Not only is Nova a professional photographer, she has the PATIENCE and understanding for toddlers, a very motherly gentle side that she uses to take the best pictures with my son. She was NEVER irritated or upset when my son and believe me my son is really rascal at times! My son didn't follow directions and was shy at first which really scared me because I knew this would happen but instead Nova took the time out and walked and talked with him and played with his figurine cars with him practice taking photos with his Toy cars and after that it was NO PROBLEM! He absolutely followed directions after that!!! We could not have been more happier with her work! Our first professional photography ever in our family was of my second child's maternity shoot at Kapiolani Park January 2017. Professional quality on her own printed machine at home with her own paper. Beautiful views and she takes the time to modify and "clean up" the photos that I wanted. On a side note: Not only does Nova take your pictures for you, she sends friendly and gentle reminders of your shoot the day before and also reminds you and your family what to bring such as water, snack for the little ones. When the weather was not permitting she would ask if you would like to reschedule for the week after or a have it at her studio- which was what happened in our situation. Very flexible with time to meet our needs. But above all Nova had maternity portraits within a couple days both printed portraits and saved on a USB for me ready to print! Beautiful work! Our second photo shoot was our first family portraits March 2017. And let me tell you she is AMAZING with newborns! I had a fussy newborn daughter and a hyper toddler son, I mean she is like the children's whisperer! She handled it very well! Our portraits came out spectacular!!! She has professional lighting, multiple back drops, floor designs, an area for changing, an area for breast feeding, I mean this was STRESS FREE for me especially! This time we ordered more pictures and it also came with a USB enclosed with my pictures!! She was able to capture some AWESOME sibling portraits of my two kids and I'm beyond happy with her performance and professional work!! My parents were so pleased about their gifts of their grandchildren! My husband is not a smiling person at all, but for these shoots it was something about Nova that made you want to smile and my husbands smile was very natural! I have already booked her for my daughter's first year cake smash in December 2017. And I also hired her for my daughter's first birthday in February 2018 to photograph the memorable moments at the party. Here's a breakdown of my experience: The consult: Emily reached out to schedule a consult call shortly after I submitted my inquiry. The consult call was informative and Emily answered all questions that I had. She was very personable and easy to talk to from the get go. And she really set the tone that this would be a very empowering experience for myself. Following the consult, Emily sent over a questionnaire to be completed prior to the shoot. I loved that the questionnaire gauged the level spicy I was comfortable with, asked about what I love about my body, and even about the things I wasn't fond of. The day of the shoot: call time was at 9 AM. I was greatly warmly and already loved the vibes Emily had set. Hair and makeup was done by Yana, who was as amazing as Emily. MK Boudoir also has a client closet that was very size inclusive! So if you're a plus size girly like myself, I promise you there's something in there for you before starting the shoot, I was given a mini modeling lesson. I was quite anxious going into it because I had never been the most confident girly. But Emily gave me a pep talk reminding me that this was going to be an empowering experience. Once we got the ball rolling, the anxiety went away almost instantly. She would hype me up throughout the shoot and just overall made it such a fun, healing experience. As someone who's struggled with body dysmorphia and an eating disorder, this experience taught me a lesson about self-love, acceptance, and empowerment. Both sides of the family met in Oahu for vacation, and months prior I suggested that we should hire a professional photographer so we could 1) remember the occasion, and 2) have some updated photos of the family as we have our newest addition: our son Xavier. After doing my required Yelp searching, I narrowed it down to 4 photographers who specialize in children's photography. Though Keao was the priciest of the 4, I chose her because she didn't put a time limit on her session. I thought this was key because my son was only 7 months and not only was I unsure how he would handle the time difference, but he's just fidgety and unpredictable at this age! Communication was really easy via email and all my questions were answered. She also provided good tips on styling, which was useful as there would be 8 of us and we wanted to have some sort of cohesiveness. The session itself went smoothly, even though Xavier fell asleep about 20 minutes in! We still took advantage and had her photograph all the possible family combinations while he took a nap. Looking at the photos, you can't even tell that Xavier was cranky, haha. Also, I felt as if she captured us how we really are... it's hard to explain. Looking at a photo of me and my sister-in-law being silly, it just made me think, "OMG this is us!!"
