Nil - a great budget restaurant. The Sudanese place with its amazing peanut sauce. I love peanut evertything so this place makes me happy. Also, I love halumi and falafel. The Sudanese falafel has a nice and unique taste to it. I have read that one has to try the fried bananas, which comes with a little bit of salad on the side and again the great peanut sauce. One can choose to have it served on a plate or in a bread (peta type bread). Location: It is very small. It has 2-3 outside tables with benches, two high tables with two chairs each and one little table in a corner where 2-4 people can sit. The prices: Unbeatable. I think there is nothing more than 7 EUR on the menu. One person could therefore eat comfortably for 10 EUR (without a drink). I noticed they have lamb and veal on the menu and will have to try it the next time. For those who cringe when thinking about eating veal or lamb (or any other meat)---don´t dispare they have a lot of vegetarian options. I had the falafel and hallumi sandwich and it was delicious. Drinks: They have all kinds of drinks and even "Sudanese" drinks but no alcoholic beverages. It is afterall not truly a comfortable sitdown restaurant. Peanut sauce: I have noticed that one can buy the peanut sauce to go. It believe they sold it at 200g for less than 3 EUR. All in all...a great budget place and fun to try different things! Sudenese food on a quiet street in Berlin. I came here on recommendation from my cousin because of the peanut sauce. I personally wasn't a fan of the sauce, but to be fair, I usually don't like peanut butter on much else except for bread and jelly. I guess this is another case of the rich getting richer. Finding places with several reviews on yelp is difficult for Berlin, but everyone was right on in their praise for Nil. I love the soft-spoken guy running this tiny joint. And the food he makes is phenomenal. A huge plate of vegetarian Sudanese delicacies covered in peanut sauce. Ohhh yes. Oh Nil, how I love you. A Sudanese falafel chain in Berlin, the peanut sauce is the winner + anyone who gets a chance to eat here. We usually can't resist the standard order of Tamiya ( Falafel sudanesische Art - 3 euro) but last night I was hungry enough for the fried bananas (2 euro) too. Hot damn. In love. They also come with the peanut sauce, garlic sauce and a little lettuce. There was so much I saved some for lunch today and fell even deeper in lust for a food group. I'm upgrading my rating of Nil Imbiss. Last time I went, I found the lamb a bit tough. I don't know how it is now, but I ordered a range of vegetarian dishes and found the food to be really great across the board. I had the Vegan Platter, which included falafel, baba ganoush, kidney beans, salad, and fried cassava with that wonderful peanut sauce. Super, super tasty, and unbelievably cheap. A huge platter that made me very full only cost 4.50 Euro. They do fry things like the falafel or the lentil fritters, but it doesn't taste greasy or feel heavy in your stomach. Also, I think that on the whole, this is pretty healthy food. I wish they would improve on the bread that they serve. It is a non-descript ghostly white piece of pita bread. Hunger stroke before work and I had to grab something good and tasty to keep me going... as i've passed by this place and always heard great stuff about it - this time I went in. So this place is very humble yet feels oriental - i'd start by saying that if the guy who prepared my food wasn't so apathic they would get five stars. I took the Chicken im brot without Aswad [home-made eggplant paste, I don't eat eggplants but you should give it a try] and no matter what - do NOT give up on the peanut sauce, this is what makes all the difference!!!!! so yummy the pita bread they make falls apart easily so prepare napkins in advance. This place is tiny- during the high tourist season don't expect to find a seat as it is just a few steps from a hostel on the same street. The food is as cheap as it gets in Berlin (2 euro for a basic falafel sandwich) and it is made fresh. The soups are also delicious. read more

Went in here to get a quick dinner on a weeknight and ordered the Nil chicken. Fried veggies, chicken, some kind of hummus/tahini sauce based thing in bread, so it was much to my liking. Only downside was that the veggies were really oily so it didn't settle too well with my stomach but that's a risk you take. The sandwich I got was 5€, which to me didn't seem worth it for some chicken with fried veggies. I thought it was pretty good food, but I don't think I would go out of my way to come back since you can get something similar for at least 1-2€ less in the same area. read more

Taste-wise, it was decent! The only problem is that there's a bit too much sauce in their wraps. Mine proceeded to explode on me a few minutes after I started eating, spraying peanut sauce all over my hands and onto the table. I tried to salvage the situation with the tiny napkin that I had received, but I was unsuccessful. Simple goodness. Go there, get whatever . . they add a touch of a sort of peanut sauce that kicks up falafels and other dishes up a knotch. It's why you should go to Nil. Go there because if you want a falafel that's better than the rest of Berlin, go to Nil. It's cheap and really good. Amazing food, cheap prices and friendly service. The guy took our order then started cooking the chicken right in front of us. After the meal he told us to wait a few minutes and he wouldn't give us a freshly baked dessert; this fried dough ball with icing sugar on top. The peanut sauce is to die for. I was a little disappointed that it's not really a vegetarian restaurant, just a place that offers some vegetarian items. I've never had Sudanese food, so I can't speak to the authenticity, but it was quite good, nonetheless. I ordered something similar to a falafel-in-pita sandwich with halloumi (cheese). Toller Imbiss, bei dem die Wahl für mich immer wieder auf einen der leckeren gemischten Teller fällt warum nur für einen der Snacks entscheiden? Wer mal etwas anderes ausprobieren möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Ganz besonders die Erdnusssoße ist ein Traum. Wenn man zu Stoßzeiten kommt, muss man leider längere Wartezeiten in Kauf nehmen, dafür wird alles frisch vor den eigenen Augen zubereitet. ahhthe joys of peanut sauce. people really love this place solely for that reason, it seems. i find the popular 'nil chicken' to be average at best, the chicken itself is a bit rubbery and honestly it's the Aswad aubergine salad/paste which is the hidden gem of this place. i prefer it in the Fohl (mashed beans) sandwich, which also has feta cheese. i find the taste combination a lot more pleasing in the Fohl sandwich than the others, especially the Tamiya (falafel) which is extremely bland. i wasn't going here much until i tried the Fohl, now i'm a regular. watch your clothes, these sandwiches are messy! read more
