The first attraction actually has a Fall in it and a bridge over water you're walking over. I think that's so cool. I actually love the detail of this. The unstable like bridge that you know is table. So cool to me. The second attraction had a floating ghost and the mansion stairwell. Telling a quick story. I enjoyed this too. Not bad to go through solo. I had fun. And the final, 3rd attraction shad an alien controlling another dead alien of some sort I couldn't stop laughing at. Oh Nightmare's Gate, How I wanted to like you. You had SO MUCH PROMISE!!! I'm angry with you, I really am! I traveled out to see you after visiting 2 other haunts this evening, I pulled up into your parking lot (Mud pit, but you're not to blame for the wretched weather), bought my $20 ticket - we'll talk more about that later, and got introduced to BUBBLES. Bubbles was awesome. He set the tone for what we, (My friends and myself) thought was going to be an AWESOME haunt. He got our names and let us in through the gate.. We wandered down the sewer tunnel, saw the empty boo holes and I began to scratch my head. We traversed the empty hallways-clearly meant to be manned by SOMEONE, but no one was there. We got to the bridge, walked across it to the half collapsed boat, and still no scares. Great atmosphere, but no scare. We got to the dark room, which was fun, finding multi-pathways through was unique, but still NOTHING. At this point, I was beginning to wonder just what was going on. We finally came up into the Doctor's office and BAM! We encountered our first 2 actors. They were lazing about on a gurney, she with her head in his lap, it looked like we interrupted them in a make out session. The young man even piped up and said "Oh, Sorry, we're on break." I answered - "While on set?" I'm sorry, I'm a haunt veteran of over 15 years, that's not acceptable. An actor barged out onto the scene trying to redirect in some way, but that was pretty much all I focused on. These two teens so casual in their posture, not having any care that people PAID for their experience. We made our way to the elevator, and the "Rude" clown was quite amusing, but here we encountered our 2nd issue: A girl in a dress, I understand now her name was Sadira, tottered into the elevator using her Cellphone as a light, trying to see if we were staff or if we were patrons. When I saw the cellphone, I was pissed off. The 2 guys in the fleurescent shirts, who work in the haunt, I'm guessing, just shook their heads and apologized. "Unacceptable" I muttered and we continued on. Scares? None. Interaction? Bubbles and the Joke telling clown girl were awesome. but if your cast, even at minimal can't perform, why keep the house open? I HATE that I have to low vote a haunt. Haunting is -my thing-, but this was such an underwhelming experience that You have to know about it. Yes, we told bubbles and the other guy outside about it, They apologized profusely. Here we'd paid $20 a head to see this experience, and I felt that we didn't get ANYWHERE near our money's worth. We had 'actors' that wanted to play grab ass with each other (And trust me, I understand that it happens) and not care that there were people in the maze. Lol. So this is my first time ever going INSIDE a haunted house. Now I am the type where I always hype myself up and then get to the door and change my mind well not last night. Originally I was supposed to sit in the parking lot while my daughter and my husband went inside. Well at the last minute that changed and it was an all out family affair. Now this is a shared location with the bowling alley. We got there Sunday night around 8:15. There was little to no wait time. Although we did have to step outside the line to purchase additional tickets. Now the scares started outside well for me lol. There was a crazy looking nurse, some pinhead man and this lady that was riding around on a scooter- she scared the crap out of me because she just pops up out of no where and you feel something run against your leg and once you look down she jumps up. Whew!!! The theme is set up as a hospital or should I say mental hospital. My plan was to keep my head down and hold on to my husband and just walk through. Didn't happen I was holding on to mother in law we were both so scared we literally tackled each other and seemed as if we were just running in a circle. I had to literally keep saying its only fake they cant touch me!!!!!! I was happy to make it out alive. All in all it was a great experience and my kids loved it. I dont think I'd ever go back in cause I just can't do this scary s**t. I do want to add they did a good job with there props and they even accommodated my brother in law who is in a wheel chair. They made sure to keep ahead of him and let everyone know he was coming through so they'll have enough time to move certain items around and still scare us along the way. read more

October 31, 2018 For the amount of money paid to go see the one house attraction, it was not worth it. As someone who went to Netherworld two years ago and Paranoia last year, I found myself wanting to try another one of the "top" rated haunted houses in Atlanta on Halloween night. The only thing scary for this one house attraction was the price. Either the people who rated it "top" were downright scaredy cats, influenced by the prior anticipation, and had their eyes closed the whole time or were simply new at the haunted house scene. The raving reviews really left me feeling at the end as though I paid $13 more for an attraction worth only $15. Please note that I am the type of person that almost cried and was whimpering from fear at Netherworld so I assure you, I am not the "nerves of steel" type. My friend group and I arrived 20 minutes after they opened at 8:00pm to ensure we had minimum issues with parking and no trouble with the massive lines you typically see at highly rated attractions. We decided to get our tickets online to avoid wasting any time upon arrival. The line was decent enough with an approximately 15 - 20 minute wait with the actors attempting to scare you along the way. As we waited in line, to our right we could see a small inflatable jousting ring that cost $5 for participation. As you might've guessed, not many people were interested. At some point, one of the actors attempted to convince those in line that we could ONLY go into the house individually, which certainly unnerved most people.. including myself. When we finally made it to the front, to our relief, we discovered that we could go in as a group. The employee scanned our online tickets and we were given rules of what not to do inside. The most important of which was "if you touch the actors, they will touch you". Inside, I found myself at the back of the group, so I typically had a few actors trailing behind me waiting for the perfect opportunity for a jump scare. To not spoil the house itself, I will break down the likes and dislikes behind my rating: Dislikes: 1. The lag between one "scare", or actor screaming/staring in your face, to the next was long enough to negate the scary effect. This may be due to lack of staff at that time of the night or perhaps my sheer position at the back of the group. 2. The theme was a mental hospital. But the amount of crazy in there was surreal. Every actor, even down the doctors, portrayed crazy. I couldn't help but ask where were the patients who were scared of being tortured? Or the doctors who wanted out but were too scared themselves? Seeing a ton of crazy and nothing more or less made me numb to the acting. 3. Majority of the props were stationary. I'm not an expert, but props make beautiful jump scares if done right, heck, or done at all. The one mobile prop they used is definitely a testament to that. 4. Lighting and smoke. The blueish lighting used in the majority of the house to portray the "nightmarish" effect was well placed as was the times they used yellow/red in the mental hospital rooms. However, rarely did we find ourselves in near pitch black darkness. Everything could be seen with the naked eye. From the actor coming your way and trying to maneuver between props as to not be seen to the other group who went before you and somehow got lost. Smoke was also practically nonexistent inside, so the atmosphere felt like the inside of any other building, not that of a dank and moldy mental hospital. 5. One house attraction for $28? One would've been better off paying a few bucks more to go see three. Likes: 1. The actors never broke the act. Crazy as they may have all been, they certainly stuck to it. 2. Line wasn't too bad. I have experienced 1+ hour long waits to get into the attraction. Admittedly, those waits were worth it. Overall: Certainly look elsewhere if this is not your first time going to a haunted house. The attraction has promise but the lack of important details that make one great and for the price you pay is not worth it. Had I did it all over again, I would've either gone to Paranoia or Fright Fest. Unfortunately, Netherworld was too far. read more

September 29th, 2017 Atlanta area Haunted House Excursion My husband & I normally go to Netherworld every October, but we decided to hit as many haunted houses in the Atlanta area as we could in a night. So Friday, September 29th at 2 pm we left Birmingham headed to the Atlanta area. In this order, we went to Netherworld, Paranoia, Folklore, Nightmare's Gate, and Haunted Chicken House. I am going to give a brief review of each of the haunts that we visited so that anyone else that may be interested in checking them out will have an idea if they are worth visiting. I am also including the haunted houses we visited in central Alabama to give a list of how each haunt ranked in comparison to all the others we visited this season. Here is our favorite haunted houses in order: 1) Netherworld 2) Nightmare's Gate 3) Atrox 4) Paranoia 5) Hellbilly Hollow 6) Nightmare 3008 7) Warehouse 31 8) Hollis Haunted Chicken House 9) Insanitarium 10) Sloss Furnace 11) Mountain Creek Trail of Fear 12) Folklore (only BAD haunt we went to) 2) Nightmare's Gate- "Best Experience" (9 out of 10) Total time on site 32 minutes This was the fourth haunt we arrived at and after Folklore, we were hoping for a better experience. As we pulled into the parking lot we were worried because of how small it was. However, that worry quickly went away as we were almost immediately greeted by monsters in the parking lot. We went to buy tickets and were saddened to find out they didn't have any shirts out for us to buy (Our goal was to buy shirts from every haunt we enjoyed). As we were buying our tickets an evil jack o lantern headed guy was eyeing us which freaked me out, but my husband enjoyed it. We went to take some pics in front of the sign and another monster wanted in on the pic. We then went to the gate and while waiting to go in my husband got some gum out and 2 monsters walked up with their hands out, but after giving them the gum they acted like they didn't know what to do with it. And of course all the while this is going on the evil jack o lantern guy is still messing with me. I say all that to say...these guys were great. It was obvious that to them this isn't a job, but a craft. They were all dedicated to being creepy, scary, funny, etc. This is by far the best parking lot experience we have ever had at any haunted house (including Netherworld). As we were leaving the haunt some of the monsters followed us to our car and the jack o lantern guy must have watched what car we got into because as we tried to leave he blocked our way and kicked up dirt like he wanted to play chicken with us. This single actor was the highlight of the night and was not only the MVP of Nightmare's Gate but the MVP of the whole night. There was only one haunt here and it was hospital break. As soon as we walked in the theme was obvious, we were greeted by a psychotic patient who really wanted to be our friend...she played her role so well it truly felt like we were in a psych ward. We then entered the hospital through a sewer tunnel...(which was very well done, it really looked and felt like a real tunnel.) The actors inside were all very good, the costumes & makeup were good. The setup/props were good, the number of actors in each section was good. We also liked that once we left the building some of the haunt extended outside. We never felt like there was a lack of actors in any part of the haunt and even though there is only one haunt here the one they have is very well done and lasted 25 minutes. read more

Atlanta haunts are killing it this year and Douglasville has some serious game. Number 3 on our 2018 haunt tour was Nightmares Gate. First off check the address on the website. They've moved since last year but Waze will take you to the old location. Nightmare's Gate looks small from the outside but it's actually pretty large. Outside in line we were met by a couple of zombies (Mohawk and Mall Cop) these guys are hilarious. They kept the wait in line entertaining. This house has a lot of actors, all high energy and committed to their characters. Fair Warning, they do get extremely close so beware if you have any personal bubble issues. The haunt was a lot of fun and you should definitely check it out. Side note: they moved to this location in July. It's impressive that they were able to pull together a show of this quality in that amount of time. read more

This Halloween queen had a blast. I arrived with my husband and we made our way to the Ticket stand. I had a BOGO coupon and the price was reasonable. We waited on our friends to arrive and I was thrilled to find out how customers entered the 'Brasky State Prison'. After our friends arrived we got in line and an undead Prison guard yelled to one of his inmates that supper was coming soon. He then opened up the entrance way and let us in. Inside we were guided by actor zombies who led the way without really "leading the way.'" They fit into every room without interrupting the set up. One particular actor/guide, who was always talking about being hungry, stayed in perfect character and scaled the walls of the "prison". We were so impressed with his acting and athletic ability. Within my group of friends I was crowned the person who leads us through haunted houses. This was the first haunted attraction that had fun confusing me; I got us lost and my BEST FRIEND yelled, "you are a shitty leader". One of the zombies admitted to confusing me and led us in the right direction. He then yelled, "who is the shitty leader now." Hahahaha. So much fun. These actors listened to what we were saying and screaming about and played off of it. I will not ruin this for all of you Haunted House attendees but there are a lot of tricks and gags they'll catch you off guard. Expect to scream, my throat hurts, laugh from nervousness, and have a great time. Always have someone in your group who is a real wimp so you can laugh at/with them. WORTH the drive if you are ITP or OTP North. Visit was on a Thursday night. read more

First mistake, but it would've been decent if they weren't robbing people and charging to skip the line when u get in you run into groups of 10+ people, with very young kids holding up the line, holding up the scares and making it very non-enjoyable! best haunted attraction i've been to in years. planned Halloween around Nightmare's Gate and it was a great decision. walked in and bought tickets within the first 10 minutes of us being there. staff was nice, actors were great and well dedicated to their rolls. the set designs and the labyrinth style walk-thru was truly the highlight. $35 a person for 2 attractions that take around 20 minutes a piece. head and shoulders over the competition in the area. will be back again. read more

Well, I just rolled in from "Nightmare's Gate" and my friends and I had an absolute blast! I'm not sure the experience Katie F. had, but it must have been different than the one I experienced. I loved the theme and the commitment of the actors, it was really fun! And I do not work there either! This haunt is proof that concept and innovation can trump astronomical budgets. I also had a few people with me who had really never been to haunted houses before and they were mortified and laughing almost simultaneously. I would say don't trust the negative reviews. Went with a group of six on Saturday night. They only allowed small groups to enter at a time. The wench you checks you in does a great job staying in character as she taunts reaction from the spectators. Nice small venue where the ghouls keep on edge Some good step ups and rooms to keep you guessing 'what next' We've been to netherworld several times. Some friends and I decided it was time to give Netherworld a rest (you can only reconfigure sets so many times before it gets really, really old) and try something new. This place was fantastic: nominal line, great characters, nice tension buildup, and clever pauses between scares to get the ol' guard down. There were several parts where I was very disoriented, and that's a good thing (I pay good money for this sort of thing). I did get a bump on the noggin trying to get into the crawlspace, but that's okay. One could really tell these guys and gals love what they do, and the energy they've put into this place was heartwarming. read more

Ok, this is not worth 20 bucks, and 15 mins of our time. Maybe if it was cheaper. I know its the its first yr., I get it, but 20 BUCKS, GET REAL. I mean come on, Netherworld is the number one haunt for 14 yrs. and they are $22 for one or 27 for both haunts. All in all some of the makeup was cool, but its to dark to see alot of it. Good luck to Nightmares Gate. They are gonna need it, so I'll give them two stars since it is its first yr. But if you make it to next yr. lower the price and get better actors. p.s you can tell the ones that gave it high scores must work there or know someone who does. read more

We had a great time! The actors did a great job. The maze hallway totally freaked me out. Seemed to be a little understaffed but overall was very pleased with our experience. Having been to Netherworld, the bar was was set pretty high but if you live on the West Side of town this is a "horrific" alternative. We arrived at Nightmare's Gate this past Saturday night. The parking lot was filled with cars, but there were no patrons. It must have been the employees cars there. We really should have turned around and left at that point. We went to the haunted house that was here last year, and loved it. Too bad those people aren't doing it anymore. It is now apparently under new ownership and completely different in every way. We went in and had our photo taken. Someone said to look on their website, but they have nothing on there except outdated information. It says videos coming July 2, 2010 and it is now October. Where the old haunted house was smart and cool, it is now dumb and redneck. Where it was funny and scary, it is now insulting and childish. It had jokes about rape and incest, and truthfully It wasn't scary or funny. It was appalling. When did haunted houses turn into this? The makeup and decor looked like it all came off of the free page of craigslist. If this is what haunted houses are coming to be, count me out. The lady at the ticket booth pointed out quickly that it was a different business now. What a waste. The old one was actually good. We spent 80.00 for 20 minutes of bad acting and poor showmanship.
