and games that I'll definitely keep an eye out for. It's growing every year I fear they'll soon outgrow their MIT base of operations. Of course though because it's held at MIT admission is free. Which is the big thing they've got going that their other convention counterparts lack. I wish I was able to check this out more. 12 hours is much too short for any convention but it was fun. Also thank god for food trucks. Kudos to all the volunteers, staff and games that made this happen.
